10.0 Excellent
Pros: An amazing place tucked away in a stunning yet quiet part of the Borders. The historic house sits at an amazing location, with plenty of walks and amenities to explore nearby (or along Abbey's way). We were in a lovely small room and the spa area, though small, is really nice, too (though quite busy at times as it is the only pool/sauna in the area). We had a delicious breakfast and an overall magical stay!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Generous space and dog friendly. Nice friendlylady at reception.
1.0 Poor
Cons: We had to change rooms because no care had been taken to clean the toilet and bath properly and the bed had been changed but left in a very poor presentation. Tea and coffee making facilities were dirty. Evening meal was not up to the standard that had been portrayed from reviews and information available on line. The vegetarian curry was extremely disappointing. Nowhere was there anything about allergies and the possibility that foods were nut free etc. Breakfast next day wasn’t good either. My smoked “poached haddock with poached egg” wasn’t cooked! The egg was hard poached and the fish was virtually raw. Not a good end to a somewhat disappointing stay. I don’t know how Dryburgh Abbey hotel I s included in top 10 hotels guide in Scotland.

Pros: Pool and location by the river tweed
Cons: Food and service was bad.

Cons: The water pressure on the shower was really poor, but there was a bath as well. The bathroom could do with a bit of tlc as the grouting and tap areas were quite discoloured.

The Philipburn Hotel, BW Signature Collection enjoys a peaceful and tranquil setting within four acres of beautiful woodland grounds and gardens. And soon, you could be enjoying it too! On the outskirts of the historic border town of Selkirk, this centrally located accommodation is ideal for touring places of local (and arguably national) interest including Floors Castle, Dryburgh Abbey, Abbotsford House (home of Sir Walter Scott) and Bowhill House and Country Estate (home of the Buccleuch Family). Family accommodation is available in the lodges and studio rooms situated in the grounds of the hotel, and whether it's a table for two or a family feast, our restaurant features fine dining menus using the best of local produce! Enjoy fishing on the River Tweed or walking, cycling and game shooting in the heart of the Scottish Borders, and be our guest.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was exceptional from start to finish. A very pleasant member of staff checked me in and showed me to my room. The room was stunning with a four poster bed, walk in closet, separate bathroom with a Jacuzzi bath and separate shower. Very clean and great little touches like a wireless charger for my phone etc. Breakfast was brilliant. Massive choice of freshly prepared food. I opted for the full Scottish breakfast which was divine. I work in the coffee industry and was pleasantly surprised with how good the coffee was that came with my breakfast. All round a brilliant hotel and brilliant value for money. I would have expected to pay much more for the quality and service given by this absolute gem of a hotel. I will definitely be back in the future.
Cons: There was nothing that I did not like.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was very comfortable and location excellent.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was 5 star
Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We had dinner, bed and breakfast, and everything turned out to be excellent - the food, the room, the service and the ambience. The location was on the outskirts of Selkirk and very quiet. Altogether a very pleasant stay, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Philipburn.
Cons: The cost was higher-end but then, one gets what one pays for. That aside, I couldn't fault the hotel.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was fabulous, spacious & comfortable. The local surroundings were peaceful & tranquil.
Cons: The accommodation , evening meal & breakfast prices were all just a little bit too high.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very pleasant overnight stay. Good breakfast and good value.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly welcoming staff. Breakfast was nice, enjoyed the porridge. Melrose itself is lovely and for a small place there are plenty of independent shops, coffee shops and restaurants available
Cons: The room was not enormous but for the price and our requirements it was perfectly adequate. No private parking available but we did not have a problem finding a place to park close by.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice spot in a lovely little town
Cons: It could get a bit noisy outside when we were there but it was New year's Eve!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff could not be more helpful in trying to give good service. Our room was quiet and comfortable with a lovely modern shower room. A taxi was ordered for us in very difficult circumstances. The breakfast was fine but the toast was cheap white bread. The beans went cold very quickly as did our plates. There was a huge choice of jams but some yogurt would have been nice with the cerial. We had dinner the night before and whilst it was nicely presented with a delicious side salad the main plates went off their heat quite quickly.
Cons: We did not like the music in the dining room. The TV was on constantly playing a pop music channel. We tried but could not change it! My whitebait at dinner was served with a thick creamy cole slaw rather than the lemon dressing that was advertised. Whitebait is an oily fish and neads quite a lot of lemon.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely area for a relaxing getaway. The staff were so lovely.
Cons: -
7.5 Good
Pros: The room was large and the hotel generally was traditional with a choice of dining areas. The food was excellent.
Cons: There was a number of issues concerning the room. The bath had a large crack which leaked water onto the floor. The toilet flush was temperamental. net curtains for privacy would have been useful as our room overlooked a busy road junction and by closing the main curtains it was difficult to see with low wattage lights. A little more attention to repairs and maintenance would improve the accommodation enormously.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great location great food and welcoming staff
Cons: Some bits need updating. A bigger TV in your room would be helpful plus one in the bar that shows sports.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The twin room we stayed in was comfortable and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was also very good.

Pros: I would have loved extra flakey croissants but they weren't on the breakfast menu....then again, there was no breakfast menu.
Cons: It would have been good to have a functioning shower & a hairdryer. My mum's room's toilet didn't flush & the macerator operated every 10mins throughout the night keeping her & our relatives in the room next door awake for most of the night.
