Mocona Virgin Lodge By Don - El Soberbio - Building

9.2 Excellent (152 reviews)
C$ 175+
Overview Reviews
For nature lovers, we offer a wide variety of experiences for adrenalin, exploration, contemplation and relaxation in a unique environment.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is unbeatable, it feels like you're sleeping in a treehouse in the middle of the jungle! The property is gorgeous and so well designed. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The included activities (zipline, hikes etc) were excellent. The food was good as well.
Cons: There isn't much not to like. I wish there had been a fogon (campfire) on the night it didn't rain. Rain had left all the firewood wet but storing it indoors would be an easy solution to such a problem...
6.3 Good
Pros: It is the best and only place to visit the Moconá Falls. The site is set in the midst the forest in a highly protected nature reserve on the margins of the spectacularly unspoilt Yabotí Guazú river. The outdoor activities included in the rate --canoping across the forest and over the spectacular Horacio stream waterfall, kayaking and tubbing in the Yabotí, etc-- are amazing, as is the infinite pool cantilevering into the forest.
Cons: Impossibly wet in winter. EVERYTHING is damp. The heating is both inefficient and anti-ecological (hot air). The distance from the rooms to the common areas is far too extreme (and uphill). Absolutely inappropriate for the even slightly mobility impaired. ALL outdoor activities are heavily dependant on the random and constant change weather conditions and the Uruguay river water level. Including the possibily of seeing the Moconá Falls, which are VERY frequently not visible under the swell.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Near perfect setting in a wonderful environment provided by the Atlantic rain forest, next to a 1.000 hectare reserve with 200 to 400 year old trees and the unique Moconá falls, along the River Uruguay.
Cons: The only downside is the near permanent 100% humidity, at times, it makes walking the wooden bridges between the cabins and the hotel lounge a bit slippery. However, this is to be expected if you are in the midst of a rain forest.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice location, liked the fact that generator goes off at night (no more noise from it nor the neighbours)
Cons: Swimming pool not heated. Lobby/bar could be a bit more cosy (no music, ... )

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great view of Uruguay river. The place is amazing really
Cons: If you are not traveling with car, it can be a little bit inaccessible from town.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Location is amazing. Staff were extremely accommodating and pleasant to talk to. Gorgeous place. Loved the live music performance with jungle rain in the background, it was an unforgettable moment.
Cons: Food quality was rather poor. It would be great to have more than one or two choices for meals and also proactively ask guests if they have dietary requirements so they can be accommodated. It was hard to find something in the breakfast that was not sugary or full of carbs and fats. More vegetables would be fantastic. For dinner, I understood they said they had gnocchi and steak available. I always had gnocchi as a side dish, so I said gnocchi first and turns out it was gnocchi OR steak, so I was sad to only have a bunch of pasta with tomato sauce (the sauce was delicious, though).

8.8 Excellent
Pros: This property was a wonderful discovery. Mariana and Sebastian, who own and run the nature reserve, are fantastic hosts and made us feel at home. We explored the surrounding jungle, did kayaking on one of the tributaries of Rio Uruguay (guided by Sebastian), literally watched as hundreds of caterpillars morphed into butterflies and, of course, visited the nearby Saltos de Mocona. We are still astounded that Saltos de Mocona is not a better known site, even by Argentinians. It is one of a kind, read about it in Google. At Chacra del Agua we had all our breakfast and dinners prepared by our hosts. I cannot talk enough about the culinary experience, it was great. My family and I give Chacra all the stars and amply recommend it.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excelent accomodation, beautiful location.
Cons: Overpriced evening meals..It says on booking that you can pay by credit card and on arrival, neither of which us true. You need cash for anything you do at the lodge and in the area unless you are Argentian.
