FAQs - booking Colombia flights

  • What airport in Columbia offers the largest selection of domestic flights after my arrival in the country?

Without a doubt, the biggest hub for air travel in the country is the El Dorado International Airport (BOG), and you'll find plenty of flight options from Canadian cities such as Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, and Toronto to this airport. From this airport in Colombia, you will find nonstop flight options to a number of Columbian cities like Cali, Cucuta, Medellin, and Pereira, to name just a few.

  • Which airline travelling between Canada and Colombia will offer the most amenities and benefits for travellers?

Canadian citizens are generally quite familiar with the service offerings of Air Canada, an airline that offers plenty of flight options to get to cities in Columbia. Some of the amenities that this airline will offer on trips to Columbia include a personal touch-screen television that includes hundreds of hours of entertainment choices, AC power to charge electronic devices, an audio jack that you can use with your headphones or with the free headphones they offer, as well as a USB port.

  • Are there direct flights to Colombia?

The national carriers Air Canada and Avianca offer direct flights to Colombia's main international hub, Bogota El Dorado International Airport (BOG), departing from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). However, many U.S. carriers also offer connecting flights from major Canadian airports to bigger cities in Colombia such as Bogota, Medellin, Cali and Cartagena. These flights usually include a layover at a U.S. airport. Due to the wide variety of one-stop flights offered by many North American and Latin American carriers, these flights tend to be cheaper than direct flights.

  • Do I need a visa to travel to Colombia?

Canadian passport holders do not need a visa to enter Colombia if they are travelling to the country for tourism purposes only and their stay does not exceed 90 days. However, you need to present a passport that is valid for at least 6 months after your expected date of departure from Colombia.

  • Where should I fly to within Colombia?

While there are several international airports in Colombia, the majority of international flights arrive at El Dorado International Airport, in the country's capital Bogota. It is the busiest airport in Colombia and is a hub for Colombian carriers such as Avianca and LATAM Colombia. From here, you can easily catch connecting flights to domestic destinations across the country, making it the perfect starting point if you are planning to visit multiple cities and regions.

  • I want to visit Colombia's Caribbean islands. Where should I fly into?

The islands of San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina are serviced by Gustavo Rojas Pinilla International Airport (ADZ), which is the main airport of the archipelago and offers frequent flights to major Colombian cities such as Bogota, Medellin and Cartagena. Travellers who want to visit only the Caribbean islands should keep in mind that Air Transat offers seasonal flights from Montreal-Pierre Trudeau International Airport (YUL) to San Andres.

  • How long is the flight to Colombia?

An average direct flight from Canada to Colombia takes 15h 35m, covering a distance of 7986 km. The most popular route is Toronto - Bogotá with an average flight time of 6h 00m.

  • What is the cheapest flight to Colombia?

Very good, despite we had a delay because of some problems at the airport.

Horrible experience from start to end. Copa costumer service is non existent. They treat you bad. Everybody tells you different information. We didn’t received our luggage in the 1 day stop we did even we they said if was not going to be a problem. They didn’t respect the seats that we had and spread our family leaving in between of two big people who didn’t leave any space for me and crush me from side to side. I’ll never recommend Copa to anybody.

As usual, the flight with normal legroom was not very comfortable, but the second flight was much better because we had paid for extra legroom. It was very nice to check our bags without an extra fee.

la atencion en el avion fue excelente, la facilidad del checkin es muy buena.

I liked the friendliness of the crew and comfortable flight. All good.

Pros: "The seats in economy were confortable. The best thing was Copa gave us seats in the second line and my family traveled together."
Cons: "Coffe service could better the experience"
Cons: "The turbulence was really bad ! I couldn’t sleep at all !"
Pros: "No drink because didn’t open de bottle. No one care about it."
Pros: "Crew was great. Food was acceptable. Really comfortable flight."
Cons: "Entertainment could have been better. Tvs per seat to wAtch movies what we want"
Pros: "Need to smile... I think crew, can not smile and don't want to talk."
Cons: "Nothing"

There was absolutely no food or drink service unless it was paid for. I am not used to this.

No complimentary food and beverage (water, soda, coffe) is offered for a six and a half hours long international flight, not even in premium economy, just to try to squeeze a few more dollars out of the passengers. First and last time flying with Avianca.

No complimentary food and beverage (water, soda, coffe) is offered for a six and a half hours long international flight, not even in premium economy, just to try to squeeze a few more dollars out of the passengers. Same happened in the connecting flight, which was three and a half hours long (Bogota x Miami). First and last time flying with Avianca.

No complimentary snacks food, beverage (not even water), pillow and blanket on a 6 hours long flight (including economy comfort). A low form of nickeling an diming. Lost a recurring passanger over a soda. Avianca never again.

Every food and beverage has to be paid and the seat was not confortable. They even gave water.

Flight departure late. Got late in Colombia making us take a different flight next day. Avianca airport crew messed up my ticket so when a I got in Brazil I didn’t have a ticket for my destination. Had to buy a new ticket out of my pocket.

Avianca: you pay for a high-end flight and you fly like a low (very low) cost!

Terrible Business cabin from GRU to BOG. I also flew from BOG to CUN on Premium seat, another disappointment. Not even water is offered for free! Avianca should be ashamed about this poor service.

At least free water in all flights Beverages are desired in international flights Luggage damages need be refund!

The flight was overbooked and the solution gave was unrespctful. I arrived 4 hour in advance in the airport and only after 2hous was possible suggest a different ticket with another company LATAM, I have accepted, but when I was checking in at LATAM the tickets was issued without luggage, what it is absurd since I have bought my tickets including it since the beginning. Due to the timing for the next flight was not possible return to Avianca to claim due to the distance between Both companies Avianca and Latam since were located in different terminals. I have insiste to the crew of Latam to call Avianca to solve it, but they could help they were alleging that only paying a thousand pesos Mexicans ($1,000 MXN) to dispatch my luggage would be accepted and I have no money at all. So I had to beg for others passagens, it was an humiliating to exchange luggage with who was platinum in order to return back the luggage in the connection airport in Brazil (GRU). I have no clue that a judicial process would be taken from my side due the lots of stress in sequence by the non professional treatment with a passenger that was just following everything said by Avianca.. Long hours of waiting until next flight and only arrive at final destine in 6hs later..

The flight I was connecting with waited for me even though my 1st flight was late. I really appreciated that.

The seat is too hard and my back and bottom are having servers pain

There was no lounge for passengers waiting before boarding the aircraft at F65, so passengers are just sitting on the floor or just spread everywhere the premises before boarding.

Great crew, friendly. Found the trip long just sitting with no onboard entertainment

All went fine. Boarding was efficient, staff was really friendly, and we were kept up to date on any changes to our itinerary. My only note for improvement is that on this particular plane, the recline in economy class was negligible. I know it's a coach seat, but I had another UA flight (SFO to BWI) and the seat was more comfortable with better recline.

Really good experience with a redeye flight from SFO to BWI. Boarding was efficient, plane was comfortable and newer than others, lots of audio and video choices, and staff was great. I appreciate United's service.

Was a good flight. On time. Was full and all went well

My flight from Toronto was delayed but the connecting United flight waited for me 👍

The original seat on the flight Toronto Newark had the floor flooded with coffee spilled, so they changed our seat to premium economy. For the flight from Newark to San Salvador we were i the last row, no reclinable seats and beside the toilet. I asked for headsets to the waitress and she gave it to.me test of all the passengers, while she was staying right behind me..

Couldn’t get the tv screen to work, didn’t try food, so no comment

Lots of weather delays that were poorly communicated and managed. I get there are weather delays but they didn’t make it clear what was happening or comfortable on the plane

lounge was the highlight - seats weren't that comfortable - it was a full flight but no complaints

The flight attendants were excellent. They were Japanese obviously. They helped my wife navigate the controls for the seat. The lunch setup was wonderful. They were always walking up and down the aisles to be sure there were no problems.

Boarding was efficient. On board drink was slow. Temperature was a bit warm in the beginning.

Nothing wrong on this flight but nothing special. It was oversold and they had to bump people which is always bad.

The flight was on time, but the food was poor for business class.

Flight was delayed after boarding and no idea when it would take off. Crew in Portland did arrange for transport to Boston for a different set of flights to my destination.

less delays; there was an hour+ delay on both flights. self serve check in kiosks weren't available for British Airways flights

The flight was delayed multiple times. I had to buy a new tickets (4 tickets) for my family for a total of $5200 cnd And missed thanks giving with our family. Very very poor and disappointing service.

Uncomfortable seats at row 40 A and 40 C, they didn’t recline. Also, my prior seat selection was not honored.

The boarding was fine , staff nice. Seats are always so awful on every plane. They need to make more room for passengers. Although Air north does not have televisions,, every airline should model the experience of flying with them. . Small meal , drinks, and a warm cookie. It’s a lovely airline with very friendly staff and I always look forward to flying with them.

The boarding process in Toronto bad as they share space with domestic flights and when those domestic flights come in you are locked out behind closed doors until they are done and then its a mad rush to get your boarding gates and board. This is not so much due to Air Canada but with the GTAA, but Air Canada could use different gates especially early morning in order to prevent such travel angst.

Bye portaction for cancelation , when you want to change date, you have to cancel And pay 20% as cancelation. To lose as cancelation!!! Upsell airline!!!!!!!!!!!

Terrible quality wifi and they charge a lot for it. They nickel and dime you for everything.

The flight is very short, may be a little snack can be offered

Not happy with Air Canada . Flight was cancelled got the run around trying to get another flight that was direct none to be found ended up going to Denver then onto Austin adding 7 hours to our trip. Was travelling with some one who had walking issues that’s why we were happy to have a direct flight then it didn’t happen adding more stress on her

Well you cancelled our direct flight to Austin from Toronto granted you got us on another flight but sent us to Denver then onto Austin delaying our arrival time in Austin by 7 hrs I was flying with 3 other people none of us were happy with our Air Canada experience

Over 4 hour delay in departure. Aircraft and gate changes. Problems loading cargo. It was a mess.

Flight was ok but being left waiting for over 2 hrs at baggage claim at destination and there being no air Canada reps on hand was totally unacceptable especially after you charged $31.50 to check the bag !! This should be refunded .

The food on Rouge is mediocre at best. The inflight entertainment did not work for me. I am technically oriented so there must have been an issue with the Rouge wifi network. I used my phone and downloaded content.
