Pros: The upstairs loft had it’s own lounge area where it was possible to stay up late browsing the internet without disturbing anyone downstairs. The staff were willing to drive me into town whenever I asked them and even came to pick me up from a restaurant that I had walked to several miles away.
Cons: The price to do laundry was higher than I’ve seen at other guest houses.

Pros: Very good breakfast, great public bath, and clean and cosy room with a great lake view.

Pros: Peaceful location by the Lake, 10 minutes from Memanbetsu Airport, attentive staff, close to Abashiri to visit the attractions there, caters to tour groups, good onsen and amenities, good breakfast and dinner, spacious rooms and dining areas.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful lake views from a large well appointed room ( traditional Japanese) Very relaxing onsen. Close to pond smelt fishing.
Cons: Distance from town. Only two early shuttles into train station & port. Had the Kaiseki dinner but found it too rushed.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: This is an traditional Japanese hotel. All facilities and decorations are old but in good condition. The staffs are friendly and helpful. The dinner and buffet breakfast are nice.
Cons: Nil
5.8 Okay
Pros: The hotel is ok and has large rooms and an extremely kind staff. You can see it used to be nice but now it just very old faded and tapistry smells like dust. We were disappointed by that, given the price.
Cons: Way too expensive for the quality of the structure.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Staff members were very welcoming, nice and professional. Also very accommodating. We are vegetarian, but we weren't careful enough to confirm what they would serve for dinner (for some reason, we thought it'd be buffet!). They accommodated our request to switch out some of the dishes for us at literally the last minute!
Cons: Building and rooms were old. Decor was outdated. Not very clean baths (mold spotted on walls and ceilings).
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We really liked this hotel. The rooms are large with a lot of room to move, beds are comfy (firm). Standard western breakfast available (bacon, scrambled eggs, croissants, toast, bagels, jams, honey, juice and coffee) if you are not into japanes breakfast. The publuc onsen is large with all the amenities and always busy. There is a private bath on level 7 you can book with reception. Open from 16.30 to 22.00 at an additional fee. The heart and soul of the hotel are the staff. Cannot express how appreciative we are of their genuine care and hospitality towards us. They were always smiling and willing to communicate (either by pigeon english, sign language or google translate). This hotel is exceptionally clean and well looked after. Highly recommend.

Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, and dry cleaning/laundry services. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: - The restaurant on the property. - Great selection of both Japanese & Western foods for the breakfast buffet. - The Japanese style pjs. You can even wear them in the restaurant. - The view from the top (9th) floor. - My room was right beside the elevator, but I didn't hear a thing. Maybe I slept extra deeply that night. - Enough info in English.
Cons: The public bath room (ladies, of course) was smaller than I anticipated. It's not their fault and perhaps I was spoiled with the ones I've visited before. Just know with 5 other ladies there, it will feel cramped.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great staff, friendly and efficient. Right across the road from that station, very convenient. 10 minute walk from the wharf and tour boats, many restaurants nearby too.
6.7 Good
Cons: Very small room, old hotel
7.9 Good
Pros: Location was good for railway station. Staff were efficiently friendly.
Cons: Bathroom was cramped and old fashioned.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Small room and limited parking.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location , nearly JR Abashiri st. and Bus station
7.5 Good
Pros: Near Train Station.
Cons: Hotel restaurant closed for weekend.
7.9 Good
Pros: The location is great.
Cons: One of the staffs greeted me with a very long face at the front desk.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It's right in front of the train station and free parking. It is convenient for travelers who use the train. We rented a car so the free parking was great and it is easy to find. It's a bit off the city center and only about 15 minutes away by walking. Staff was nice, check in and out were fast, and food was decent. It's a good place to stay for a short visit.
9.2 Excellent
Cons: The double bed was too small for the price so it was rather uncomfortable
Minshuku Lamp - Abashiri - Building
11
7.7 Good (331 reviews)
C$ 33+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Minshuku Lamp in Abashiri, you'll be steps from Abashirikohan Onsen and a 2-minute drive from Abashiri Historical Museum. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: The location is biased, the room has a musty smell and it is uncomfortable to live.
7.9 Good
Pros: For the price we paid, we weren't expecting much from the place, but it gets the job done. The place is run by a daughter-dad pair who spoke good English, so communication wasn't a problem. The building is old, but kept very clean -- no moldy or musty smell. Some guests may enjoy the rustic feel of the place.
Cons: There are only 2 toilets in the building -- something to keep in mind when there are many other guests staying.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very nice and cozy hostel in Abashiri, highly recommended if you are looking for an experience akin to staying in a Japanese residence.
Cons: Location is further than what you might expect looking at booking.com's map since you will have to walk further down the main road in order to cross the train tracks. Also rather far from Abashiri's entertainment area.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The room is very cheap. The host is very nice and helpful, an old man but good English which really impressive.
Cons: Very old house. Water leaking to room after heavy rain. The shower room is shared and only one shower room for around 8ros, horrible.
6.7 Good
Pros: Very heartwarming place, nothing was excellent but everything worked. Loved our room, a very spacey downstairs room with a small table. Didn't really need anything else. Close to the station, even closer if you cross the train lines somewhere between the station and the minshuku, but take care when crossing. If you are visiting Abashiri for a few days then consider checking out the Chipmunk Park! Had a lovely trip there and it healed my soul.
Cons: Not exactly the cleanest place but I've seen worse. Smells were sometimes interesting, but then again, this is an old house
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Really basic dormitory, run by very kind people. Just a few minutes from abashiri station you'll get a nice and clean room with tatami mats and a fuoton. It just feels like living an everyday life in Japan. The breakfast is a very delicious rosinbread self made by the owner and a pack of Hokkaido milk. It's really basic but that was exactly what I was looking for:) I felt more comfortable than in an impersonal hotel. The price just fits and the people are really heartwarming. If you're in abashiri I recommend an hour walk up Mt tento where the okhotsk drift ice museum and the museum of the ainu people is located.
6.3 Good
Pros: Welcoming hosts. Cheap price.
Cons: The smell and lack of cleanliness in the bathroom and toilets was outputting. The futons were too firm.
6.7 Good
Pros: It is quite cheap, compare to the options, but that's just about it.The little-bit elderly people that runs the place speaks good english and are kind and welcoming, but as soon as you`ve been designated your room and payed, you're on your own. The room was clean, so no remark on that. Towel included without any extra charge. Good for a night or two, for a comparativley cheap price. It is close to the railwaystation.
Cons: The facility It is a bit run-down and there was a odour at the first floor. It could do with some maintanence. The room was spacious, but hardly any furniture. There was two small tables, and one of them was occupied with a Tv-set and that's it, apart from some hangers on the wall. There is no refrigerator where you could store food-items (if you have any).
7.5 Good
Pros: This place is very affordable and convenient for those that use public transportation. The first floor is quite messy but the rooms you'll be staying in on the second floor will be nice.
Cons: The breakfast that we bought was somewhat of a letdown and not worth the price. You receive your breakfast when you arrive which confused me immensely until the owner came and handed it to us. It's a large loaf of bread with sugar and raisins that they said it would defrost by the time you wanted to eat it the next morning. You can get better and cheaper food outside of the hostel at a convenience store.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff were extremely kind and helpful. This hostel had an extremely rare traditional feel with the Japanese style rooms, communal bath and sinks. Most visitors were Japanese and they were very friendly. Very value for money.
Cons: Only one bath for everyone to share, toilets weren’t exactly clean. Other than that, everything was great.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: staff very helpful
Cons: there did not seem to be any breakfast, confusion about ordering, not sure if this should be ordered in advance..no facilities for making a coffee or tea
6.3 Good
Pros: Comfy fluffy duvets.
Cons: Soulless. Quite far from town but fine with a car. Very anonymous staff - barely any communication.
4.2 Okay
Pros: Not very much
Cons: The owner is a control freak, it's all about him.He was banging around at 10.30 at night. The only time you can have breakfast is 7am. Then he was vacuuming outside our room at 7.30 in the morning. Very unfriendly atmosphere, no where to sit and relax in the rooms or in the hostel. You couldnt make yourself tea or coffee. We left a day early because we were totally dissatisfied. We love staying in hostels but this one was everything a hostel shouldn't be.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The owner gave me a lift from train station to the hostel, and back to the train station, even though I departed really early.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The offered ride to and from the hostel (since it's a bit far from station)
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location of this hostel is exceptional in terms of views of the sea and the scenery. Sometimes the hosts drove us. They were very forthcoming.
Cons: The only downside of the unique location is that it is a bit remote for people without car. You need a taxi (about JPY 1,000 one way).
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Overlooking view of the sea from the kitchen
Cons: Only one bathroom so it can be troublesome if there are too many people
5.4 Okay
Pros: Quiet, surprisingly comfortable bed, or maybe I was just really tired.
Cons: I told the owner that I'd arrive by train at 20:24 repeatedly, but he insisted that I call once I arrived at the station for pick-up service. He told me to use a public phone when I told him I didn't have a sim card for calls, but I couldn't find the phone booth (I saw it the next day, outside). I ended up taking a taxi, and every other time going to and from the hostel I just walked. Owner seems to be a little inflexible regarding the times to use the shuttle service to the station. Location 35 minute walk from station. Very poor shower room, didn't even shower my last night because it felt cleaner not to.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our host was very attentive
6.3 Good
Pros: Breakfast was really good although very early in the morning. And there was a pickup service.
Cons: It's really far outside so once you are up there (by pick up service) you won't get back to town. Since I was the only guest it was quite lonely.
