Pros: The hotel is not actually on the water, it is about two blocks back, which means that paying extra for ocean view (which we did) might not have been worth it. However, staff were amazing and very helpful, the Chinese restaurant on the 2nd floor was also great. It is a short and very cheap cab ride to Silver Beach and the railway station. If I am ever back in Beihai I would stay here.
Pros: Big comfortable rooms if a little dated
Cons: Sea view was deceiving it’s about 15min walk to the sea
Pros: Very friendly staffs, close to beach.
Cons: Worn decoration, dirty carpet in the restaurant

Pros: Clean. Spacious. Convenience.
Cons: Coffee shop wasn't open for lunch. Only option was the restaurant which didn't cater for singles.
Pros: Extremely friendly staff, everyone went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
Pros: Very clean rooms, very nice hotel
Cons: People keep smoking in non smoking rooms, so the communal air flow in the bathrooms means it feels like you have someone smoking in your room, we've been in two different rooms and this has happened on both occasions. The £50 fine is not a big enough deterrent for people who can afford to stay here
Pros: view and having hbo and the horizon club
Cons: Bacon is terrible the beds are way too hard and I don’t like that I cannot get breakfast in the horizon club , breakfast downstairs was terrible and I like to work in the horizon club that is why paid the extra money
Pros: Clean and new after recent refurbishment
Cons: Clean, tidy, looks new, good service and view and value for money.
Pros: Great location, in walking distance to the Old Street. My room looked out on the water. The staff was very helpful, concierge desk. They set me up with a bicycle and helped me plan a day trip to Weizhou Island.
Pros: breakfast. and concierge staffs were great! everyone of them!
Cons: when we were checkin in, both times, they put us directly in the smoking rooms, without even trying to get non-smoking rooms, which we months in advance. whats worse, was the front desk staff went inside the office for a while, came out said, ms shou, i’ve change it for you to non-smoking rooms now. i was so grateful, thanked her (we had two elders who has coughing issues and very sensitive to air quality). as we moved into the room, i realised it was the smoking floor and smoking rooms, she just thought i wouldnt be able to notice it, a fool in a simple word, ... this was very hard to accept, that she lied so easily to my face, accepted my gratitude and yet, lied. the rooms were filled with air refresher‘s smell, i don’t know what made me feel worse, the fact my aunt went outside to get some air, or the front staff treated me like idiot. (in all the nonsmoking room, there is a white card sign says if you smoke there will be a fine...). And there‘re more things i could point out, but this was by far the worst experience of all... on top of it took me nearly 20min and being pushed around four different extensions to finally landed roomservice, (yes i did dial the room service button on the phone), first one says sorry this is emergency service, you need to dial 52, even though i was puzzled, still i did what she told me, and another person said you want what?! no you need to dial 51. i did again. this time, the person said no, this is the cafe, you need to dial 50 (or something i can’t remember by now), i did again, the same person picked up (as 51), said oh hey , we share the same line, haha, so what do you want? ... hilarious? and i‘ll spare myself and whoever reads this the time to write my experience on booking these rooms... another story another time.
Pros: There’s nothing what I can like.
Cons: I don’t know how this hotel call Shangri-La. I’m sorry but I’ve stayed many times in good hotels and specially stayed many times in different Shangri-La, but that one phhhh... The staff cannot speak in proper English, the hotel is super dirty and old. Remind me about some USSR hotel which call “Pobeda” One time we ordered pizza to our room and Gosh the pizza was worse than from Pizza Hut - can you believe that?! The rug on the floor is very dirty and have many dark spots, bed linen definitely is not Shangri-La hotel style, look like they borrowed it from Home Inn hostel, furniture is very old, sofas in the lobby look super dusty and let me think about that there’s a lot of bad bugs. Sorry but I’d give -10 from 10!
Pros: We were welcomed by the Front Desk staff who escorted us to the Horizon Club. Ms. Tina welcomed us with a great smile and assisted us with the check-in process. The service at the Club Level was great and a big thanks to both Ms. Tina and Ms. Yoin. They were both excellent in their job. I would also like to point out the service at the Coffee Garden restaurant, especially the lady who brought fresh salmon to our table and even remembered my preference the next day. The hotel is in a good location and the rooms with ocean view are very comfortable. We all know that the hotel is a bit dated but the service provided makes it still a great choice.

Pros: Good location, good value.
Cons: All acceptable
Pros: Basically no meal options, needed to buy raw food at nearby market and take to kitchen where chef would cook it at a cost of RMB 10 per item, so say 1 piece fish =10rmb, plus vegetables+10rmp, maybe some prawns, another 10rmb, so by the time you buy the food then pay for cooking becomes quite expensive.
Cons: Hotel is next door to Border Guards Barracks - every morning at 6:30, bugle wakes soldiers, and anybody else that has a room on this side of hotel, again several times during day until final blow at 10pm every night
Pros: This hotel was a decent no-frills spot. Service was okay. The room was large and had a window and a comfortable bed and all the basics you would expect.
Cons: The Booking.com location for this hotel is completely wrong. Make sure you look up the Chinese address in a Chinese mapping app or you will just end up going round in circles several blocks away. When you do eventually find it, you will notice that the location kind of sucks. There isn't any sightseeing close by - the old town is far away, the beach is far away, everything is far away. Beihai anyway is poorly planned so you need to hike a ways to get anywhere interesting, but if I'd known that before I booked, I would have chosen a different place.

Traveling to the hotel is easy with Beihai Railway Station located approximately 5km away and Fucheng Airport roughly 24km away. After a long day of sightseeing, guests can retire to the comfort of the hotel. This hotel is a popular accommodation for guests traveling alone.
Cons: The hostel didn't have the room I booked available and wanted to have a decent amount of money on top for another room. Just after some discussion they agreed to the old price. The new room didn't even have a window and the shared bathroom wasn't for anyone afraid of cockroaches.
Pros: Basic but spacious 4-bed dorm with extra wide beds in a loft above a sitting area and bathroom. Staff speaks no English but tries hard to be helpful. Located near the Old Streets.
Cons: WiFi works well in common areas but not in the room.
Pros: The communal lobby/lounge was lovely. A very funky and warm space.
Cons: The 'mattress' was merely a mattress protector so the beds were uncomfortably hard. The room needed a good clean. The bins were overflowing (including the toilet paper bin) and there was a pile of dead cockroaches in the room. Hard to miss when you first walk in and given that in 2 nights there were only 2 others in the dorm on just one of these nights i think its safe to say it had been a while since its last clean.
Pros: Super friendly staff and the lady is a very good cook! It's a very familial environment. You'll feel like home. We had dinner altogether: sumptuous seafood selection for very a cheap price. The common space is very convivial, confortable. The weather was quite cold when I was there (December) so they tried to make it as confortable as possible: offering tea all the time, extra blanket, etc. The decoration is lively, in an artistic backpacker style. In summer time, I'll go back there anytime!
Cons: The rooms are awfully insulated, so if you go in a cold weather, it's not the most confortable place to be, although the staff will try to make it good for you (AC, extra blanket, electric blanket...).
Pros: rooms door left open on arrive. cat dropping in bathroom, clean after complaint. No heating, Staff did not care, promise extra blanket - did not deliver. quote staff translated "what do you expect from hostel?".
Cons: everything was sub-standard. Rate all hostel I have stayed from 0-5. this got to be zero.
Pros: No wander why i was the only customer. The first night i had to get out of the room in the middle night.because of the rain ,there was water leak from ceiling and everywhere.
