Southampton Harbour Hotel - Southampton - Building

9.2 Excellent (291 reviews)
C$ 306+
Overview Reviews

Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. Free valet parking is available onsite.
7.1 Good
Pros: The location was quite good but the area still has some way to go as many of the surrounding new buildings have empty retail facilities. Also a little further from the centre of town than I anticipated. Facilities were generally good and the food was excellent
Cons: We stayed for two nights but having been out all day we returned to find our room had not been cleaned. Ours was a studio room with a very nice kitchen but it was of no use as there were no cooking utensils, cutlery or plates! When we enquired about this we were told they had not yet been provided but a small central stock was available if we needed them. I don't think this should have been marketed as a studio without the facilities being available in the room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really enjoyed our stay. Amazing views from our bedroom window.Lovely breakfast and the staff serving breakfast were friendly and pleasant nothing was to much trouble for them. Reception staff were also very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend this hotel. Thank you for the memories made and making us feel so comfortable.
Cons: Nothing at all.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great restaurant staff! 5* attitude
Cons: I stayed over for a week, the staff at reception were exceptional. Reception staff needs more training on customer service but all in all great service.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, clean , modern
Cons: Nothing
4.6 Okay
Pros: The location beside the harbour was the best feature.
Cons: We arrived after 3pm but were made to wait for our room which was not ready. I had to remind the reception staff after 30 minutes of waiting. When we were shown to our room it was not clean (food residue etc on the carpet). We called the housekeeper and the manager who did sort the problem out to our satisfaction. However, not a pleasant experience.
6.0 Good
Pros: Nothing. The room was OK but after that there was nothing to compare with any other 5 star hotel that I've ever stayed in.
Cons: My arrival in a bleak white unmanned reception was as welcoming as a dentist surgery. The restaurant was so loud that I retreated to my room to wait over an hour for a non arrival food service. The absence of hot water and a cold shower really completed one of the worst stays I've ever had in a hotel. It only has 5 stars because of box ticking. There is nothing 5 star about this hotel!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable bed nice shower breakfasts good
Cons: The room balcony was not clean the air conditioning has not remote but this ok i have been to 5 stars so remote is most u don’t want to leave the in the middle of the night out u bed thank you
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was excellent. Great place
Cons: No comments
5.8 Okay
Pros: Its ok
Cons: They promised a sea view I got a marine view instead.Breakfast is not included. The receptionist had tricked me into prepayment. I only wanted to pay for the room and breakfast, she took another £50 on top of that! I asked for an explanation. I was told it will be refunded 4 days later which left me feel fooled. Sink has an annoying fixture, the sink gets blocked when washing your hands then you have to touch it to pull the plug out and drain the dirty water. I called the maid to unblock the sink, then she started touching my bed without washing her hands, telling me she is doing another service getting me ready for sleep. I would prefer no one messed about with my bed. Window must have a vent for a fresh air!

6.7 Good
Pros: Staff very helpful but forgot clean towels on one day
Cons: The fish was not cooked enough as parts were raw
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Good location —and excellent service
Cons: Mushrooms and fried bread especially of the full English would have been much improved if done in butter rather than oil.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean and tidy. Space used well
Cons: Can’t think of anything we didn’t like
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Pretty much everything.
Cons: Excellent place to stay. I liked everything about it. Only very, very small thing was car parking space which was tight but nothing I couldn't cope with.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice breakfast. Good location.
Cons: The window was open on arrival and there were lots of spiders and insects that had to be removed. Would be better if windows were closed before guests arrive. Thank you
7.1 Good
Pros: Good breakfast, staff friendly. Afternoon staff not especially familiar with points of interest-but wifi available. Fair value for cost. Nice sitting room first floor with pleasant patio. Walking distance to many restaurants. Would book again-if traveling alone
Cons: Thin walls-easily heard tv from other room-loud for heard of hearing guests til 10:30.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Spacious, beautiful, exceptionally clean. The shower and chrome work, were gleaming. Lots of attention to the finest detail and finishing touches. Very impressed! Lovely staff, fabulous breakfast.. they couldn’t do enough for you.
Cons: I liked everything
7.9 Good
Pros: The staff was great!
Cons: Wi-Fi
10.0 Excellent
Pros: While the decor of our room was somewhat minimalist, it was very comfortable and clearly had been thoughtfully planned; all our current travel necessities had been provided for! The bathroom was new, modern and very clean - a must for me - and, again, had all the amenities we needed! The two young woman who appeared to be managing the front desk & breakfast room were delightful and very helpful. Breakfast was nicely presented and delicious!
Cons: The parking yard and landscaping in front of the building could have used a little cleaning up. Also, when we first arrived we were greeted by a very large vehicle, which appeared to be a military vehicle and which gave us a bit of a shock at first.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable bed, clean room and convenient location.
Cons: Our room was right by the front door so had to put up with being awakened in the early hours by guests coming in. Also not soundproof and the people upstairs made a lot of noise moving around.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was awesome . We have stayed many times and it never fails to meet expectation.
Cons: The room we were allocated was on the first floor and we experienced a lot of noise from above which we believe may have been from the family that own the property especially going up and down stairs. The extractor fan in the en-suite was also very noisy. However this did not really spoil our stay and will definitely book again.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff. Our dog was welcome also. The room was lovely, very large bed which was very comfortable and everything was very clean. Parking also was no problem as the hotel gave us a notice to put inside the windscreen which meant we could park outside for free. We had an excellent meal at the Florence Inn which was a 3 minute walk from the hotel. Dogs were welcome and the staff were very friendly and efficient.
Cons: Nothing.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The Location was very good for us we travelled by train and it was about a 30minute walk to the Hotel. The breakfast was extremely good and would recommend the full English , every thing was cooked just right. Coffee and toast were bought to us very quickly before we choose the breakfast. The bar was open from 5pm - late serving sandwiches up to 9pm nice room to chill out in as well.. Very friendly staff.
Cons: The shower was small. It would have been nice to have more coffee in the room
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great location for Portsmouth Dockyard etc. and strolls along Southsea front to D-day Museum etc. Great breakfast and staff to match. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! Beautiful rooms, squeaky clean. Lovely decor - not another identical room in a chain. Lovely staff and fab breakfast. Free parking and right on the seafront.
Cons: The fact that it is so good you’ll all be booking there - we want to go back!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice friendly staff that were very helpful, great breakfast , good location , easy car parking , clean room, nice bar.
Cons: The room was a little dark but other than that everything was great!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The beds were comfortable, the staff very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was great. The bar and lounge areas are comfortable. It is easy to get to, park and not far from the sights of Portsmouth. The beach is just across the road. We made great use of Uber to get around which was very cheap compared with London.
Cons: We booked 4 rooms for a family get-together. I paid extra for a sea view in one room. That meant we were at the front of the hotel and it was rather noisy, particularly on the Saturday night when at 3 am a group of young people sar in the park over the road chatting for quite a while. The rooms at the back of the hotel were very quiet.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Nice place by the southern quay Nice breakfast Comfortable, modern room

Pros: Breakfast was fine. The restaurant in the hotel was spectacular. We had lunch there and enjoyed it so much we returned for dinner. Service was superb and the food fantastic. Location couldn't be better. Close to High Street and the Tudor House. And--it is air conditioned. Very important to American travellers. Few UK hotels are air conditioned. This unit was wonderful. It was uncommonly warm in Southampton.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful staff, beautifully decorated with a great deal of thought into the fixtures and fittings. Food excellent at the Florence Arms. Good selection of drinks and enticing menu.
Cons: Reception was slow
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The property is ideally located for Southsea, especially the Pyramid centre. Breakfast was included and offered a good variety and was good quality. The room, although very small offered a good level of comfort and cleanliness.
7.5 Good
Pros: Stayed just 2 nights - quirky hotel split over 3 buildings so breakfast was next door but was excellent. Staff were good especially Jasmine whose customer service was fantastic. High quality toiletries and breakfast products.
Cons: We were a little disappointed how small our double room was, for what we paid - there was no room for a bedside cupboard on one side of bed. We booked this hotel based on its beautiful photos of the rooms but the room we were given wasn’t shown, and was not what we were expecting however it was very clean. Tiny bathroom with wobbly toilet seat - despite requesting it be resecured, it wasn’t done. We ate in nearby Florence Arms which was nice but wasn’t impressed with the food - I ordered 2 veg spring rolls and 1 samosa pastry as I just wanted a snack - both were luke warm and had no flavour - I expected more for £11.
7.1 Good
Pros: Decor good. Breakfast very good.
Cons: Don't know where the word suite comes from. We had a tiny room and a bathroom with no bath. Expected more for the money.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was amazing and the service from Jasmin was outstanding. A lovely stay.
Cons: N/A
5.8 Okay
Pros: The Gator pub was excellent and breakfast was really yummy.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Room very comfortable. Breakfast was very good.
Cons: Set up of the shower was awkward. Very limited parking.
7.1 Good
Pros: It was easy to find and the check in staff were helpful We had a meal in the local pub associated with the property The meal was very good
Cons: When we left we handed in the key and parking permit to the reception staff on duty We were off very early to catch the ferry to France When we landed there was a message saying we had not had in the parking permit which incurred a £100 fine It took 2 calls by my husbands to sort this out Which left a bad taste as the permit had been misfiled
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The cleanliness and location excellent
Cons: We had a suite, as it was hot a fridge in the room would have been great, and we had a decking area which was definitely in need of some TLC!!! And also had smokers other side of Fenching which not being smokers was no very pleasant, but overall a great few days away

Cons: Pillows were a bit soft, but it wasn't a major issue.
7.9 Good
Pros: the location was fine as it was not too far from the seafront. the breakfast was very good. a different type of hotel as it was art decor design and more modern than some i have stayed in. everywhere was very clean.
Cons: as i am of the older generation the bed was quite low but comfortable. also the edge of the bed was sticking out and hence i caught my leg on it.
7.1 Good
Pros: I felt that the staff were very professional and attentive. The location was great and the size of the room was great.

Pros: The location was suitable for our needs. Breakfast was delicious, lots of choice and it was cooked fresh. Room was clean. Bed was very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Liked the little bag with the water on checking out. I was informed on checkout if we re book we could possibly be upgraded which is a nice touch Would def stay there again.
Cons: The hotel looks like it needs painting as it was dirty in places. Drinks from the bar were a little overpriced, however, this is usual in a hotel. Not much light coming into the room due to its location.

6.7 Good
Pros: Location, decor
Cons: Noisy air con unit and uncomfortable bed
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Freshly cooked breakfast with great ingredients. Location five minutes walk from the seafront.
Cons: Herbal teas in the room would be nice plus fresh coffee bags instead of instant.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable room, but no prior warning that it was situated on the second floor with no lift and that the internal en suite involved climbing about 8 steps inside the room. Would be difficult for less able people. Lovely breakfast!
Cons: See above. Also we did not enjoy the evening meal at a nearby pub (part of our package), but that was just our personal preference for taste (didn’t like the salad dressing, undercooked green beans - other veg OK and tough belly of pork). We decided to avoid our second night meal and eat elsewhere
10.0 Excellent
Pros: staff friendly helpful, rooms lovely, nice for romantic break, easy reach of quays by taxi and also restaurant in walking distance. Would go back adn would recommend

Pros: Nice room, clean and very comfortable. Location good to explore surrounding area, short walk to many amenities. Staff particularly pleasant and helpful. Very nice breakfast on both morning

5.4 Okay
Pros: It was close to the seafront
Cons: It was soooo expensive. £350 for 1 night. We were disappointed because we expected luxury for that price. The shower head didn’t move up and was uncomfortable for me let alone my husband who is 6ft 4
6.0 Good
Pros: A very comfortable room and breakfast was good. Walking distance to the seafront.
Cons: I thought it was a glorified B&B not a hotel as there was no lounge or bar area. The vicinity was very noisy at night with loud shouting and swearing during both nights. Was not comfortable that our car was safe parked on the street in view of the locality.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We loved the boutique style of the hotel. The room was very comfortable.
Cons: Nothing I can recall.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Bed very comfy. Breakfast excellent. Staff were really nice and accommodating
Cons: Shower head was inefficient. Room wasn’t as luxurious an it looked in photos. Reception area was a bit scruffy and so was outside front door. No fresh milk in room.

Pros: The Mercer collection is a series of fantastic boutique hotels and they offer a seriously great service with a high attention to detail. The hotel is calm yet ideally placed for Portsmouth or southsea. I will always try and stay here when in the area
Cons: Having to leave.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff we brilliant, especially Jasmine who is a credit to the company and deserves exceptional praise.
7.0 Good
Pros: The staff were exceptionally friendly and tried to help when we couldn't get a signal on the television and also welcomed us when we arrived and showed us around, stating clearly and concisely where everything was in the hotel. The breakfast was also very good.
Cons: The cost, albeit for a festival, and as a last minute cancellation, was very high for the nature of the accommodation provided and it was symptomatic of a supply and demand situation!
7.1 Good
Pros: The staff was very kind but the room was too small and quite noisy! It’s fine for one night but no more
10.0 Excellent
Pros: There are lots of things to like about the property. The staff are very welcoming and accommodating (even to to extent of making our check in earlier so they could help us get parked) It’s very clean and each room is comfortable and individual. Pros: lovely staff especially the lady on the reception, she was so friendly and welcoming, lovely bar area, we had the deluxe room and was fabulous, great comfy bed, we had breakfast in the morning and was amazing all the food was lovely and hot and the poached eggs were excellent, I would definitely say if your in Southampton book this hotel magnificent.
Cons: nothing absolutely perfect.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: General smell in bedroom, probably the dirty pink carpet, which I put a towel on before I walked on. Décor in room was cheap and old fashioned (melamine cabinet, old fashioned flowery wall paper and no wardrobe – just a hanging rail.) Bathroom was cold and basic with a light over the mirror that didn’t work, and no mirror available in the bedroom, so I had to prop open the bathroom door to do my hair. Depressing awful room.

Pros: Very nice property in a lovely part of Portsmouth Great concept- making up a hotel using different properties
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect
7.9 Good
Pros: Breakfast was very good and the staff excellent.
Cons: The room was small being a reasonable sized bedroom but with a chunk taken out for the ensuite. Also difficult to get into the built in wardrobe. The area was noisy late at night. On site parking was inadequate for the size of the complex and local onstreet parking a nightmare if you missed out on a space.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Individual property well maintained clean and welcoming.
Cons: Our room was a little small worked for a night or two but would have been cramped for a longer break.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really friendly staff, well decorated, breakfast was great. Good location. Would definitely recommend.
Cons: My only little niggle was that I could hear the people upstairs moving around a lot, bit it wasn't awful.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very welcoming and helpful. We were very kindly moved to a more suitable room with less stairs to climb. The meal we had at the restaurant was excellent and to walk a couple of minutes back to the hotel and have such a good night's sleep was lovely. Will return soon
Cons: The only possible (very minor) negative was being above the breakfast room with quite loud diners in the morning but otherwise we could not fault anything at all and feel this is a gem of a place tucked away in Southsea.
7.9 Good
Pros: It was very nicely presented; quite homely and individual
Cons: The ensuite was tiny ambut we did book a basic double as just staying one night
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Tastefully designed period building, nicely positioned and with outstanding staff.
Cons: Breakfast was ok but not up to the standard of the rest of the hotel (dry over cooked bacon, poor quality orange juice etc)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We arrived after 8.00pm and had a genuine welcome. Our room was very homely, and comfortable. Loved the fact that the radiator in the bathroom was actually hot, and our towels were warm! Breakfast was awesome and served with a smile. Would not hesitate to recommend or return for a longer stay.
Cons: Didn't discover anything with a one night stay.
4.6 Okay
Pros: Breakfast wad nice. Very hot and came quickly once ordered.
Cons: The hotel room was tiny. Bathroom would not be suitable for a large person. It said on arrival to ask for an upgrade which we did but because we booked through a 3rd party ie booking.com it was not possible. Room was average at best. I do not think it was reasonably priced for that room. The rooms advertised look much bigger and better than the room we were given. Bed was soft and uncomfortable. Disappointing stay overall.
