I.O.W is a great holiday location and the Pilot Boat Inn is a great place to stay and enjoy that relaxed, laid back experience unique to the island.
Host who cooked breakfast very friendly and knowledgeable about local area
Pleasant helpful staff.
The noise outside, sounded like a fridge humming all night.
The most minimized “Full English Breakfast” ever. Breakfast was served on very hot, microwaved plates. Carrying one poached egg of about 2 inches tall. 3 dark brown things of undefined model, tough and tastless, probable the mushrooms. One whitered tomato of about one inch. One slice of ham, no bacon, curled by heating, tasting like an old piece of leather. The crown of it was the “sausage,” about two inches long and one inch thick. Heated by microwave, tastless, fat, greasy. The scrambeld eggs proved to be an instant powder product, mixed with water and heated in the microwave. There were two slices of bread for each guest, self servicing to be toasted. A small jar of milk. No slice of cheese, meat of whatso ever. The “fresh fruit juice”appeared to come out of a supermarketpackage, sold there for 25p per liter. The first morning the coffee was an instant type, heated by the microwave. One could overhear the well known ping of that device. A quick glance into the kitchen showed just a mess, no sign of refurbishment at all.
The bedroom itself was rather, furnished and carpeted with the absolute minimum. Looking out of the window one could see a part of the flat roof, full of dirt and moss-grown. The shower was reasonable, however one should have a specialmanual to adjust the water taps. Old buildings are noisy of course. But to sleep at an upper corridor, closed by a “fire door” which closed every time with an enormous slam caused by a built-in very strong spring, was not the most desirable. The innerwall cladding of the inn itself was composed by what looked the best as founded wreckwood, very sloppy attached. Furniture and floorcarpeting worn out. However, the absolute top was the hotel entrance. Looked like the back door entrance of an old pigshed. One had to stamble along and over a lot of dirt, waste, broken furniture to reach the “corridor” See picture. No wonder that Mr Ha-Ha Joli George required pre-payment and was very keen in disappearing before somebody could ask a question.
