Overview

The Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel is located in downtown Chattanooga in the old terminal station, parts of which were built before the Civil War. The surrounding area and the terminal were set to be demolished in 1973 but the terminal was saved and underwent a $4 million renovation, reopening as a hotel on April 11 1973. In 1974 the hotel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. 46 years later the hotel provides comfortable rooms located in unique Pullman Train Cars and traditional rooms.

Guests staying at The Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel can stay in The MacArthur building named for the last steam powered freight train to arrive at the station on June 17, 1953. Rooms have recently been renovated with spacious king beds, free WiFi, plenty of USB ports, and refrigerators. For a true unique experience stay in one of the original Pullman Train Cars dating from the 30s, 40s, and 50s.

Rooms are updated with all the modern convenience such as free WiFi, desk with comfortable chair, mini fridge, and coffee maker. All guests can enjoy the heated in door pool, shuttle services, and the 11,000 square foot dog park which provides guests with a self service grooming station filled with grooming tools, shampoo, and fluffy towels.

The Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel has a pour your own beer hall. American Draft is located in a historic train car where guests can choose from 29 draft beers exclusively American brewed, and proudly representing all regions of the U.S.A.. The Frothy Monkey offers breakfast and brunch selections all day using farm fresh ingredients.

The hotel is under renovation, so no pool at the time. Train cars for lodging may be available 11/2023, but all are surrounded by chain link construction fencing now. Great location; easy to travel with free city electric shuttles.

Pros (+) Good location with nice restaurants nearby.
Cons (-) Poor quality linen makes loud noise at night. One person's turn will wake up the rest of the family. Terribly small bathroom; the door opens toward the toilet leaving no room for a parent and a kid. Old, peeling tub. Thin wall and doors. You can head clearly every word of people chatting in the hallway. Will not stay again.

Pros (+) The grounds were a sight to see, especially decked out for Christmas -- pretty gardens, ice skating, beautiful main building with its restored foyer -- all near Warehouse Row and right beside the free electric shuttle buses.
Cons (-) The non-train-car rooms were outdated, with extremely thin doors and walls, and the hardest beds I've ever slept on - the floor would at least have been supportive while being just as hard. No complementary breakfast; the breakfast buffet, while open, is $10/person plus beverages and tip.

Pros (+) Nice location. Nice landscaping
Cons (-) Rooms are old and dirty. The shower had hair sitting in the bottom of the drain upon our arrival. The bed was very uncomfortable. The room walls must be made of paper because noise carries very well, and the other guests were loud. Pros (+) Price was decent and the location was good being I was going to be in downtown the entire trip. Staff was nice and helpful.
Cons (-) Standard room had a strange smell to it, like mildew or something. Random, cheap pictures of train related images on the walls. I bought a candy bar from the machine and just the heat from the machine itself made the bar melt and not really worth eating.

Pros (+) Great location in fun area. Front desk staff was pleasant when we arrived. Patio outside the room.
Cons (-) Very run down facilities. Black mold around the air vent, peeling paint in the room. Seemed dingy overall. They didn't tell us about the $7 parking fee until we checked out. Very overpriced for the condition and quality of the hotel. (We paid $121)
