8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very good staff and clean quiet place to stay.
Cons: We will opt to two single beds next time, as the one double bed was too small for us. This resulted in a sleepless night first night. Fortunately the staff made sure we had an extra bed which made the second night much more comfortable.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: So Clean and tidy and quiet.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very close to the town centre with none of the noise & bustle. Unusually for a B&B, but more than welcome, the tea/coffee facilities had a good supply of all - including milk. Breakfast, with a choice of Tea or FILTER Coffee, gave a good selection, I chose the full English which was plentiful & my wife chose Salmon & Scrambled Egg on toast; delicious! Some other star additions were matching china, including a china teapot. Great touches. The hotel was clean, room was spotless. White towels were deep & plush. We stayed over the 3-day Bank Holiday weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Cons: No negatives.

Pros: The room and ensuite bathroom were really nice, clean and extremely well decorated. The BnB is only 5 to 7 mins from the city centre by foot, and easily accessible. The flexibility of the breakfast (i.e. we could decide everyday whether we would want breakfast the next day and select our preferences from a list) was also greatly appreciated.

Pros: Board games and pool table a nice touch
7.5 Good
Pros: The brown toasts are super delicious! Well equipped lounge with many games for the family to enjoy!
Cons: Need extra work in the bathroom to boost the shower pressure and the bathroom fittings. More choice for breakfast and a lunch/dinner service.
7.7 Good
Pros: The location isnt brilliant! It's at the end of a potholed drive and at the end of an industrial estate - but it is only 5 minutes from the town centre of Buxton. The rooms are not big and the bathroom is tiny but it has all the facilities. However, the staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast was more than enough. The price is very attractive and of course, parking is free which is not the case in the centre of Buxton. We would stay again!
Cons: I suppose we would have preferred a bigger bathroom. There is only room for one person at a time.
Biggin Hall Hotel - Buxton - Building

C$ 152+
Overview Reviews
Located in Buxton, Biggin Hall Hotel is in a national park, within a 10-minute drive of Dovedale National Nature Reserve and Tissington Hall. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The room contained all that was necessary and much more. The en-suite included everything we needed, but most importantly, had a bath (which seems to be becoming a rarity these days)? There were nice touches like leaving a half bottle of Prosecco and a large bottle of locally brewed beer in the fridge (incidentally fresh milk was there as well). There was a problem with the TV but the manager came and fixed it within 5 minutes. Also after breakfast, a free packed lunch was available for everyone. Finally, the staff was extremely helpful and friendly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Delicious
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Pheasant breast was tough to the point of near inedibility. Same meal, the confit duck leg was very dry
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect country house house with great staff and food.
Cons: All good
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The service was outstanding, the setting is idyllic and the food was of a very high standard. The room was smart and well presented with complimentary drinks on arrival. No detail has been overlooked. The menu changes daily allowing extended stays without tedium. The gardens are well tended and the geese are friendly. A key feature of the level of attention is the complimentary packed lunch available every day to residents. The selection of books and daily papers is good- and the road access and parking are easy.
Cons: We cannot find any feature for this section- Biggin Hall is an example of the best in all areas- five stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and helpful staff, lovely building and very good food, both breakfast and dinner were excellent. Room had a fridge with a complementary beer, small bottle of Prosecco and fresh milk! Even better a complementary picnic (choice of sandwiches, crisps, chocolate biscuit and bottle of water) was provided each day, meaning we could could go off walking without having to worry about where we would eat. The hotel is in a great location at the southern end of the Peak district (top of Dove Dale) with lovely walks right from the hotel or a short drive away. Biggin itself has a pub (which we didn't try as we were only staying two nights) or there are several more in Hartington which is only 2km away.
Cons: All good.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: A lovely, peaceful location, very friendly and helpful staff, great property, good sized, comfortable and very well appointed room with complementary bottles of beer, Prosecco and fresh milk. Oh, and a great breakfast with complimentary pack up for guests off out walking the Peak District. Just great attention to the little things that make the difference. A fantastic place to relax.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved everything about this hotel - the attentive staff, the lovely cosy bedroom in the cottage over looking the meadows, the relaxing atmosphere, the delicious dinners and breakfasts, beautiful old building sympathetically decorated, and the delightful gardens. This was our first time, but we’ll be back for sure. A fabulous place to unwind.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The friendly staff
Cons: Nothing - Perfect weekend away
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely loved the hotel - location, comfort, excellent food and ambience were all perfect. The little touches like the drinks in the fridge and the complementary packed lunch just added to our overall experience.

Cons: There just isn't anything not to like about this beautiful hotel with lovely surroundings and gardens.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. We actually changed rooms as it had been a very hot weekend and the staff did their best to find us an alternative and moved our belongings whilst we were out. Both rooms we stayed in were quiet, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very good with plenty of choice -freshly made coffee in a cafetière, a selection of fresh bread, fruit, croissants, a selection of cereals and a cooked breakfast made on the spot if you wished. It was lovely sitting outside with a cup of tea enjoying the view and the hotel is an easy walk into the centre. Parking was easy too so I'd highly recommend this hotel.

Pros: The Old Hall Hotel is conveniently located in Buxton, central to everywhere and bordered on two sides by parkland. It was unexpectedly quiet in our bedroom. Our room was clean and comfortable with a very comfortable bed. The bedroom had no fussy extras and tea and biscuits were much enjoyed. All the staff seemed to be local people who had a good knowledge of the hotel and around about. Breakfast each morning was a pleasure with a good choice of hot and cold food. The Hotel Wine Bar is a friendly place where good food is served throughout the day. We would recommend Buxton and The Old Hall Hotel to anyone who wanted a weekend away. So much to see and do.

Pros: Room good, dinner good, breakfast good. Nice spot on a quiet road junction. Plenty of parking around the back.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Inn Keepers Cottage was very good value for money for a family of 5. Staff friendly and food good.
Cons: Kept bedroom window open as it was warm but it was quite noise until around 1 am. This may be guests or locals congregating outside the pub and their voices in a quiet area travelled which kept us awake. It stopped when one crowd shifted on but started again with others afterward. The stairs are steep with little landing so may worry those with you get children especially if any sleep walk.

Pros: A lovely hotel in a nice setting opposite a park. Excellent breakfast and good parking. Although evening meals were not available, several pubs were close by, can highly recommend The Old Sun Inn for a good meal and a beer.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: the breakfast was fantastic. we both loved everything about the hotel, there are not many authentic bed and breakfast establishments around like the Westminster, homely. ok, some of the décor is a little tired but, we will go back. thankyou to all staff.
Cons: there was not a bar as such, just a fridge and a few cans on top. nothing was explained as to how we could go about having a drink had we wanted one, apart from that , was perfect.

Pros: Great breakfast. Quiet room.
Cons: Host/manager a little grumpy and not very welcoming.
6.7 Good
Pros: Very good breakfast
Cons: Lighting in the room ie wall lights to low to the bed if you sit up in bed you head butt the lights.Handle on toilet about to fall off, toilet seat would not stay up.Booked a lake view room we got a great view of the side of the building next door.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The breakfasts are first class and in a very good location.
Cons: Parking can be awkward but there is nothing they can do about it. The only negative we found was the man with the dread locks who was unhelpful and bordering on rude. he gave us a very bad first impression, shame because the other staff were fine.
7.5 Good
Pros: Bedroom was small but cosy. A good night's sleep. Breakfast was excellent with a very good selection of hot food and good service from the staff. The location of the hotel is excellent, a 5 min walk to the central attractions.
Cons: Car parking was difficult. The hotel has limited spaces for guests and they are a tight squeeze to navigate. We got there in the end. We felt that our welcome from the owner left a lot to be desired. A more cheerful approach on arrival would have made a difference. However this did not really affect what was, otherwise, a very pleasant stay.
6.7 Good
Pros: The location and the breakfast
Cons: The facilities are a bit old and we can hear the noise of the other bedrooms very easily

7.9 Good
Pros: Lovely old building
Cons: The cheek of having to pay to park the car at the hotel
6.7 Good
Pros: Central location, good price.
Cons: The hotel now charges £4 each for use of pool plus £1 for a towel! Parking is 4.50 a night. The new management seem to be cost cutting on basic quality, toilet provisions for example are very basic. Our room was still not serviced at 4pm on our second day which was disappointing after a long day walking. The pool water is also not as clear or as warm as it used to be. After using this hotel for at least 10 years we feel that it is on a downward slope which is a pitty.
6.7 Good
Pros: The staff were great, food very good, staff very helpful
Cons: The room was very small only just move around the bed, electric plugs not very accessible the bed was lumpy and not comfortable we had booked a superior room and if that was superior I dread to think what the compact room was !
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Parking is a reasonable cost. The loaction is good for the town.
Cons: Condition of the room was poor. No ventilation in the bathroom. Leaking radiator. Location of the room (back corridor in the hotel) corridor leading to the bedrooms very dirty and in poor condition (paintwork, loose wires, carpet) bed mattress was atrocious I have stayed at the hotel a few years ago and it was OK. I checked in very late 10:45pm. On this occasion it was the worst stay in a hotel i have had for many years. The room was dirty. It smelt of damp. Leaking radiator and the extract fan in the bathroom was blocked off. No ability to open the window as it was jammed shut. The mattress was the worst thing i have slept on. Every time you moved, the springs pinged and sounded awful and was very uncomfortable.. If it was not now past 11pm i would have checked out. In the morning asked to be moved but they could not offer any suitable alternative. The receptionist was polite but not really interested in customer service. I checked out after one night. The hotel may offer all the facilities to give a four star rating however, the quality is poor. Based on my experience, this is not a four star Hotel.
7.9 Good
Pros: Our room was an executive room which was large and had obviously been refurbished. It had a fabulous view and the hotel was located very close to the centre of Buxton. The hotel was a beautiful old building with loads of character. I was a little concerned regarding the review score when booking but I think that if you pay a little more for one of their higher end rooms (as we did) you will have a very enjoyable experience. At the end of the day you get what you pay for :)
Cons: We had actually booked a suite (separate bedroom and lounge due to my partner's insomnia) but upon check in were told that this was not available. It would have been good to know this in advance.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Duty manager Ben was very helpful. Reception area and stairs are impressive.
Cons: Very poor hot water pressure. So showers and bath of no use. Gym showers not very nice either. Workmen working outside our door with electric tools. Towels an extra £. Wi-Fi an extra. Female entry to pool a long cold walk on a wet staircase...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was friendly service, a very nice room and delicious breakfast! I would definitely stay again.
Cons: nothing
5.4 Okay
Pros: Comfortable bed Swimming pool and sauna
Cons: This hotel does not deserve the 4 stars ranking. I had to struggle to get hot water in the bathroom and it took nearly 20 minutes to obtain hot water. This system dates back to Georgian Times. It should be replaced urgently. I stayed 4 nights and after 2 nights my card suddenly became deactivated... Without any particular reason. Above all, this hotel should be entirely refreshed repaired and redecorated.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The ambiance and architecture. Also the beds were spotless.
Cons: My room was not as advertised...it was much smaller. The furniture was shabby and needed repair.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Buffet style, cooked element v good, constantly replenished. Fresh fruit selection poor, only tinned peaches and prunes offered. Your yellow/green bar below is patronising me!
Cons: Bathroom window (room 326) was screwed shut and there was no extractor fan. I'm seeing that patronising bar again! Bar closes too early for guests returning from dinner in town
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location, right next to all the amenities of town. The staff were very friendly, good atmosphere at the hotel.
Cons: Some aspects of the hotel required some updating, for example lots of cracked tiles in the bathroom and some areas of tired looking decor.

Pros: The room decor was brilliant and everything was really clean including the bathroom, they even gave us some fresh milk for tea in the fridge and the staff were really nice and helpful.
Cons: No hot water for the shower which unfortunatley ruined the whole experience for us, plus on the sunday morning when we wanted to go nice and early there were no staff members around to ask for help.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: we had room only
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our room was big and clean with lovely crisp sheets and a fantastic view. The location was great and perfect price for a cheap night away.
Cons: We almost turned around when we first got to the hotel because it looks run down from the outside. It really wouldn’t take much to get the hotel smiling again, paint the entrances and clear all the weeds away. Such a delightful hotel!
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Very good location. Close to most attractions in Peak District. Walking distance to the town centre.
Cons: Old , dusty, smelly carpets everywhere. From the moment you step in you can smell it. Every corner and edge in the room and bathroom are filthy . Old , ripped , torn curtains. Walls and ceiling was painted a 100 years ago. Place definitely need renovation!!
5.0 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: Although the property was old, it lacks cleanliness. Particularly all windows of the building including the room window was not clean from outside and inside. This gives bad impression.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: I enjoyed the quirky nature of the hotel: the photos of old film stars collections of old toys, good bar, stained glass windows and general air of faded grandeur.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location was very good, being a short walk through the park to the town centre. The room itself was nice in the early evening as we had the sun. Overlooking a garden area. A nice friendly welcome from the owner/manager or whoever it was on reception when we arrived.
Cons: There didn't seem to be any option for breakfast, i'm not sure why. The overall impression I had was of a traditional hotel that was perfectly comfortable and adequate for a short stay but which could do with a little refurbishment, however, this is obviously reflected in the price. . Black mould around part of the shower seal and a bit of a musty smell. Bathrooms could have done with a bit of an overhaul all round.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place
Cons: N/a
5.0 Okay
Pros: proximity manager nice friendly helpful on booking in
Cons: Oh dear. I'm not happy to be scathing. We moved out - didn't stay - just left the keys at the desk. One tipping point was the very desiccated previously fat moth which in fairness was only exposed when i moved the twin beds together. I thought the bed clothes smelt of old bed clothes but my girlfriend pointed out that it was only the duvet cover that hadn't been washed for eons. In any case i didn't want to bury my nose in it. The Johnny Depp photos plastered on every wall did little to detract from this overall perception ;-) . I'd firstly recommend a good carpet shampooing throughout the whole building. (Maybe my poor moth got stuck to it?) I didn't ask for a refund. We just moved out and were fortunate enough to get a cheap late booking after i left my girlfriend wondering where i was going - when i suddenly walked out of the (excellent) thai restaurant (before the banana fritter) to walk up to that spa hotel on the hill and book in. This cost me only 49 quid! Along with the wasted 58 quid i thought that total wasn't too bad for a good night's sleep in pseudo luxury. It really is a bit of a pity that an excellent obviously previously top class hotel - remnant of bygone days (evidenced by the lovely old RAC two-star sign hanging outside) in this lovely spa city is allowed to deteriorate . (Oh and if you're listening booking.com i wouldn't mind a partial credit - sshhh)
7.5 Good
Pros: The beds were comfy!
Cons: Very old and dated. Rooms smelt a little musty!
2.9 Mediocre
Cons: In desperate need of a good clean & major refurbishment
