5.0 Okay
Pros: The property looks magnificent from outside. The furnishings look good, but as they say "All that glitters is not gold"! Such a disappointment. There is a good chip shop up the road, which we really enjoyed.
Cons: There was no tea or coffee available. The bed was the most uncomfortable bed I have ever had the misfortune of trying to sleep in. The tap in the bathroom was wobbly and I feared that it would break. We saw no one from the time we waited to check in to when we checked out. We heard the other guests during the night. The wifi did not work. I am glad we did not pay extra for breakfast as I could see the bread rolls waiting to be eaten the night before!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely old grand house with spacious comfortable rooms. The house is set in spacious gardens in a small village. The room was well appointed and spotlessly clean. The staff were friendly and parking was very convenient.
Cons: Everything was very good.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Loverly building nice location
Cons: The bloody great RAT running through the dinning room
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Second visit here. Very comfortable spacious rooms and shower rooms. Parking. Breakfast good This time we had a room overlooking the gardens at the back - very peaceful
Cons: WiFi- couldn’t access at all from our second floor room. Restaurant closed - we’d had an excellent meal there last September. As they advertise the restaurant shouldn’t it be made clear when it’s closed. Breakfast good though not as well organised as last year. Had to ask for glasses, plates and cups.

Pros: Not applicable
Cons: The building needs renovation.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, comfortable and easy to locate.
Cons: No staff readily unavailable in the morning.
4.6 Okay
Pros: Ample parking, although it was not completely secure and this was a pre-requisite for our selection.
Cons: NO BREAKFAST AND NO ADVANCED WARNING THAT THERE WOULD BE NOTHING. No Tea or Coffee, absolutely nothing, just a room.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: It looked pretty from the outside
Cons: The bedspread and cushions were filthy There was no cover on the quilt so we could only use the sheet No help with our bags and we were out at the very top of the house when it was obvious that this was going to be difficult for us
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good overnight stay. The room was large and well furnished, We were let in by a concierge, who then left and it seemed like we were the only people in the place. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom well equipped.
Cons: Although it is not the hotel's fault there was a dog who barked ceaselessly from just after 7am, waking us up, until we left which was very disturbing. The manoiir is opposite a large factory and there is a fair amount of noise from that and the road.

Cons: On arrival we had to wait for 20 minutes in the cold and only gained entry after several phone calls. They finally gave us the entry code to get in. There was a kettle, one tea bag which was fruit and no milk on either day. After the two nights and on the day we were leaving We had nowhere to stay until 1.00 the staff member was unhelpful did not offer advice and told us bluntly you were closed. 8.8 Excellent
Pros: Clean, comfortable bed. Good breakfast. Great value for money.
Cons: For a non smoking room, it smelt of smoke, had a cigarette burn on the bed and the sink. The toilet seat was broken.
Overview Reviews
See hotel page In Douai, in the North, the hospitality is warm. For Catherine Rollion, manager of The Originals City, Hotel Le Gayant, Douai, warmth and authenticity are closely linked. The bigger picture, customer satisfaction. This comes from efficiency, care, attentiveness and availability. Catherine takes care of everything. And her 3 star, 43 room hotel is a reflection of her character. Great simplicity, a true quality, at all times. And always with a smile.
7.9 Good
Pros: Lovely, helpful receptionist. Decent price. Clean rooms with separate "annex" for the children's bunk beds. Secure, gated parking. Convenient for Calais, which is about an hour and a half away. Easy to find on edge of town.
Cons: Don't think there's a lift - I couldn't find one, but I didn't ask.
6.7 Good
Pros: Rooms where good and very clean but the whole place lacked atmosphere
Cons: No fridge in rooms no air conditioner or fan so a little stuffy
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good hotel for a reasonable price. Rooms are modern, good and clean. Breakfast was OK. For business purposes it's recommendable and close to the city center.
Cons: Bar closes at 10pm and limited choices.
7.9 Good
Pros: Well located ,this hotel suited our purposes very well. The staff were very welcoming and went out of their way to accommodate additional requests. We especially enjoyed the comfortable bed and its room's accessibility. the parking immediately adjacent to the front door was also a bonus. The breakfast was plentiful and well prepared.
Cons: The bath/shower were difficult to access, and the controls were dated. With limited space replacing the stand in bath/shower with a new shower unit would improve access and security; The breakfast would be improved by a hot water bath for boiling eggs.
6.0 Good
Pros: We used this hotel for one night on the drive to Germany and it suited our purposes as it was comfortable, had a private car park and was close to the motorway. Breakfast was very good and offered a wide selection.
Cons: Bedroom and bathroom were very small but clean and comfortable. The hotel is out of the centre and does not have a restaurant which meant a short but not very pleasant walk to find the restaurant recommended by the hotel for our evening meal. Our walk around Douai showed it to be very grubby and run down, with lots of empty shops etc apart from the small area in the centre around the church and belfry.
7.1 Good
Pros: The breakfast was excellent, with fresh fruit, which I love. The lady at reception in the evening was very helpful, recommending a nearby restaurant, where I got a good evening meal. Same lady was on duty in the morning, and handled my bill efficiently. She also made sure my bicycle was stored in a safe place near reception. This is a good hotel and the pluses listed here, as well as the general facilities, far outweigh the minor minuses listed below, which I mention only because the questionnaire asks for them.
Cons: This hotel is some way out of the centre, which made it difficult to meet up with my friends who were staying at a different hotel. When I first arrived, getting in was quite a palaver. I arrived a bit early and reception was only staffed from 1800. I had to use an automated check-in system, which wouldn't let me in. Eventually a cleaner opened the door for me. Also, I could have done with an extra blanket on the bed. When I used the shower, I could not stop the water from flooding the area around the toilet bowl.

Cons: No air conditioning
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast, plenty of choice. Pleasant reception area. Staff were very welcoming and friendly.
Cons: Nothing was a problem.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location, it was very quiet and close to a pub if you wanted to have a walk around. Room 206 had a great view over the car park and was very quiet. The car park was also great and secure. The staff were prompt and the check-in/check-out was very quick. The room itself was very clean and the bathroom, although small was well maintained and clean.
Cons: We had to stop over for a night along thw road trip and I can say this was a great little pitstop. I would have liked a kettle and some coffee in the room, but apart from that it wasn't that bad for the money we paid.
6.7 Good
Pros: Friendly reception staff. Good breakfast range. Parking immediately outside the hotel.
Cons: Twin room was cramped and tired. Converted old building so little light from windows. You wouldn't spend much time in the room.
6.7 Good

Pros: Great and easy to get into even when reception was closed.. Wonderful lay out and great for 2+ people
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was split level, much better than a bunk bed. It was very safe even for our little two year old to use the stairs. I found this arrangement much more family friendly than the usual bunk bed and double bed combination! The bed was comfy and the room clean, fantastic value for money!
Cons: No such thing. The bathroom could have been a bit bigger but we only stayed for one night so not really a problem.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location is perfect for a pit stop. Town centre was charming.
Cons: Didn't like the smell in bathroom.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: An excellent hotel for a night stay, kids loved the upper floor in the room
Cons: A cattle / tea facilities in the room would be nice
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Clean and new
6.7 Good
Pros: The usual convenience of a B&B hotel - good private parking, reliable WiFi, comfortable room with good insulation from the road outside. There's a nice bakery just a few minutes walk away.
Cons: Although we had the "Do Not Disturb" sign up, someone knocked on our door 45 minutes before the checkout time, telling us we had to check out by 12pm. There were signs up everywhere saying that checkout was at 12pm, so it felt unnecessary and intrusive. Overall, the place was decent, but not quite up to the usual standards we've come to expect from B&B hotels. The only plus point was the night-time security guard, who was very friendly and showed us where to check in using the automated machine.

Cons: Nothing
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The room is quiet and clean, everything necessary is there, you can easily spend some nights there.
Cons: I haven't noticed anything negative.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I was fortunate to be upgraded to a small apartment on the 4th floor. The room was superb but 4 floors with a heavy case is quite a challenge! The room was amazing, beautifully decorated and spacious. The shower was large and there were separate basins on each side.
Cons: The lack of a lift! There was no milk for tea at breakfast. Unfortunately, I could not get the Wi Fi to operate - there had been no problem at the 5 other hotels where I stayed on this trip. Some information about the area - even a map - would have been helpful.
