10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were great and the facilities were first class. We were given access to a garden room with a log fire in the evening, fantastic. It doesn't get better than this!
Cons: Nothing

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic place to stay. Atmospheric and cosy in the quiet part of the town. The owners are very friendly. Highly recommended.

Pros: Quite location and a very lovely and courteous host. The breakfast was outstanding.
Cons: No complaints
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It's a place just like being home, most comfortable, fantastic breakfast and two lovely owners who take care of their guests as best as they can... Lovely situated in a church area and in only 10 minutes most often nice neighborhood walking distance to down town
Cons: Nothing to improve, all just perfect
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This place is a real gem. The owners could not have been more welcoming and the house and gardens themselves are both beautiful. It is a little off the beaten track in the suburbs of Emmerich and visitors should be aware that the church next door rings its bells at 6am but I personally would gladly return.
Cons: The room had no air conditioning. It was fine for us just to have the windows open but on a hot day it might well still be uncomfortably warm overnight.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Quiet location with off-street parking -- comfortable room (Cape Town) with large bathroom. Good breakfast.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Perfect place to relax!
10.0 Excellent

Pros: Fantastic location by the river Rhine, and a very nice view from the room.
Cons: A bit too much noise from the traffic on the river.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We felt very welcome from the first minute we arrived. Everyone was really friendly and the rooms are excellent!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything, especially lovely welcome and location. Clean very well looked after accommodation, it was a great place to rest up on our trip back from the Alps. Excellent hosting bistro/cafe - having eaten there in the evening our only regret was not being able to stay for breakfast due to our early start. Will be top of our list on our next trip.
Cons: Ever so slightly confusing electronic lock, but only until you get the hang of it, so nothing of consequence really (this shows how hard we’ve had to think of anything).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is probably the most cozy little place we have ever stayed in! The rooms, the staff, the location, the breakfast - everything was absolutely lovely! Our only regret is that we did not have to stay for more than one night, sense this was a business trip. But we will definately find some reason to come back ;)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was very friendly and helpful Breakfast was super
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really comfy room, lovely bed, compact but had everything including settee, fridge with complementary drinks and spacious shower room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful rooms with an amazing view of the river. Breakfast was also lovely. The staff were exceedingly warm and accommodating. Highly recommend this hotel.
Cons: Nothing! Can not fault it
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Rees is a cool little town on the Rhein, the hotel is in on the riverfront and close to the town center. Our room had a balcony overlooking the river which was great. Newly refinished, the room was comfortable.
Cons: Nothing negative to report.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: A very nice room with all commodities except airconditioning. Very clean and cosy atmosphere. Breakfast was good, I missed a yoghurt or muesli. Only little fruit but OK. Location of the hotel is perfect with a payable parking in the close vicinity.
Cons: As mentioned before I missed the airconditioning and a few ingredients for breakfast. Wifi was good for normal email etc... but viewing Netflix was virtually impossible. But the wording "what did you not like" is a bit strong. It's more what would you recommend to improve.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was amazing, the food was great, it was very clean.
Romantik Parkhotel Wasserburg Anholt - Isselburg - Building
3
9.1 Excellent (533 reviews)
C$ 205+
Overview Reviews
Standing within 42 hectares of grounds, this impressive castle offers stylish rooms and a unique atmosphere in the Anholt district of Isselburg, just one kilometre from the Dutch border. The Parkhotel Wasserburg Anholt offers creative, regional cuisine in its restaurant with glass façade. Enjoy the view of the castle moat as you dine here or on the terrace. Go for a stroll through the hotel's attractive, Baroque-style gardens or practise your swing at the adjacent golf course. The Parkhotel Wasserburg Anholt also makes a wonderful wedding venue, and includes its own registry office. Day trip options include Moyland Castle and the historic towns of Isselburg, Kleve and Xanten.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: staff was extremely friendly. Charmed by their proposal to provide - at the time of booking- to prepare a light meal because of my very late arrival. A really nice gesture - b.t.w. de light meal was superb! Rooms nicely decorated with respect to the authenticity of the building.
Cons: it was quite a long walk in the rain to the parking lot, but I understand that it would be a sin to park inside the castle area. It is already forgotten and forgiven!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great experience. The reception was courteous and flexible. Restaurant staff was very good. The property is well maintained, clean and it was a unique experience staying there.
Cons: We thought that the lunch menu could have been improved.
6.7 Good
Pros: The place is truly beautiful and really clean (what you don't expect from old castles...)
Cons: The service was so so and also some details like extra bed put in the corridor. It didn't look well. Also, we were not happy with food in the restaurant, that wasn't tasty, especially we do not jugde well value for money.
6.3 Good
Pros: The location is marvelous. Surrounded by it beautiful garden, the hotel takes you back I to ancient times. The place offers good parking and is also otherwise easily accessible.
Cons: Upon our stay I called ahead to confirm the restaurant dinner table that should go with our booking. However I was told that due to a wedding at the hotel there would be no table for us (my wife and I) available. Since the weekend was a present it was very disappointing to apparently be locked into the hotel in the middle of nowhere but having no dinner table. The only other choice close by is a standard pizza place which is definitely not what would go well with the idea of a “treat yourself” weekend. We ended up leaving our nice dinner clothes behind and went on our trip. When arriving at the hotel we were informed by the front desk that our room would automatically still come with a restaurant table. After mentioning the contradicting information I received over the phone earlier I was simply given the explanation that “someone must have been confused”. We ended up having a nice 6 course dinner at the restaurant after all unfortunately, dressed in our normal street cloth :( it could have been an isolated mishap (annoying but such things can happen) but after our check out took about 10 minutes while 2 receptionist tried to figure out how to print a receipt I got the impression that a bit more quality at the reception desk might be advisable to do this place justice. Unrelated to this but not worthy. The bathroom shower gets the entire bathroom wet since the door only closed halfway. As well we would have expected tooth paste, body wash and shampoo to be provided which was not the case :( it should be standard for a room that price)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were so well taken care of by the staff even before arrival. Our dogs had bowls and a towel waiting for them, which means the world to us. Everything is clean and the restaurant food and scenario are amazing. 10 out of 10 easily
Cons: There is nothing not to like about this place.

Cons: Nothing.
7.9 Good
Pros: Nice hotel with good restaurant
7.0 Good
Pros: Location was good. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent. We were in the back in the patio fortunately so no annoying cars driving by like in the front.
Cons: Breakfast was so-so. We walked in at 9am and the salmon had 2 pieces left, scrambled eggs were almost gone, wheat bread was gone. Salmon and wheat bread were not replenished during our breakfast, eggs were. People were there before us, we felt like we entered too late. Reception at day of arrival: very cold and no enthusiasm. We just got out of a 5-hour car trip from the other side of Germany, it would have been nice to have a courteous welcome. The door was closed when we arrived at 3.30pm. The restaurant just opened up. The owner who checked us in said that we were too early (we had written an estimate time of 4pm-5pm, so yes we were a half hour early) and that he couldn't be at the reception for 24 hours. Booked 2 comfort rooms with balcony. Received 1 room with balcony en 1 room without. No airconditioning even though we were in the new building across the street. The room without balcony was not cleaned upon our arrival. We left the place and went to Rees did some sightseeing, came back and had a beautiful dinner. Which made us (kinda) forget all the negative stuff.
7.1 Good
Pros: Good location , staff helpful.
Cons: Too many flies, no air con
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast
Cons: Liked everything
8.8 Excellent
Pros: - nice comfortable beds - good breakfast - nice and helpful cleaning ladies
Cons: - upfront telephone communication wasn't that nice once some simple clarification questions were asked (e.g. earlier check in than 5pm) - minor, but it would have been nice that they would have helped with the luggage when they showed me our room
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, great location, clean. I stayed in in the apartment, so I do not know if the same is true for the hotel rooms.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room and service were excellent and the evening meal was excellent both in quality of the food and value for money. The staff serving the meals were very good also breakfast was very good. I cannot fault this establishment
Cons: Village is small and not a lot to do

9.2 Excellent
Pros: I had a spacious wel equiped room. Wifi was good enough to stream Netflix, or watch home tv channel. Very confortable bathroom. Very good bed and noise isolation. Quiet environment. Breakfast is certainly OK for everybody.
Cons: The hotel is in my view not of the highest modern standard, but everything is very adequately organized. When conferences are taking place, and the hotel has a high occupation, parking is not that generous. The location is calm but walking to downtown is out of the question, certainly in the winter time.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was very clean and spacious. The location was not too far away from where we most of the day.
Cons: N/A
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We absolutely loved the sauna facilities. We came for a wellness weekend and got what we wished for. Sauna was open till 23.00 at night, so we combined outings during the daytime with sauna late afternoon or evening. We had dinner at the hotel on our first night and the quality of the food was quite good. We had to wait quite a long time for our food though and had difficulties finding something glutenfree on the menu. Location was great for us and we enjoyed visiting Xanten, Kleef and Kevelaer.
Cons: Restaurant (also breakfast) did not really offer much for people that are on a glutenfree diet. Also the room was quite small, although there was still plenty of storage space.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Warm welcome, room clean and comfortable, breakfast good. Ample parking
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic place, awesome staff, incredible organization. Very gentle and nice people in the structure.

Pros: The size of the room was really great! I loved the venue and the restaurant! The location was great and the staff was very friendly. The breakfast was enjoyable and free. Diner was amazing! You had to pay separately, but the steak was to die for.
Cons: There were only 4 parking spaces in the back, the bed was really soft, the breakfast was almost completely gone by 09.30 and the shower entrance was tiny. There also wasn’t a really lobby present. You had to check in at the bar of the restaurant.

When selecting products and suppliers, we attach great importance to quality and regionality.

6.3 Good
Pros: Kim was fantastic in resolving the many problems encountered from the time of arrival Thank you Kim, you're a true star
Cons: Ensure that the requirements and requests confirmed by your Hotel is followed through so as to not have issues at close to midnight on a Sunday evening
5.4 Okay
Pros: I stay there frequently and if I remember correctly this was the 4th time I was not been able to sleep because extrem loud partying at the hotel bar, They rented out the place to a wedding party without thinking one second about other guests. This was the 2nd or 3rd time I had to move to a higher level in the middle of the night. For this price this is totally inacceptable. Since the price level is higher that in major cities I frequent. And they did not even bother to reduce the (high) parking fees,... That is poor in place like this. I will consider staying in another hotel next time.
Cons: The staff should be aware that there might be other people staying at the place when doing Mallorca style parties.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Couldn't afford the breakfast or car parking, but overall, the hotel is very nice.

Pros: Very nice. Problem with light in the bathroom was solved in 5 minutes. Excellent breakfast and friendly staff.
Cons: Nothing to mention here considering value for money.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Newly renovated, spotless and very spacious (by German standards) room. Comfy beds, great linen. Basic, yet tasty breakfast.
Cons: The only negative was that the water pressure in our room was a bit low. Not so bad that you couldn't shower, but not a very strong flow.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful breakfast table
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The room was very large and nice. It looks like it had been updated recently. We arrived on a Sunday after normal Sunday hours, but they hid the key so we were able to just pick it up and and inside. They also recommended a place down the street to eat that was open on Sunday evening that was really good.
Cons: I did get a little nervous when we arrived around 5:30 to find there was no one there. There was a sign on the door with a phone number to call if we arrived after hours. I called the number and left a message, but also messaged through booking.com and they replied immediately with info on where to find the key. I was able to get on to the motel wifi to message them because there was no password.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Quiet and clean hotel.
Cons: View of a chemical factory immediately to the rear of the hotel. This does not detract though as no smell, no noise.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was very big and clean, the bed just perfect. The bathroom extremely clean and spacious enough. Excellent breakfast, tasty and quality meal. The staff was really helpful and willing to help (due to some unexpected delays we missed the check-in time; with just a phone call we have arranged for a late check-in). We'll return with pleasure, anytime.
Cons: There was nothing to dislike, everything was great.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location is perfect
5.0 Okay
Pros: Nice modern clean spacious room
Cons: Tricky shower access for my disabled wife
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location close to river was fantastic and Ina is a lovely host.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly lady who spoke good English . Loved the big room and big bathroom
Cons: A jug in the room ?
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The welcome was wonderful. Our host made us feel right at home and even found space in her garage for our motorbikes. The rooms were clean and modern and really nicely done. Breakfast was superb - our host put a lot of effort into providing something tasty and exciting to the eye. We didn't need lunch at all! The town is lovely and the hotel is just a short walk from the river where there are excellent restaurants.
Cons: The hotel does back onto an industrial unit. It's not noisy - but it kind of spoils the view (I had a lovely balcony on my room).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast is excellent.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast is outstanding, obviously prepared with a lot of love. The location is convenient for getting around town and free parking is a rare commodity nowadays. It is situated in the middle of industry, river, and town, so you have varying vistas.
Cons: The room was rather noisy, as it was downstairs and street-facing. The church nearby rings a bell every 15 minutes which, if you are not used to it, can spoil your night-rest. If I could choose, I would go for an upstairs room facing the chemical plant, which could be a little more quiet.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was great in a friendly and pleasant atmospere

9.6 Excellent
Pros: We have stayed here many times and it is always good. The meal was excellent in the Hotels restaurant. Service is good and excellent value.
Cons: The bottom sheet on the beds is made from a material that is hot and uncomfortable. People do expect to sleep on cotton. It would not stop me staying here but this change would make all the difference.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Accommodation is comfortable and clean, parking is perfect, not far from motorway.
Cons: Breakfast is not varied, but sufficient and delicious. It's just what they're doing to you for breakfast. No more.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We were warmly greeted and shown our room. We had dinner at the restaurant and it was very good and reasonably priced.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It was a very good appartement. The room is big and de bedrooms are great. In the neighbourhood are nice restaurants and a few supermarkets. Everything is available like showergel, games, towels and other stuff. The host is good to reach and very friendly. W’ll go back if we’re staying in that area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly, family run hotel. Always feel welcomed here when I arrive. Rooms are always clean and very comfortable with plenty of space. Restaurant has very tasty food. In the morning you get a great breakfast. It's situated away from the Autobahn so is very quiet. It's about 10mins from the Autobahn but well worth the trip.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Although the autobahn A3 is less than a mile from the hotel, we did not hear any traffic thanks to the excellent sound insulation of the windows. Booking should stress this in its offer of this accomodation.
Cons: Dinner in their "restaurant"was typically German i.e. greasy and even the vegetables were covered in "sauce". Must have been more than 2500 Kcal. Of course one can eat only part, which we did.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast in a restaurant with view of Rhein, very comfortable bed
6.7 Good
Pros: First we got another room as what was promised in the booking confirmation. Not at ground level and no full side on the river. Next the WIFI signal was very, very poor. I measured it several time at it was around 80-84 dbm. Very bad. And they simply admitted it and told me that nothing could be done. I wonder how this hotel got his 4 stars, because that does not fit in the service we got.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location right beside the Rhine. Fantastic breakfast (proper bacon and eggs - full English/German). Staff on the desk were really friendly and even put up with my terrible attempts at speaking German!
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The hotels location was excellent and the room was superb with a good sized bathroom, facilities and breakfast were very good.
Cons: No real dislikes, but had to wait to check in due to receptionist having an extended phone conversation, perhaps an additional member of staff is required, but a very nice hotel with good facilities.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Wellness
7.9 Good
Pros: The location was quite good with some interesting short walks and the room had a view over the river.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Location, breakfast, price
Cons: No airco, we had 30 degree celsius, room is 10 meters from parking so if you open windows it is disturbing. Beds were kind of old. Child bed was ok. Empty bar in the room. Water was on the table not in the fridge so it was hot.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The front Office employee who was working there at night was super friendly and was verry clear and had informed us well!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Check in very fast. We came late at night and everything was ready

Pros: That was very good localization, nice room, and nice staff
Cons: That was old fruits (melons and watermelon )and not fresh cheese on the breakfast

Pros: It was a standard breakfast, which means OK. However, a little more choises and eggs only boiled softly would have given a better impression.

Featured amenities include express check-in, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, and a 24-hour front desk. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I had a very big room for one person, which was great. The service was so good. I didn't have a breakfast because I had to leave very early every morning, but they made me lunch packets every day. The neighbourhood was beautiful, I absolutely loved walking around and relaxing.
Cons: It's quite noisy sometimes. I could literally hear my neighbors every sentence.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The actual hotel was really neat, quiet country setting. It was relaxing after staying in lots of major cities. The bar was good and dinner was excellent. The staff especially Mrs. Zimmer was amazing. I would be very likely to visit again.
Cons: If you’re looking to stay up late and have a time this really isn’t the place.
7.1 Good
Pros: The environment was very nice! Breakfast was good!
Cons: The bed mattresses were very hard and the pillows too soft and too small.
7.1 Good
Cons: Rooms were not exactly as represented in photo - ordered and paid for double room but got 3 single beds that couldn’t be pushed together in a top floor room with a much smaller window than photo so it was really warm. However if you ordered a triple single bed room then you would be happier. Otherwise - staff were nice and breakfast was great and private bathrooms were really clean so just be aware of which room you are getting.
6.7 Good
Pros: The location was fabulous. Peace and quiet. The history of the building.
Cons: De hard beds, very small pillows, difficult to get in and out of shower. We couldn't find the entrance straight away. Was not inviting.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully situated in a wooded paradise with a lake, well away from traffic noise. The noisiest thing I found in the grounds was a woodpecker drilling holes in the trees! Lovely and comprehensive breakfast with a chef on hand to cook whatever you would like.
Cons: Bed was a little utilitarian, but not uncomfortable.
6.3 Good
Pros: In a rural location with plenty of parking -- staff were very helpful -- the Wifi worked well.
Cons: Where do I begin! The access down an attractive, tree-lined drive and the first view of the hotel belies what is to come. I have added my photo below; a similar one also appears on this web-site and the hotel's brochure. Pleasant reception from the only front of house person on duty all evening ... she also served dinner! The public areas and the rooms were more akin to a hostel or second-rate university hall of residence. The bed was a low divan-type base with thin duvet -- school-type table and chairs -- small, ill-equipped bathroom. If you are offered Room 109, refuse it as it's immediately above the kitchen! Glad I was able to have dinner served outside as the "restaurant" was more like a transport cafe -- unfortunately, this is where the adequate breakfast was served. At €66 per night, the price is a joke -- 3-star classification is a joke. Worst hotel I've stayed in during the many years I have been touring the Continent.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff and the country location is excellent.
