Cape Town Hostels

Pros: Location is awesome - it is very close to Waterfront, Long Street, Mama Africa cafe. Nice breakfast (yogurt, fruits, toasts with jam etc)

Cons: It is pretty cold in the lobby where the breakfast is served so take a coat. It is only during winter when I came actually

Pros: Great place and great staff. Staff were always helpful. The breakfast is excellent for a hostel and mattresses are very comfortable. Location is also closer to shops and restaurants. I will definitely recommend 91 Loop. See you soon

Cons: The male public toilet near the reception had a strong pee smell. At some point it seemed as if blacks were separated from the whites in terms of rooming.

Pros: Clean and safe, comfortable beds, at a very affordable price, right in the middle of downtown.

Pros: I stayed for a week. The staff was very nice and helped me book a one-day tour. It was located in the city center and surrounded by restaurants. Breakfast was not bad.

Pros: The beds are comfortable. There was always hot water for the shower. The WiFi is decent and the communal area downstairs is cool and vibey.

Cons: 91 Loop is situated in the heart of the CBD, and can therefore be noisy till late night and even early morning. This is understandably not within the control of the venue. Also, to avoid disappointment, take note that the free breakfast that is included is a CONTINENTAL breakfast, which means Cereals, Bread (Toaster is broken) and Juice or Coffee. Anything else such as Eggs, Bacon and Sausage is extra.

Pros: Great people, really well located

Pros: I like the location of the backpackers. Very close to the waterfront and Seapoint. They are also environmentally friendly and we were constantly reminded to save water etc.

Cons: The bath room is very neat but too small. I had to walk to the kitchen to make a cup of coffee or tea.

Pros: Kind owner who helped me get an idea of my itinerary, even helped me with cashback when I couldn’t withdraw. Breakfast was perfect, the hostel hikes were great, and after a very scary start to Cape Town having come from long street, I could successfully start my trip . My room was close to a shared hotel room with single beds and an en-suite. Love when a hostel gives fresh coffee on the morning. Beautiful location and premises. So many chill spots, wonderful bar where I could even get 2 for 1 at start of each evening. So comfortable and wonderful. Finally felt safe to walk alone during the day which was a first for me during CT

Pros: I stayed at this hostel for about a week. Got to meet a lot of young and cool people. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. The location is great and the hostel is known among the locals, which helps a lot. I had a great experience!

Cons: The only down side is that it seemed that the system they use to keep guests information, such as check ins, payments and upgrades, does not work very well since they constantly kept having issues with it and I had to keep explaining myself over again on whatever situation mentioned previously.

Pros: The hostel is conveniently located in Green Point and next to a few restaurants. The check in was smooth and the staff generally welcoming.

Cons: I took the garden room with en-suite. Garden meaning that you cannot open the curtains unless you want everybody in the common areas to see you. The wires of the bedroom lamps were cut, the safe was closed (I didn't ask to open it) and I only realized before going to bed that the door on the garden was left unlocked. My fault on not checking before leaving in the afternoon, but you would expect the staff to leave it locked I guess. In general the room was not cozy at all and the moquette floor, linen and curtains didn't give much of a cleaniness impression. It was a saturday night, so the noise curfew wasn't really respected, it didn't bother me that much because I was dead tired and fell asleep anyway, but one should note it. I was disappointed by the breakfast and check out; no one at the reception before 8am so I couldn't leave early because they had to open the gate to take the car out. I had a coffee, but the 'included breakfast' was basically non existent besides some butter, jam and milk. No bread to be found. All in all those are all things that I was ok to cope with for that one night, but in perspective it's not acceptable for the price I paid.

Cons: The same breackfast everyday, the dorm is near the entrance, kitchen and bathrooms so is noisy. The swimming pool did not work.

Pros: Close to everything, comfortable stay, delicious breakfast, overall a good stay.

Cons: Reserved a parking but parking was already taken.

Cons: Can be very loud at night, (3 or 4am) with people shouting and talking very loudly at night outside Impossible not to be woken up by this which leads to a feeling of fatigue the next day.

Pros: Its lowseason so it was pretty quiet at the backpack. But had a lot of fun with the people who where there. Also close to all the hotspots.

Cons: Unfortunately it was fellow guests NOT tidying up after themselves in the kitchen was the most annoying!

Pros: We stayed in the apartment. Location is great. The view is amazing! Staff is very friendly and have great info about the city. Great thing about the apartment is the secured parking underneath the building. We will come back some day!

Cons: That the coffee and tea were not there in the mornings like it use to be.

Pros: Although I visited the hostel out of season, there were always things to do. We got a lot of advices, nice breakfast, relaxing next to the swimming pool and the chance to meet nice staff. You can reach the main places easily by Uber.

Pros: The people at the backpackers were great! We had such a good time there due to them!

Pros: The staff is great, they are nice and can help you to organize your activities. The bar is nice and you can meet people.

Cons: There was no heater, not even a small electric one, was very cold.

Pros: Really comfy beds, centrally located, super clean and nice bathroom, safe and secure lockers for large luggage and for gadgets by bed (with a plug socket in the locker which was great!). Free activities seemed great but I didn't have time to join.

Cons: Stayed here on saturday and sunday night, was super busy on saturday night as the hostel is connected to a bar so it was quite noisy (music stopped at 10pm though)

Cons: You can hear music from the bar from the room when trying to sleep.

Pros: What a wonderful hostel, very near, but still in a very good and quite neighborhood to the famous Long Street and Green Market. Table Mountain, Camps Bay and the other top places in Cape Town are cheap and easy to drive to by uber. The people at the hostel are very friendly and they like to help, just ask them for an uber to go to the place you want to see, or just join one of the free acctivities every day. Pros: The staff was very kind and helpful, always willing and happy to help with anything. The beds are comfortable beds and the linen is very good. The bar in front is a good place to start a night out and the neighborhood has lots of other nightlife spots. The activities promoted/suggested by the hostel are also good so there is no sitting around and doing nothing, unless you wan't to do so.

Cons: One thing I didn't like was the fact that our window - bedroom and bathroom - faced the upstairs bar that gets very busy and noisy in the evening. The bar closes around 10 pm though, so it wasn't that big of an issue. The other thing was the lighting: the room was pretty dark.

Pros: Loved staying there! There are free activities every single day and it is easy to make friends. I met some fantastic people. The staff is very friendly and helpful, always trying to help out and making sure you have a good time. Also I enjoyed breakfast there.

Cons: Plan to do laundry early enough as it might take more than 1 day. It is also very noisy in the evening, there is no day people dont party here. Make sure to bring earplugs. Towels are not always available.

Pros: For our honeymoon, my husband and I stayed in Once in Capetown's private room with an ensuite bathroom and a mountain view and absolutely loved our stay! The staff was super helpful, enthusiastic, and went out of their way to make our time there special. The room was quiet and separated from the nightlife with a card activated door, and the view was stunning when the sun rose the morning after we arrived. We loved the location and easily walked to long street and downtown multiple times during our stay. We also had good meals at the in-house facility as well as the neighboring restaurants and particularly enjoyed our meals at Arnold's right across the street. Highly recommend and would happily stay here again!

Cons: Lobby ATM frequently ran out of money, but seemed to be refilled pretty quickly, and there were other's nearby on the same street. I guess this could really be a testament to how much fun people were having at the house bars.

Pros: I booked for 2 days and stayed for 2 weeks. Great location and lovely rooms. Don't judge the area as this is a well kept secret when you enter and see the special touch that Management has done to make this an special location. Would recommend it !!

Pros: Failed to find the place on my GPS. As a result I learnt to reach it very fast and was easy to find the place from all places that I drove to. My only consent was the Bathrooms only otherwise.

Cons: Website photographs need updating and people that do not know Cape Town, need to be informed about the exact area. I hired a vehicle and I was unfortunately worried that something would happen because of the area. I read that if you need to go into town, you should catch the train and sit in the 1st class at the front. When we were there, a person was told not to catch the train. I have stayed in many backpackers around the world and in South Africa, but this was unfortunately one that I would not recommend again. Showers and toilets not in a great state. Woke up Monday morning and dustbins in kitchen were covered in flies and possibly maggots in the organic bin. Not something you want to see if you go to make breakfast/coffee in the morning. Place is starting to go backwards with regards to International backpackers standards.

Pros: The owners&staff made great efforts to welcome guests and keep their facilities top notch,which they succeeded in doing.It was great to be able to park the hire car securely.There is another security gate at the entrance to the area,so security really tops.I liked the kitchen facilities.The bedroom was also great. There were views of Groote Shur,Cape Town University green campus and I think Table Mountain from West side(so you don’t see the table,but still a great view.)

Cons: Like many places,the Wi-fi wasn’t free after the first 1000gb=about three hours of fairly heavy use.On the other hand to top up an extra 1000gb was about £1,not a great expense either
