I use sixt any time i rent a car abroad. They are upfront with their prices and i never catch any hidden fees. When renting in Romania, if you're from the US or Canada, make sure to get an international driver permit from AAA, as it is REQUIRED. This isn't a sixt rule, but a country rule. There was a number on the door when we arrived that we could call and they let us know they were picking our car up. Paperwork was straightforward. We got a lower tier of insurance, I always recommend insurance when renting a car. Raul was available to message throughout our rental if we ever had any questions.

We came in with our own car insurance and a reservation from a "wholesaler," this was their words, so they tried to step up the pressure for us to consider their own insurance. (We made a reservation through Kayak.com.) At first, they wanted a 20K Euro deposit on the car, but after we refused, they suddenly were able to get a manager on the phone to reduce it to 6K Euro. (This is despite the fact that our paperwork said 750 Euro.) We've rented from Sixt in many other countries and this was by far the largest deposit we've been asked to put down. Other than the sales pressure, we found the car to be in good condition and had no trouble in this regard. We did make sure to examine the car thoroughly. The young man helping us with the inspection was very nice and helpful, but we'd be reluctant to rent from them again based on the initial interaction. It did take 2 business days for the deposit to clear which was good.

Even though we purchased a Total Insurance when we booked the car, the Sixt clerk claimed that we also need to pay for a standard insurance. The option was to leave a deposit for the whole value of the car, therefore we had no choice but to pay.
