InterContinental Hotels Chicago Magnificent Mile was built in 1929 and is an icon in-and-of-itself. It sits right on the Magnificent Mile, just a few steps north of the Chicago River. Not a good choice for families- kids stay free IF they sleep on the floor or in the bed with you. We booked a king room for 2 adults and a 9 year old. We travel often and when a hotel lets us book this type of room there's usually a pull out bed option for the 9 year old. When we arrived at this hotel we were told it would be $75/night for a roll away for him. This should be more up front when booking. All we could see on their website and all 3rd party booking sites was "kids stay free". Once we got the roll away bed it had a sheet on it- we had to ask housekeeping for a pillow and blanket. In addition you could feel every spring poking through- you know it's bad when a 9 year old who can typically sleep in any position complains. Pool is very nice but next time we'll head back to Embassy Suites where we'll have more room, just as nice a location, a free bed for our child and a free breakfast in a newly remodeled space- a better overall value.

The carpet in the whole building is worn and dirty. The rooms were not very clean but not horrible. the parking is absurd and cost $78 a day. The hotel store is very expensive and above other stores in the area. I would NEVER stay there again.

Low points: Low quality of bathrobe. No laundry bag. Only one drawer for clothes (wrong location, you have to lower your back to open the drawer at the bottom. Lighting not bright enough when curtains are closed for the evening. High points: Inside entrance to Starbucks even though waiting line is long. Perfectly strategic location of downtown Chicago.

I will never book with Kayak again when I made my reservation at check out date was changed to the current date when I try to contact kayak they said it was nonrefundable non-transferable so I was out the price of the room and the additional fees that kayak adds for the poor service if you use kayak double check your dates of stay prior to except at least twice

The hotel was beautiful! Linens were soft, bed was comfy! Would definitely stay here again! Great location! Had a view of Tribune building and the river beyond!

Pros:- The location on the Magnificent Mile, Michigan Avenue, is great and clearly what the hotel is counting on to cover for all of the shortcomings in the hotel.
Cons:My husband and I recently completed a 3 night stay at the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile, unfortunately, we were quite disappointed in the hotel. - No recognition for Spire Ambassador status which should have gotten me a room upgrade but did not, even though staff assured me we had been given one. Why lie about it? - Room (Grand Tower King Suite) was in need of refurbishment with peeling wallpaper and paint. - Climate controls did not actually do anything to control the too hot nature of the room. - Bathroom was ridiculously small and for a suite had just a shower over a bathtub with a yucky shower curtain. - Most of the staff were quite friendly but checking in took a very long time and I have my doubts that they were trained adequately. - Management was indifferent and lacked good customer service skills, which makes for a poor showing to loyal customers. - Room service was not great and they didn't even bring us a glass of water with our meals.
