Cons: There is a steep staircase which might be tricky for someone less physically able

Pros: Our children loved playing in the garden. The proprietors were very welcoming, and made excellent recommendations for places to have dinner (the crêperie very close by is excellent). The room was very clean and comfortable. Very tasty locally made fresh croissants and pain au chocolat were brought in for breakfast.

Pros: Isobel was an outstanding host. Her house was filled with beautiful furniture and she made our stay very comfortable. The room on the top level of the house had an airy open loft feel to it, with exposed wood and high ceilings. She gave an excellent dinner recommendation and prepared a beautiful breakfast for us to enjoy in the main dining room. Thank you Isobel for sharing your home and your time. We will be sure to stay again if ever in the area.

Pros: Charming mid-France stop over en route to the south. Would merit an extended stay in its own right with easy walking access to the town of Chateauroux. The house is very comfortable and quiet while the hosts, Jean-Paul and Chantal, cannot do enough for their visitors making them feel part of their home.

Pros: Jean-Paul and Chantal were extremely welcoming. We were two couples and had booked both the rooms which were charming and very comfortable. Air con was very welcome on such a hot night and we all had a fabulous sleep. Was lovely to have a dip in the 32 degree swimming pool on arrival after our long journey and breakfast on the terrace in the morning. We used as an overnight stop to Dordogne - would definitely like to return on a future trip. Thank you both for having us.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: We booked an evening meal at the property which was good quality and value at 20euros each including wine. We dined with other guests staying which was quite an interesting mix of nationalities and languages. The swimming pool was a nice treat and the hosts were friendly. Convenient stopover on our journey south (not far from the autoroute).
Cons: There was a basic clothes rack for hanging your clothes at one end of the bedroom rather than a cupboard. The breakfast wasn't great (quite sparse).
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The supper, with all the guests. Cooked and served by the lovely family
Cons: The pool was freezing !

Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful. We were travelling with friends, but unfortunately they could not be accommodated. However the proprietors were pleased to let them share an evening meal with us. It was excellent and the massive thunderstorm which started half way through did not faze them at all. Also it was prawns for the main course which my husband cannot eat they quickly without fuss brought him something else.
Cons: Tea and coffee making facilities in the room would have been nice but did not spoil our stay
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were very clean. Comfy bed and quiet location. Our host was wonderful

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Clean modern rooms and travel location
Cons: Terrible service in restaurant high price for water. Room shutters permanently down made rooms dark and claustrophobic.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very comfortable room
Cons: No restaurant Sunday evening not obvious when you book. Workmen drilling under our room at 8.00am
6.7 Good
Pros: The room was great due to my wife’s mobility.
Cons: The first room wasn’t good but quickly changed.
5.4 Okay
Pros: What can be said about stopover places like this? You book them for convenience only, when you are tired from driving and need a bed. You do not expect an unforgettable experience and generally do not return. Relais Saint Jacques is no exception. Staff was friendly and prepared a snack upon our late arrival, although the kitchen had already closed. Good breakfast with friendly staff as well.
Cons: Although the place looks rather new, it already bears the traces from poor cleaning / bad maintenance: mold in the bathroom but even worse smelly bedlinen that really ruined our night’s sleep. No adequate response from the reception staff. When considering the really fantastic chambres d’hotes we stayed in during our holiday, stopping at an overpriced place like this was a poor decision. But then again: you essentially know this beforehand. Apparently, there is still sufficient consumer demand for this facility type.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Room nice. Restaurant good.
Cons: Location. You need to drive anywhere. There are much better stop off locations if you are travelling through France
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean. Evening meal amazing also local wine. Will definitely be back
9.2 Excellent
Pros: good food and bar. There was a function on the same evening which was a shame as we couldn't sit outside. but otherwise was great - perfect location for the motorway. Clearly been recently refurbished and it all looked great.
Cons: Access to outside - when you've been in the car for 8 hours and it's sunny outside you really want to be able to sit outside.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A modern hotel with excellent food, well proportioned rooms, friendly staff etc
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location superb - just off a main route Facilities are excellent - a swimming poll has been added since our last stay in Sept 2018 Food absolutely stunning Superb wine list, although a bit expensive
Cons: Service in restaurant was diabolical that evening due to several staff calling in sick. Have stayed several times in the past & usually excellent as would warrant a 5* hotel. Complained to manager who hadn't got a plan B for this scenario. Food excellent as always.

Pros: A fabulous family owned chateau. Can imagine that is has been the same for years, a lovely feel about the place. The owner was a hoot and made our stay highly memorable and he is a great cook.. no menu, just ate what he had prepared with local produce and drank lovely wine!!
Cons: Nothing!

Pros: Large, 19th century Châteaux with freedom to wander internally and in the large grounds. Very friendly owners and excellent evening meal, served on the terrace. Breakfast was also good and served in a nice dining area. The other guests were lovely dining company.
Cons: We arrived after a long journey and would have liked a cold drink. We did not find the opportunity to get one. This can easily be corrected but I think it is worth flagging up for the owners.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: A wonderful Chateau that preserved much of its old fashion and atmosphere. Our very spacious room had a balcony with view over the grounds. The very friendly and relaxed host served a marvelous breakfast with home-made or local jams, honeys, cheese and fruit juices. Not a moment did I miss scrambled eggs or bacon with this continental breakfast :-)
Cons: As long as you do not expect modern amenities like an elevator or air-conditioning you will enjoy a very fine stay in style.

Cons: The tap in our bathroom sink didn't work very well...no big deal.

6.3 Good
Pros: The grounds were lovely. Fresh local produce Fascinating furnishings Colas was very welcoming.

Cons: Underground parking access was narrow and difficult. Location in one way town centre streets was difficult to find and get out of.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It is a very professional operation there including wonderful breakfast
Cons: Nothing
7.9 Good
Cons: Bathroom was unsafe for the elderly, the shower especially , was short of handrails to enable safety. The toilet would also be more acceptable if there was a handrail to assist standing.other than the that the bathroom was ok.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Clean fresh rooms. Helpful staff. Secure underground Parking. Central location.
Cons: Slightly odd, as you enter via a flight of stairs into a run down shopping mall. But once you're inside all is fine. Common areas such as corridors could do with a facelift.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location, centre of town, good bakery next door for breakfast.
Cons: parking is fine, but very tight underground car park
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Bedroom and twin beds were perfect. Breakfast was as good as always at Ibis hotels

Cons: Staff reception at all times during day/afternoon Answer telephone calls
7.5 Good
Pros: Location was good just off the motorway and it was close to places to eat.
Cons: Rooms looked like they needed updating and the bathroom smelled a bit damp
5.8 Okay
Pros: Their usual standard. But there does not seem to be a choice of coffee for breakfast.
Cons: The site is very confusing. There are 2 B&B hotels on the site on opposite sides of the road. Having arrived before 5.00 pm I rang the phone near the door of one of them to be told I was at the airport hotel. The man was not sure exactly as he was at the help desk in Paris. I was left totally confused
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Ideal location as a half way stop. Lots of eating places, petrol stations, and a supermarket nearby. Clean, tidy and convenient.
5.8 Okay
Pros: It was easy to find, and had several restaurants within a few minutes walk
Cons: I know you get what you pay for, but the room was absolutely tiny. You couldn’t both walk around in it at the same time, one had to sit on the bed. We have stayed in four overnight hotels on this trip, all roughly the same price, and all much better.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location near to motorway and good amenities close by like restaurants and supermarket.
Cons: Nothing, good value for money.
4.6 Okay
Pros: Bed was comfy.
Cons: Smell of drains in shower room. Man on reception (when there) was unfriendly. Had to self checkin. No kettle etc in room.

Pros: Very good and friendly staff. Good food.
6.7 Good
Pros: Very friendly checkin staff. Great communication. Location and price. Bedroom had a modern air conditioning unit.
Cons: Run down exterior. Dated interior.
7.5 Good
Pros: The hotel has recently undergone a change of ownership, so we are using this as a yardstick. Friendly welcoming staff. We were using the hotel as a single overnight stay. The outside of the hotel is dated and in need of a re-paint. Some foyer items need replacing, BUT, our room was lovely and clean, spacious enough for two people and better than many of the motel type chains. Very comfortable bed, we had a good long, undisturbed sleep. There is a restaurant there but we like to explore for meals, so did not have dinner or breakfast. We wish the new owners success with their hotel, but they need to crack on with the re-furb' issues. Will stay again next year on our trip back to Spain and look for improvements.
Cons: Outside paintwork and lifting vinyl in the lobby.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff and very clean good for a stopover
Cons: The restaurant was closed at weakends and no resturant in walking distance
7.1 Good
Pros: Okay for overnight
Cons: Location
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was fine bearing in mind the price. Good to see alternatives to croissants and bread and cereals for breakfast. I had eggs, cold meat and cheese as I can't eat cereals and sugar etc.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Pleasant man on reception - I felt sorry for him working in such a mediocre hotel.
Cons: Very noisy fellow guests, very poor build quality, elderly and squeaky beds and what sounded like an entire kennel of dogs very nearby.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfast - good value. Easy parking. Only a short distance from town. Ideal location for us for a one night stay on way back from Pyrenees.
Cons: Bathroom - a bit small, dull lighting, shower curtain! A liitle bit 'tired' overall but appears to be being dealt with.
5.4 Okay
Pros: It was clean and the staff helpful and friendly
Cons: Location - the hotel is several miles from Chateauroux. The nearest restaurant is a 10 minute drive. There is a restaurant on site but you need to book in the morning and I. The evening even though there is technically a bar, there were no staff to man it.
7.1 Good
Pros: This is probably the closest hotel to the C.N.T.S the French National Shooting Centre so ideal for competitors. Facilities are basic but what you would expect for the price.
Cons: Better facilities for money perhaps and make breakfast inclusive.

3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Food was excellent
Cons: No coffee making facilities in the room
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Wondearful staff. Quirky rooms. Just lovely.
Cons: No car park but plenty of parking opposite and on the roads.
6.7 Good
Cons: We stayed on a Sunday night and the restaurant was closed - as were most restaurants in the town. Finding food was very difficult! They should warn you when you book if the restaurant is going to be closed.
7.5 Good
Pros: Excellent service in restaurant and superb meal.
Cons: Room was very basic.
7.0 Good
Cons: Food in the restaurant, noise from the main road outside, decor rather tired.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable, room quite small, bathroom tiny, hardly room to sit on WC. All very clean Good breakfast
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The food was excellent, the staff were so kind and helpful, could not do enough for us. We had an evening meal in a lovely little courtyard out the back, lovely atmosphere. Lovely owners!
Cons: Unfortunately, we were on a cycle tour and arrived here in France's heatwave having cycled in 40 degrees and there was no air-conditioning, however there was a fan in the room.
5.7 Okay
Pros: A basic, functional hotel: very handy if you're travelling across France and need somewhere to stop overnight that won't break the bank. The town is actually really appealing: a normal, non touristy, working French town. There's a good pizza place by the Intermarche on the outskirts of town.
Cons: The place was clean without being immaculate - there was a slight nicotine smell in our room.
6.7 Good
Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful

7.5 Good
Pros: Superb and generous breakfast. Charming and very helpful hosts. Interesting house with spacious bedroom. Excellent shower. Our evening meal was also excellent and good value.
Cons: The rain prevented us from exploring the extensive grounds.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Welcomed with a drink from the owner.
Cons: Bettter directions.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner has starting cooking again after a few years gap and the food was fantastic. Nightingale sang all night adding to the charm.
Cons: I have to admit that the owner has got a bit of Basil about him and this could upset some people, but if you go with the flow it adds to the experience of staying at this wonderful place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything, food, drinks, quietness
7.3 Good
Pros: We liked the relaxation , the ambience of the Chateau and Fabian added that extra touch. Reminding us of that lovable character "Manuel"

Pros: Close to main road so good location for a basic stop over on the way South.
Cons: Mezzanine floor in family room not really suitable for very young children.

Pros: comfortable room, bed was a good size, coffee maker was just what we needed after a 400 mile drive from the UK, it was the ideal over night stop on our 2 week holiday to the south of France, It is a good half way break on our trip and we have made Chatearoux our regular rondavue for many years now.

2.9 Mediocre
Cons: We found fleas from the room! There was an alive flea in the room when we arrived that we initially dismissed as an error and thought it's a different bug. But in the morning there was a dead flea on my pillow. After searching the room we found 2 more. Eeek! After this the hotel promised to give us a 50% refund which never arrived. A complete scam, avoid this hotel!
5.0 Okay
Cons: It's a bit shabby overall. The staff were pretty offhand. No garage or shed to put my bike. Breakfast at 9 euros was indifferent.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Comfortable bed
Cons: Falsely advertised as 24h check in. Turned up to find a note on the door with a number to call. Phone battery was dead and there was no bell to ring and nobody answered knocks on the door. I wasted time at 3am trying to find somewhere to charge my phone so I could call the number. When I did eventually get there the manager reluctantly let me in, did not apologise, and was generally just rude.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: No aircon as advertised, nor lovely little garden area to sit in. Noisy. Very small lift but only after 2 flights of stairs - not easy for the older person carrying suitcases. Only 2 of the 4 lights in the room worked - could all do with a good clean... Skirting boards, shower edges etc. Such a tiny shower my husband couldn't use it. Poor and very dated decor and furniture old and worn. Who uses blankets anymore? Refused to lend us a bowl for dogs water. Man on reception very casually dressed and not at all friendly or helpful. Location not walking distance to any eateries or bars and we were put off eating on the premises as there seemed only 1 or 2 people doing everything.
7.1 Good
Pros: This is a perfectly good overnight stop on a budget. The room was more than adequate and clean. Wifi faded at times but acceptable. Breakfast of pastries, cereal, ham and cheese etc was more than adequate
Cons: Dated decor. Faulty bath fittings
4.6 Okay
Pros: Hotel parking available, not too far from the city centre.
Cons: Very outdated room with tiny bathroom, stated that reception is 24 hours however, when we got to the hotel the door was locked and we had to call someone to let us in. Upon checkout once again we had to wait 15min for someone to come to reception. We had very noisy people next door and you could hear everything which was really unpleasant. Wouldn't recommend.
7.5 Good
Pros: kind staff and good breakfast
Cons: Shower cabin was quite small. It smelled a little of smoke in the room
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: The man at reception
Cons: Advert said it was in the centre of town it wasn’t it was a good twenty minute walk which with a tired four year old is not possible. After a ten hour drive we then had to get back in the car to find somewhere to eat
5.0 Okay
Pros: functional hotel, you get what you pay for. staff tried hard to rectify our issues when we raised them
Cons: cleanliness could be improved

6.3 Good
Pros: The shower was good, beds were comfortable and nice and quiet. Was clean but old.
Cons: A bit surreal. Not what we expected from the pics and overpriced I would say. Very odd setup, but we embraced it. Disappointed as no facility to heat baby milk in the evening, in fact no facilities whatsoever in the evening. No paperwork or information in the room etc.
4.2 Okay
Pros: Nothing
Cons: I wouldnt choose to stay here again. It is amazing what you can do with a camera. I have stayed in much better places for half the price that this hotel. How it can get away with calling the place a hotel i dont know. Very expensive for what it is.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Rooms large. Bathroom God but no shampoo, took ages to get shower temp right.
Cons: Rooms dark and veryou old fashioned. I did not sleep a wink. Noise from outside. View of car park rubbish. Fan in bedroom too noisy to use.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Bed was comfy
Cons: Better communication with owner
6.7 Good
Pros: Very convenient to city centre. Secure parking available 2100 - 0700.
Cons: It was not clear from the website entry that the restaurant was closed on Sunday. The only stipulation was “closed from 1400 on Saturday”. We arrived on Sunday and had to find a restaurant in the city centre. Also, it is not clear from the website that there is no manned reception when the restaurant is closed, but that you have to contact the owner by phone on arrival. This info is displayed in the restaurant window. The owner lives close by and responds promptly. For this reason we feel this accommodation may not suit those who do not have a good grasp of French, both spoken and written.
7.9 Good
Pros: The proprietors were very friendly and kind. They gave us a fantastic, huge and delicious French breakfast, great value for money! The room was very comfortable.
Cons: The location could have been better, as the hotel was not close to restaurants, or the interesting parts of Chateauroux.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect for what we were looking for.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was fine and good value for money. Staff were friendly.
Cons: Room only had one window which looked directly onto pavement but we managed fine as there was an air conditioning unit in the room.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The owner spoke a little English and I less French, and we got by just fine. Comfy bed and ensuite bathroom with a real bath! Quiet location, a little far from the station but certainly walkable (15-20 mins?) Dinner and breakfast provided at the restaurant attached to the property, both at very reasonable prices.
7.1 Good
Pros: The price and the food in the restaurant
Cons: The pillows
