Locanda Il Fornello - Altopascio - Bedroom
1
8.8 Excellent (129 reviews)
C$ 106+
Overview Reviews
Set in vineyards of Monte Carlo in Altopascio, Il Fornello features a swimming pool and a garden. Accommodation has free WiFi and a TV. Breakfast is sweet and savoury, and guests can enjoy wine tasting. Offering garden views, each room has a private bathroom with free toiletries and a hairdryer. The rooms have classic-style décor and tiled floors. Free parking is available on site. Locanda Il Fornello B&B also boasts a small shop where guests can buy local food products and hand-made t-shirts. Lucca is 25 km away. A10 Autostrada dei Fiori Motorway is a 10-minute drive away from the B&B.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Wonderfull hosts Erica and Lucca made our stay memorable. They had a lot of tips for things to visit and how best to parc there. The terras and surrounding of the house was amazing. The bed in the appartement was very good.
Cons: Very busy road which was poorly lightend so a walk to the restaurants near by is a dangerous action. The pool is great but there were lots of insects so the following days we rubbed mosquito milk all over and the problem was solved.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place, beautiful surroundings, very kind and friendly hosts. Very clean, nice and big bedroom. Highly recommend.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Host and hostess were delightful, so helpful and friendly
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The property is located in lovely Tuscan country side, surrounded by grapevines and olive trees. The hosts Erica and Luca (sorry if we didn't spell your name correctly) are really wonderfull people that went the extra mile to make us welcome and our stay comfortable. The room is spacious and the views beautiful. The shower is a little cramped but does the job. The breakfast was tasty and ample (cereal, breads, cakes, ham, cheese, yogurt, juice and coffee). Lovely to have breakfast in front of the house or picnic lunch in the garden. The swimming pool was clean and cool (and essential as temperatures were in the high 30s) and sunbeds always available. There are plenty of good restaurants within about 10-20 minute drive in any direction and Erica recommended many that were all excellent (In Montecarlo - Ristorante Osteria Del Vecchio Olivo (prebook in the garden, good steaks and olive oil on round bread), Trattoria montecarlo, and Osteria La Buca del Norcino; Osteria Martinelli (great steaks) in Marginone; Pizzeria Lo Sghello (Pizza) in San Salvatore and Pizzeria Come A Casa (Pizza and Hamburgers) in Borgo a Buggiano. This is an excellent base to explore this part of Tuscany as it is a short drive to Florence (sightseeing), Lucca (history), Viareggio (beach) and many other interesting/realxing places.
Cons: There wasn't anything we didn't like but because it was so hot it would have been good to have air-conditioning during the night; the fan just moved the hot air around. It would also have been good to have a few more hooks or hangers on the walls to dry towels and sweaty clothes. I would also suggest putting up mirrors opposite the gate to the main road to make it safer to drive out of the property as traffic is quite fast and difficult to see traffic left and right until almost too late; the road can be a little noisy some nights. Although this is no fault of the wonderfull hosts and is common across Italy, the large towers and crisscrossing powerlines somewhat lessen the picturesque landscape that defines Tuscany. However, all of this is minor and I highly recommend this place.

Pros: Very pleasant location with lovely grounds and a great pool.We were only staying for one night but would loved to have stayed longer.Peaceful.

Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff responsiveness and good facilities.
Cons: Breakfast consisted mostly of packaged sweets rather than healthy options. The garbage bin was not cleared within or 7 nights stay. Breakfast was not provided in the last 2 days.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Quirky converted farmhouse. Clean, comfortable, secure. Breakfast variety fine, but basically Italian (ie. coffee and sugary things). Quiet, rural location, relatively well placed for those walking the Via Francigena. (Owner may provide transport to path.)
Cons: Not a case of not liking, but guests who expect more than basic hostel-style accommodation might be disappointed.. Staffed by men. Fine, all were friendly but the absence of a woman's touch contributes to an impersonal element. Car or other transport is essential for accessing range of restaurants in nearby Altopascio (we can recommend in particular cafe/bar La Dogana).

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Giulia and David are amazing hosts! It's a wonderful location directly in the city.
Cons: The rooms could use some updating. Giulia and David are the amazing new owners and I'm sure they have things planned
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful personal. They offer a very good tasting Dinner if you like. Nice Breakfast.
Cons: No air-conditioning.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The personnel was very friendly and welcoming. Could not have wished for better!
Cons: Me and my boyfriend stay at the place for 1 night. We have been travelling around Tuscany and looking for nice and old/authentic places to stay. In this hotel, the room was not comfortable - it had a "damp" feeling and it was rather dark. The biggest turn-off was the bathroom: there was mold, the shower was very very basic (it was impossible to shower without getting the whole bathroom wet) ...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic & caring host couple
Cons: Nothing to dislike
9.2 Excellent
Pros: A hidden gem! The location is fabulous, and we loved the town of Montecarlo. Laura was absolutely phenomenal in helping us plan our mini vacation....coordinating wine tastings, restaurant reservations and preparing a special local meal for us. It's a quaint BnB and will definitely return.
Cons: If you are not able to climb stairs and carry your luggage, this would be a difficult accommodation for you.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The place has a lovely feel to it. It has retained the old charm and has fabulous old beams. The hosts Guilia and Davide were very friendly and welcoming. Lovely breakfast with home made parties and cake. Also my partners gluten free requests were responded to in a wonderful way.
Cons: The bathroom was a bit small, but that is very minor.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location, the hosts were extremely helpful, kind and very welcoming, couldn't ask for more. They booked us a table at a lovely restaurant, that was only a small walk away from the B&B. Informed us about the local history and upcoming events. The rooms are traditional and very clean. would defiantly stay again .

Pros: Beautiful place.. gorgeous and yummy breakfast. Staff very nice.
7.1 Good
Pros: Very nice location,, quite,, olive trees around, no disturbing people around. Easy and convenient parking. Strong wifi. Excellent restaurant.
Cons: Room was nice, good enough for short stay. Unfortunately there is a poor noise isolation so that you can hear all door opening/closing, toilet flushing etc. Villa is in a very nice, quite location - but a map in booking.com shows it should have been in Montecarlo but in reality it is ca. 2 km far away, MC reachable by car.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great stay in a private villa - rooms comfortable . Luscious gardens overlooking olive trees. Ample parking. Staff super friendly - a really happy but hardworking troop - they don’t know the word stress - superb restaurant.
Cons: Had great problems because the address is wrong - we don’t have a navi and according to the given address we ended up at a private home. Also must be noted it’s actually 2 km outside of Montecarlo and not in center. But then just followed the road signs into the Villa LaNina.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is just amazing, not far away from Lucca and Florence. You can find in a small town of few streets a nice restaurants, bars and even nice shoe shop. The place gets busier in the afternoon, as lot of Italians from nearby cities would go there for dinner. The town itself has a history. It is surrounded by walls with main gates, located on a hill with an amazing views. The property Antica Casa Naldi is traditional Tuscan house, with very big rooms, comfortable beds and beautiful views. The host is an amazing woman, so easy going... we felt there like at home. Brilliant breakfast, big fully equipped kitchen... Our 4 years boy loved everything about the house and the place, which is very important when travelling with kids. I highly recommend this place and for sure we will be back :)
Cons: nothing was wrong...not-a-thing!

Pros: Great host, room, bed, kitchen, location and atmosphere! Would recommend to anyone!
