The car rental place I picked my car up from took 20 minutes to see me, 15 minutes to process and it took 25 minutes for my car to o be ready. Total time to get my car was 1 hour. Nice staff but extremely inefficient. Why not have the card ready when clients come in.

I was very upset with the rental agency. My husband went to go pick-up the car. First it was the wrong place. So they sent a car to pick him up and take him to the right place. Then upon arrival at the other location, they tell my husband that they need to first have him get in touch with ICBC to show his driving records before they can rent him the car? I have NEVER come across this once in all the car rentals I’ve had over the years. So after he proves to them that he’s a good driver, then they take a $1,000 deposit? We only had the vehicle for 5 days? Usually at other rental agencies the deposit has been no more than around $300-$500 max. So I think there was some issues there as well. We finally got the car. In all fairness the car itself was great. We got a Toyota Corolla. Very clean and it was great on the trip. Very comfortable and great on gas. The one thing I’ll say is this, they tried to make things better, but when you have a child and you’re ready to go and all you want is to get the car and get going, to have a delay for over an hour is not good. Things aren’t being done on the scale of a larger car rental agency and it’s very obvious. They need to be more organized and the fact that they don’t mention the ICBC check on their website makes me think they don’t want the customer to know about it, since it would result in going elsewhere On a scale of 1-10, the car itself was a 10 the experience was a 2 . I will take my business elsewhere next time.

The location is very convenient and I appreciated being able to leave the car in their parking lot to pick up after our dinner and show; it saved me the hassle of having to find a parking spot and paying for it. We were also given an upgrade from compact to an SUV. I’m indifferent about this upgrade as I purposely chose a compact size so it would be easier to park. However, I recognize that we were give a hybrid SUV with many features and the car was nice to drive. I’m sure drivers with better parking skills would appreciate this upgrade if they were given the option.

I accidentally selected the wrong dates and I cannot even reschedule. So my whole money was wasted. And I was not around to even use it. Terrible customer service. Don't recommend. Would go for a more flexible option. If this is what you get for just booking, I don't even want to know what the service is like. Went with a cheaper and flexible option

The car itself was actually really good. The reason I rated my experience so low was solely based on the guy working the counter when I picked it up. Not only was he nowhere to be seen for a good 20 minutes (likely more as the people before me had already been waiting a while when I got there), but he was condescending and snarky anytime I had a question. I was asking him about things I needed to know when it comes to the insurance, what it covers and how it works with the laws in Canada. I also asked him if there were things I should.know while driving up there. This was my first time ever in Canada. He acted like it was such a waste of time for him to have to answer these questions. The lady who worked at the hotel where the rental kiosk was in for when I dropped off the car; she was very nice and helpful! I don't think she worked foe the car company, just had a deal with them to help with the car rentals.

Worst car rental agency in the world. They accepted my reservation for 12pm noon but the office closes at 11.45am. So we had to abandon the reservation and find another one last minute for more money.

I made a reservation for 10am and was told by the clerk that the card would not be available for "several hours", while we did get a call about 1.5 hours later to come pick up the rental, I was extemely disapointed that making a reservation apparently means nothing. I also wasn't told that the location would be closed when we came to return the car at 6pm and had not been given any instructions on how to return. Luckily the hotel staff were able to point me in the right direction.

Gold membership made pickup easier than it would have been.

Cons:

Returning the car involved a scavenger hunt for an unmarked button to open a gate, a maze of a subterranean parking garage and being double-charged for my efforts.

Very friendly staff. If you talk to the staff and ask everything beforehand, there are no extra charges. Car was very new.

Cons:

Car didn't have USB for charging phone, I ran out of battery. Price was a bit higher than other companies but pickup location was better.

I can’t say whether my car was clean or not because I was denied a rental at the counter. Apparently, even though I’m over the age of 25, they’re not allowed to rent to me as I have my GDL (from Alberta). This was not made clear to me on their website or on Kayak when I made the booking. I never realized it would be a problem, as this is not my first rental car. I have a clean record and being GDL hasn’t been an issue before. I didn’t realize they’d be willing to take me if I was 21 and GDL graduated versus encroaching 30 and not wanting to take my test during COVID. I have no qualms with the customer service rep. I understand that he was doing his job, and when I asked for another service that would accept my GDL, he kindly gave me a phone number. I appreciated that. But my friend and I were still stranded on the side of the road with all our luggage and had to walk with it to the nearest rental company. It was a very unpleasant experience and I will not be using National Car Rentals in the future. Fortunately, I was able to procure another rental from this other company and it saved my vacation from a stressful and premature end.

The cost for the week was very fair. The staff at the reveal counter were very knowledgeable and helpful. The terms of the contract were clear and as expected. The car was fine. My only beef is that they didn't provide a courtesy pick up and drop off.
