10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Easy to locate and park. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Room was well appointed and comfortable. The evening meal was fair.
Cons: I thought breakfast was disappointing. There were no cereals or fruit juices to-hand and there was a long wait to receive the cooked order, with nothing to eat while you waited. On receipt, I felt the bacon was overcooked and the rashers tiny in size. The poached eggs had an overwhelming presence of vinegar. I like to have cereal before my light cooked serving and this could easily be provided. There was no condiments available e.g. marmalade.
7.9 Good
Pros: The bed was comfortable and the bath was great
6.3 Good
Pros: Good location on the roadside just outside Ponteland. No road noise in the room when the windows are shut. Brilliant evening meal and fantastic breakfast too despite electricity issues.
Cons: Room 1 with Roll Top Bath is directly above the kitchen, which has a huge extractor fan, you can hear this constantly whilst it’s on and it doesn’t go off till after 11pm and is back on early morning. Roll Top Bath a lovely feature but very small, not much room for your feet unless your only 5ft. Room needs new pillows as no stuffing left in them! Minor things but unfortunately they had electricity problems whilst we stayed, power went off 3 times whilst we were getting ready. Came down to dinner and the bar had no electric. They turned away all customers apart from residents for dinner, which was just us. We had a really good meal but unfortunately no atmosphere due to the lack of music and other customers! We were then woken just before midnight to a constant alarm coming from the pub downstairs. Rang the duty manager and around 30 mins later the alarm was turned off. No apologies in the morning about the disruptive sleep. Fantastic breakfast but let down by the lack of decent coffee! Unable to pay our bill before we left but they are going to ring for our payment once they’ve got sorted with the electricity. Nice venue, shame about the issues and lack of apology for the interrupted sleep! We put up with a lot of little issues and paid £110 for one night, which was meant to be a relaxing child free night away for a birthday treat in the “fancy” room which didn’t live up to expectations!

Jesmond Dene House - Newcastle upon Tyne - Building
6
9.2 Excellent (1,066 reviews)
C$ 203+
Overview Reviews
Jesmond Dene House is a small, 4 AA red star privately-owned boutique-style hotel with 40 bedrooms that sits nestled within the wooded valley of Jesmond Dene. A country hotel setting yet only minutes from the suburb of Jesmond or bustle of Newcastle city centre and the quayside. The original house was Georgian, designed for a local doctor in 1822 by John Dobson who was responsible for many of Newcastles handsome streets. It was then developed in the late 19th century for Sir Andrew Noble, business partner to Lord Armstrong, the great Victorian inventor and engineer. The Grade II-Listed Arts and Crafts mansion was extended and enhanced until it was bought by Newcastle City Council in 1933. For the next 65 years, it had various uses, including being used as a college, Civil Defence establishment, seminary, and as a residential school. The building was in a very bad derelict state when it was bought, restored and then opened as a hotel in 2005. In addition to the bedrooms there is a 3 AA Rosette restaurant offering a selection of daily menu options ranging from breakfast and afternoon tea to A la carte dinner or Sunday lunch. Functions, weddings and business events can also be accommodated in a choice of four private rooms including the Great Hall, a spectacular, double-height room catering for up to 100 guests and with oak and silk wall panelling, Gothic windows, carved inglenook fireplace and minstrels gallery. The aim of the hotel, since opening, is to provide the highest levels of service, hospitality and food for both business and leisure guests, using local produce and suppliers where possible.

Pros: Nice friendly hotel Adjacent to hotel was an.extensive park to stroll around Wet room which gave us ideas for our own home in our advancing years
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location, very relaxing atmosphere, great service.
Cons: It was raining so didn’t manage to get a walk in Jesmond dene
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had fantastic room with beautiful views x
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Room was a decent size but that was because was a disabled room which I did not request.
Cons: Room was cold because the bathroom window had been left open. The television would only get Sky sports due to a fault and they said that they were waiting for the engineer to come to retune. Breakfast was not included and for the room price I would have expected it to be. Continental breakfast was £14 which seemed very expensive for a few pastries and Jam

Pros: We stayed for a family party that was catered for by the hotel. The food was excellent for the meal itself, and also at breakfast the next stay. The staff were great and looked after us really well over the whole weekend.
Cons: We booked 2 double rooms and one was much nicer than the other as it had been renovated recently. This is a minor grumble rather than a complaint!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Charming period property, immaculate decor, with modern tastefully decorated rooms. Bathroom spotlessly clean with underfloor heating. Very cosy, relaxing and homely feel.
Cons: Only a minor criticism - two car parks but both almost full with visiting diners when we arrived mid-evening. Luckily found the last available space in rear car park but had to walk round the poorly lit area with luggage, searching for the entrance. Staff in the restaurant did spot us however, and came to open a back entrance door for us.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room was clean and exactly what we needed for an overnight stay in Newcastle. Hotel decor is great and looks clean and tidy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Extremely chic, location is perfect. For the price I’m paying expected more, but everything was just so perfect
Cons: I really liked it
9.4 Excellent
Pros: Clean, walking distance to everything and night security
Cons: The room was very tiny
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel, receptionist Was very friendly and informative, wonderful decor, rooms small but did the job. Great location.
Cons: came back to the hotel and decided to have a drink at the bar before heading up to bed. Ordered two cocktails at £8.50 a piece and the bar staff explained that he wasn’t too sure how to make the cocktails so for us to take a seat and he’d bring them over to us. We didn’t mind this, everyone has to learn, but when they arrived they were not how they should be at all. I ordered a passionfruit martini and this was simply vodka and syrup mixed, no garnish and no side of Prosecco. A different member if staff came on to the bar so we ordered more drinks and again when they came, no garnish as advertised. Didn’t say anything to the staff as didn’t want to make a fuss. They were drinkable but just of a low standard for the price we paid for them
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very central 2 minute walk from Monument station
Cons: Location and comfort
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It has a very modern feel, clean and helpful staff The room was a bit smaller than others but there is plenty of space downstairs in the bar / lounge area if you need it
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location of this property is 5*. Literally walk around the corner and your in the middle of the Newcastle town. The staff were extremely friendly and let us leave our suitcase at the desk until we had to fly even though we had checked out!
Cons: I booked a king size room, which when on arrival was to single beds pushed together! Not many channels on the tv. No fridge to put milk in if we wanted a cuppa in the morning. Not enough hanging space (had to live out of the suitcase) as could only hang 3 items up!

Cons: The names on doors was confusing when we were asked which room we where in..
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and atmosphere
Cons: Car park charge was a bit steep!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: I stayed for 8 days in a standard double room and 3 days in a superior double room. Both rooms were clean, tidy, quiet and comfortable. The superior room was outstanding. Staff were polite, helpful and prompt. The food in the bistro is excellent and also reasonably good value for money. The fish (cod, sole and kippers) were first-rate. The baths are enormous (reclaimed Victorian, I imagine) and wonderfully comfortable.
Cons: I'm a clean freak, so limescale and the odd spot of mould around bathroom and shower taps rankled with me. This could easily be fixed with limescale remover and a little brush every now and then. Pillows and mattresses were acceptable, but could have been better. One young, pushy waiter had a habit of engaging people in conversation about their choices of wine when they, and I, quite obviously would have preferred to have been left alone. Sometimes less is more.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Interesting building, very comfortable room; helpful staff; super food. We really enjoyed our stay.
Cons: Nothing!

Pros: Fantastic property lovey large comfortable room and bed very quiet and peaceful
Cons: Would have loved a bath as the bathroom was huge, also wasn’t aware from bookings that only continental breakfast but probably me not reading the small print
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I thought the people running the hotel were very friendly, the room was dressed period correct with the 4 poster bed. Loads of tea and coffee on hand. A little tricky to find in the daylight, but driving up to the electric gates makes you feel special before the experience even started. I would love to go back in the summer as the grounds I think would be spectacular
Cons: Breakfast was quite simple, it would have been nice to have a small choice of meats and cheese slices to go with the toast, or maybe bagel, but that is more because I am not a cereal fan.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really great atmosphere, cosy, clean, generously sized room. Friendly and welcoming staff. Convenient location, beautiful grounds. A good mixture of being an easy journey into the city and feeling as though you are in the countryside. Brilliant selection on the continental breakfast.
Cons: Nothing! The only small downside was not knowing where the gym was, but went for a walk along the gorgeous Keelmans way which is just a couple of minutes walk from the hotel instead.

5.4 Okay
Cons: Breakfast service in the restaurant was poor. No barrista coffee available.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel staff friendly and polite, very clean, nice breakfast and a relaxed atmosphere in the gin bar
Cons: Early hours Sunday morning at 1.10 phone ringing by the time I got to it the phone stopped I asked at reception when I went down for breakfast if it was a member of staff but she said it wasn't any of the night staff after that I was wide awake so didn't get a good night's sleep that night. But not the staff's fault.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Just love everything about the hotel
7.5 Good
Pros: Situation near train station, easy signage
Cons: Hi, there was several staff on reception when we arrived. I had requested a twin room as we two friends and not a couple. However, noone noticed. We went to 6th floor, only to find out it was a double bed. We rang reception whom offered another room on 2nd floor with a sofa bed. This is fine as we met the staff member with the key on the said floor. However no mention was made as to how we were to make bed up. No additional sheet/bedding was found. Therefore we had to make another call for this to be arranged ourself. Not much initiative i am afraid in an expensive hotel or lack of training.
7.1 Good
Pros: Very attentive staff and lovely service
Cons: The room seemed as if it hadn’t been wiped around services and things, missing items out of the mini bar etc
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Clean, very welcoming, I stay here all of the time.
Cons: Nothing

We avoided breakfast in the hotel and the hotel still tried to charge for it Suite had a standard double bed rather than a king or queen Hotel Bar tries to move guests around in Bar once settled at a table claiming tables not marked as reserved were reserved Generally a bad experience

Pros: I booked a room for my son and his new wife for the night they got married , I sent a message to the hotel beforehand to tell them they were newlyweds and if possible to give them a little bit of special treatment. They gave them a fabulous room overlooking the river and bridges . They scattered petals on the bed and left them a bottle of chilled bubbly ! Absolutely amazing hospitality. Pros: We loved the warm homely feel of the place, it allowed our visit to see our son more enjoyable and relaxing because we were more relaxed. Travelling from London and sleeping at our sons’s home can be tiring and more stressful for us all because lack of space. We have now found the answer at Riding Farm. Believe me when I say anyone who is wondering where to stay in this area, please consider Riding Farm first, you will not be disappointed.
Cons: Absolutely nothing at all.

Pros: Friendly family run business. Beautiful location. Rooms comfortable and clean. If needed anything only had to ask such as sweetners for the room. Useful folder with local information of restaurants, shops and local attractions with easy to read maps, nice touch. Recommend visit to living museum Beamish, stunning.
