Top tips for finding the perfect Amsterdam hotel

Planning a romantic trip to Amsterdam? Choose one of the charming boutique hotels located in the Jordaan area and surroundings, such as The Dylan Amsterdam hotel. This hotel with its views of the canal is perfect for romantic getaways.
Amsterdam is not a particularly large city, and it is quick and simple to travel across it. Give yourself more options and don’t limit your search to only hotels in the city center. Even if the hotel you choose is considered far from downtown, such as the hotel Cityden Up Amsterdam South, it will still be easily accessible.
If you are looking to travel to Amsterdam to enjoy the nightlife, consider staying near the squares of Leidseplein and the Rembrandtplein. These areas are located in the city center and are crowded with bars, shows, and restaurants, making them perfect for a night out on the town. Some popular hotel choices are Hotel Iron Horse and the Mozart Hotel.
Make sure to keep in mind that many hotels in Amsterdam are in older buildings without elevators. If you know that you will need access to an elevator, look at newer hotels that are located further out from the city center. The neighborhood known as Vondelpark has many options, one being the Alfred Hotel.
Many hotels in Amsterdam are not equipped with air-conditioning, since the temperature never becomes particularly hot, even in peak summer months. If you would like a room with air-conditioning, it is best to look at 4- and 5-star hotels, such as the Hotel Sofitel Legend the Grand.
If you are struggling to find an affordable hotel in the city center, consider some of the hostels in the city. Tulipana Residence is a convenient alternative that offers parking, free wi-fi and a terrace. You could also take a look at Residence 86, which has a shared kitchen, bike rental, and canal views. Both are cheap options when visiting Amsterdam.

Pro " Shall you spend a night in Amsterdam before flying anywhere from Schiphol airport - this is definitely the best choice. Placed literally in the airport it gives you an extra hour in the morning without any commute before the flight... The room was spacious and very clean. And VERY quiet - windows and walls perfectly kill all noise from the airport, cars, planes etc. Bed was comfortable. Generally all was good. But the best thing was the view. No, THE VIEW! We've got a corner room on one of top floors with a view to the airfield and we were able to get an awesome view of planes landing and taking off - really impressive. "
Con " There's no free water - not a single bottle. And the minibars is expensive. There's also a downside of a great noise insulation - you can not open a window to get some fresh air (though the air quality is very good and ac system works well). "

Pro " Location was great "
Con " Keys stopped working every day and it takes a very long time to get from the room tothe front desk to get new ones. I also was unable to make my first night due to a change in our flight that was beyond my control and although I called more than 24 hours before arrival they would not refund my first night stay. I would not suggest pre paying. I have worked in hotels so I know there are always ways staff can make it up to you - free breakfast, bottles of wine, discounts on future stays etc. Nothing was done "

Pro " i love the fact that when i got to the place early, though you have to wait for the bed to be ready, you can use all facilities and i was able to take a nice shower, leave my luggage and not waste time waiting... i went out and about early. the staff was friendly as well. *I stayed 2 separate nights with same quality of experience. "
Con " the rooms are tooo hot. i know it's summer and it is hot everywhere, but the room was a different kind of hot. windows could not be opened for some real air to come in at night at least. a small fan was in the room, but only reaches the lower bunk of one bed. room for 4beds small that you cant open your stuff. "

8.1 Excellent (4,544 reviews)
Pro " LOVED the location, the view from our room, and the historic vibe of the hotel. Also enjoyed several visits to the pool/spa area which was lovely and very relaxing. "
Con " The entire facade was in plastic and scaffolding...which I guess I didn't realize. Kind of a bummer. Also the room was not quite as posh as the photos made it out to be. For me, that price should have afforded me a bit more luxury in the room, but I suppose it is a downtown hotel in busy season and I should not be very surprised. "
