Charlottetown is fairly easy to navigate as it's a small city. Just remember the primary streets: University/Queen/St Peters to going north/south and Belvedere/Grafton/Euston for east/west. The biggest change from my last visit was the construction of all the roundabouts. While they can technically save you time on waiting for traffic lights, they can be a bit repetitive when you have to go through 5 in a row to leave via St Peters Rd.

Thé service regarding pickup was bad. They said they would close at 6 on my agreement. When they called me they said they were closing at 4 pm. A huge difference for s traveler. I was bounced from kayak to beers to change the pickup time. Hertz didn’t think it was their problem. So I went back and forth. Finding the number to corset hertz was difficult and took a half hour. When I got through they said I should context the pick up location. That’s when I was told that they would be closing at 4. which high was false. I had to pick up my car two hours earlier than I planned because of that misinformation. I felt it was handled very badly and was a stressful experience. It had an impact on the time I decided to head to the airport which hindered my plans with my friends. All in all I wouldn’t do it again

Be warned. When they say taxes and fees included. They by NO means mean all taxes and fees. Read the fine print ladies and gents. When I arrived to pick up the car we were informed of MANY extra charges. If you want an extra driver it is an extra 25-35$ per PER DAY. If you want full insurance coverage it is an extra 20-35$ a day PER DRIVER. If you are under 25 it is and extra 25-35$ a day PER DRIVER. When we arrived .to pick up the rental csr, I was informed that I would be unable to actually rent the car unless I rebooked it under a credit card with the main drivers name. I intended to be the sole driver, and do not have a credit card under my name. We had to completely rearrange our trip so that the person with the credit card was the main driver of the csr. Once that was all re arranged, we were invoiced almost 400$ for a car rental that we had booked for around 85$ online . Pretty ridiculous. I'm sure there are lots of details I have left out, feel frree to ask

Everything was great except for customer service beforehand. Two voicemails to change arrival time were completely ignored. AVIS 1-800 disconnected my calls and could not change my arrival time. Luckily, when we arrived a car was available, an upgrade, and service at the desk was excellent.

Pick up was very easy. We ordered the “mystery car” to save money since any type of of vehicle would work for us. When we got to the desk they had enough cars to give us a choice and we took a hybrid which got great gas mileage and only had to fill up once after a week of driving all over the island.

Pros:

The young man who worked for Avis but was covering for Budget at the Charlottetown airport was exceptional. Friendly, kind and understanding. He helped me when we took our car in to trade and was so nice to my entire group. Quick drop off when we returned the vehicle.

Cons:

Our Jeep Cherokee had mechanical problems so we lost a day because we had to turn back from a day trip to exchange the vehicle.

They were great to deal with, and I ended up with a very nice upgrade. And no hard upsales like some places...which I really value.

Cons:

The only issue I have is that the University Ave location closed at 6:00pm, and my flight was late so I needed to wait a day to get car. They should be open much later in the summer tourist season at least.

Even after a confirmation call two days prior to my trip, the kayak reps assured me that I was renting from the airport when in fact it was downtown Charlottetown. This caused me to have both a financial and time delay in getting to my destination.
