Nice mix of international guests.
Upon arrival I checked in and no one asked for payment, leaving me to presume that the payment had gone through booking.com On the day before I was due to depart the hotel realized the payment was not made, locked my daughter out of the room until I arrived back from the pool to a closed door and made a payment. I had no issue making a payment as I mentioned it was not asked for upon arrival. I made the payment in order to have the door opened and because I owned the funds - in all, I thought it was handled very strange. All this after finding a cockroach in the bathroom the night before !! Entertainment was very poor, with only one good night out of five - the other two nights we left the complex as the entertainment was worse than bad. Everything closed at 12 midnight with no entertainment for teenagers.
The location is perfect with most rooms facing the sea and although it is a large and busy hotel it is very well run so it is still relaxing and comfortable. The food is excellent at all mealtimes and the olympic pool bliss. The female lifeguard on duty when we were there is a credit to the hotel so helpful and friendly, she goes over and beyond to welcome guests and ensure their experience at the pool is the best it can be.
The road noise in one of the rooms we stayed in.
Entertainment at night poor although the entertainment staff during the daytime were excellent
One of the pools was heated which was good.
The food was not great, all reused from the meal before. the dining room was dark and dingy, the hotel will have been top class in the ‘80’s but has not been updated since. The Olympic pool is not for use as coaches use it for team lessons, the snack bar was tiny.
It was an exceptional stay! I was really surprised, how friendly and welcoming the staff is. All of you are great! But Marcin is the best :-) We arrived on my wife's birthday and I have asked before our arrival about a little cake (sure I was ready to pay for this) and we got a very nice hand-written birthday card, a very delicious cake and a bottle of cava and all this - complimentary form the hotel. Thank you, guys!!!! The room has enough space, the hotel itself has lots of different facilities for everyone: are you with kids -you have separate areas, swimmng pool, kids club and so on. Just relaxing alone? -you have adults only swimming pool far away from the crowd to chill out. Are you a champion?-you have a huge olympic swimming pool (extra charges and reservation apply).Ocean?-just few hundred meters by foot to the beach of further by bus to next beaches (great variety of places). Food is fabulous and you have always something new. Really, don't trust those who say "always the same' -nope!Here you have a wide selection of food for different food cultures and styles, the restaurant has enough space, so it's never overcrowded taking into consideration, that the hotel complex is huge. Want something different?-Spar supermarket is 100mtrs from the hotel. Wifi connection is good in all areas. Swimming pools are checked (every morning I saw a man with a small laboratory, checking the quality of the water), however we didn't much used them, because our target was the ocean. Arrecife is about 7 stops from the hotel, if you want into the "city", Costa Teguise center is 3 stops by bus or couple kilometers by foot. Nearby is also the Spanish King's residence and kings usually have good taste :-) so this location couldn't be bad. In the hotel you have lots of bars, fitness centre, mini-club,disco. So,those who'll order "all iclusive" will have enough spaces, where to relax. Rooms are cleaned every day.
Drinks (even non-alcoholic) for the dinner (paid separately) are too expensive. And not all drinks are in the all-inlclusive portfolio as I saw in the menu. Beach towels are exchanged free-of-charge only once - could be more often.
The Occidental Lanzarote Mar (belonging to the Barceló Hotel Group and formerly the Barceló Lanzarote Resort) is a fantastic Lanzarote sports hotel where time slows down, thanks to its peaceful and idyllic setting on the Costa Teguise, one of the most exclusive areas in Lanzarote. Its location is also one of the most privileged, just 6 km from the capital, Arrecife, and 16 km from the airport.
