Pros: Excellent central location for ease of access to city centre and public transport. Good variety of options at breakfast.
Cons: Intermittent issues with wifi connection. Although travelling alone, I stayed in a double room, but bizarrely, the bed was made up with a single duvet. Hotel main entrance appears to be opposite the local "drunk tank" so you do seem to run the gauntlet of the local "down-and-outs" when entering the hotel.

Located on Slottstorget Square in central Gävle, Pensionat Slottstorget offers free Wi-Fi and brightly decorated rooms with a TV, fridge and either private or shared bathroom facilities. Gävle Train Station is 400 metres away. All guest rooms at Slottstorget Pensionat have a work desk and wooden floors. In December, some rooms feature views of the characteristic Christmas Goat Monument, 50 metres away. A buffet breakfast is served each morning in the dining room. Drinks can be enjoyed at the British-style Bishop’s Arms Pub, located in the same building. The small common lounge is a nice place to enjoy free and coffee and watch TV or relax with a newspaper. Shopping is possible at Drottninggatan pedestrian street is 300 metres away. while the Swedish Railway Museum is 3 km from the hotel. Furuviksparken Zoo is 15 km away.

Cons: Getting in was hard because I didn’t get text message where should be door codes. So I needed to call service to figure it out all this.

Pros: It was possible to make tea and coffee in the evening. The hotel has its own pontoon deck floating in the river outside - a novelty. I actually liked its location amongst old brick and wooden warehouses on the site of the original town quays, now being converted to new uses. It was quiet in the evening, in spite of the riverside location and proximity to the railway and bus stations. The room itself was simple but contained just about everything you would expect in a B&B. There is no staff presence overnight but the hotel felt secure with its own front door within the building and of course with each room having its own key. The hotel is ten minutes walk from the town centre and, in the downstream direction, there are also a couple of restaurants at the bridge beyond the tourist office. The hotel is also close to the ferry for the attractive island of Limön.
Cons: There was nothing that I didn't like.

Pros: Great, friendly staff. Single room was really spacious with big bathroom. Great location and excellent price. Everything worked smoothly all around. You can even have evening snack if needed!

Pros: Beautiful self catering lodge. Fully fitted kitchen, lovely lounge and 2 bedrooms. Beautifully located, private small beach, great nature walks and cycling to be done. It was my partners birthday and staff had left us some bubbles in a wine cooler to celebrate! What a nice surprise!

Cons: Cleanliness could be much better, dirty frypan in cupboard, dead flies, outdoor furniture needed cleaning. Only one power point in kitchen which was on a timer, not user friendly. Gardens seem neglected, lots of weeds.

Pros: Big size of the flat, open and with a lot of light. Well equipped kitchen with enough plates, cutlery etc. for 6 people, dishwasher, freezer, fridge, watercooker, coffee machine - a proper flat with everything that you could need for a shorter or longer stay, including washing machine and dryer. Comfy beds and couch + 2 outdoor places to sit. A supermarket just 5 minutes away by car and else very close to the seaside in a calm area.
Cons: Small stuff like a non working socket in the kitchen + high temperature that couldn´t be regulated - might´ve been due to the warm days, we don´t know(open windows quickly fixed the issue though).

Pros: If you don't see the factories, it was a beautiful place. The room was clean and modern. It was nice to have two shower rooms in the apartment. Big fridge and freezer Big living area Swimming pool right next to the room The sauna next to the pool wasn't great, but still nice to use it.
Cons: So hot in the room and because a lot of mosquitoes were around, we couldn't leave windows open. I saw some rooms had fans in their rooms, but not in ours. Because our stay was on Sunday night, no one was there so we couldn't even ask for a fan. Too close to the industrial area. Couldn't see the factories from the hotel, but if you go down to the beach right in front of the hotel, that was the view we could get unfortunately. A group of men having the party at the pool side. Loud music and a lot of drinking. They left lots of empty cans and bottles. We booked a room for three adults and two children. Top bank bed wasn't made! We had to do it. The frying pan in the room was dirty. A mug was also dirty. One wine glass was broken. One of the bathrooms had a big gap underneath the shower panels, so the water was everywhere after having shower.

Pros: Though it was shared bathroom, bathrooms were always clean. It also had a sauna, which is excellent.
Cons: It was noisy - I woke up at 4AM for the noise from some rooms nearby. Maybe the wall is not too thick...

The Best Western Hotel City Gavle is a charming and newly renovated hotel in the best downtown location. The hotel is located next to the shopping mall Galleria Nian and the main square and has 92 clean rooms that are pet and smoke free. All rooms have cable television, Internet access, shower and toilet. Directly connected to the hotel you can find the shopping streets Drottninggatan, Nygatan and the main square, with dozens of restaurants, bars and cinemas. Nearby are also the Gavle Concert Hall, Adventure Bath, Gavle Museum, city library, Prison Museum, County Hospital, Gavle High School and the famous city park Bolougnerskogen. There are 700 parking spaces in the house next door, Galleria Nian and the railway station is located about 800 meters, and approximately nine minutes walk from the hotel. In the area around Gavle you can find the animal and amusement park called Furuviksparken, the Mackmyra Whisky Distillery, the Swedish Railway Museum, Kungsberget downhill skiing, four golf courses, Dalalven salmon fishing, and a lovely coastline at the Baltic Sea. Our nearest international airport is Arlanda which is the largest airport in Sweden, and from Arlanda to Gavle it takes around 60 minutes by train.

Pros: The location is actually very good if you are travelling by train. Unfortunately, booking.com and google map directions took us the long way (1.2km) - just make sure you exit the train station from the main entrance and go from there. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our dinner which was reasonably priced. The room was warm and beds comfortable, it was just too small with two suitcases. Lovely hot shower. Breakfast had a lovely range and we were able to go in early as we had a train to catch.
Cons: The room is a bit too small. It is an older style hotel so the lift was a squeeze with two adults and two cases.

Pros: Great hotel 5 minutes walking from the train station and next to peaceful Boulognerskogen park. Awesome breakfast with lots of choices. Even locally produced goat cheese and kavring bread for testing. Complementary coffee and tea whole day.

Cons: One person who I checked in with seemed kinda sarcastic when I was checking in and as I was stressed before that wasn't very welcome and left me a little bit at unease but hopefully that wasn't the normal procedure.

Pros: I stayed from 15th August, to the 19th, 2019. Very clean, staff were so amazing and all spoke English. Breakfast was great, just an overall great experience.
Cons: The location isn’t close to any stores. However if you drive, within 8minutes you’ll find everything you need. Plenty of parking too.

Furuvik Park is less than 10 minutes' drive away.

Pros: The building is fairly new, and the hostel is either new or recently refurbished. Our room was spacious and warm. Beds were comfy. The ensuite bathroom comes with a nice shower. Bed linen and towels are provided. Free parking is available just outside the building. There is an equipped communal kitchen, and the dining area in spacious and nicely decorated. It is possible to use a washing machine and drier, although during limited hours (9 am to 9 pm).
Cons: Overall is nice, but we would like to note some suggestions to improve the place. Many notes are only in Swedish, and it would be helpful to have them in English as well, to be mindful of international travellers. On arrival, you have to call a Swedish number to get an access code for the building. Response was quick, but given the not ideal temperatures, in Northern Sweden in November, it would be helpful to have the code sent by email in advanced. Also, some international travellers may not have roaming calls. The place is a tad noisy, given the proximity of the road and the factory, and this may be a problem if you are light sleeper.

Cons: As it was just a place to get some sleep we didn't mind too much but the kitchen had dirty cups etc in the sink and there was no garbage bin in the room, bathroom or kitchen.

Was charged with a early check-in fee (2 hours!) which I have NEVER experienced at ANY hotel before. The beds had 1 tiny horrible pillow each. The room was extremely hot with NO ventilation. Having to open the window to alleviate the high temperature, but the outside was extremely noisy (trains, traffic, works, etc.) as was the cleaning staff in the hallways.

Pros: Nice central location. It is situated on a main road, but in my room you could not hear that. Good breakfast! There is also a living room shared by all the guests. Very friendly employees. And that all for a very good price!

Cons: The entire establishment needs renovation. The linen were dirty. All the cups for the coffee were dirty. Garbage and linen in the same place. My husband is a journalist. If he was not occupied he would have contacted the health authorities to close the establishment. Now we rely that you will not propose it to other clients.
