10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect. Staff were very nice, caring and helpful. The food was exceptional. Onsen was really good too.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff are all very friendly and thoughtful. Their warm smile has added much value to our stay. The gentleman receiving us speaks good English so there is no obstacle in communication. The onsen hotel is nicely decorated. Compared to other large hotels in the neighborhood, this relatively small one has successfully created a tranquil environment, making it a good place for rejuvenation. It will definitely be our choice if we pay visit to Gero again.
Cons: There is a bit of walk to the outdoor onsen so it will be quite cold in snowing season. But it is offset by the many good points of the hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is arguably the best accommodation we’ve had in our trip. Much more personalized than the other five stars hotel we’ve stayed in. Go with the room with private onsen, it is worth every penny!
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: comfortable room condition, nice and cozy onsen, very nice service.

Pros: everything is great
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Everything was superb. We had the best nights sleep I can remember. 5 star +
Cons: Cost, although the stay was splendid it was expensive. Crazy man at the front taking bags and shoes had poor communication skills.

Pros: Very traditional hotel with clean room and good service.
Cons: Smell in room
7.1 Good
Pros: Comfortable Onsen hotel - room is clean and tidy. breakfast & dinner - very good The outdoor and indoor onsen are good.
Cons: the room rate is very expensive.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: good view awesome hot spring good service
Cons: The facilities in room is a little bit old.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Recommend to stay in the original old building, not the annex, has tones of character.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Ryokan has an unique atmosphere because of it's traditional design and pleasant ambient smell. The food was really good, there were many types of onsen to enjoy (outdoor, indoor, for family, in the room) and the staff was very friendly.
Cons: To be honest, I expected the room onsen to look a little prettier, but I could really enjoy it either way. It was nice that it was next to a very big window which could fully open to feel more like outdoor onsen and I was pleased to see the night sky and some stars while enjoying the room onsen.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: excellent food and was the best compared my others 9+ ranking Onsen hotel during the trip
Cons: none
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Room was very comfortable and had all the amenities one could ask for. In particular the room heating was very effective compared to other ryokans we've stayed in (for winter), and the separate kitchenette (drinks preparation area) with free mini bar was a nice touch. Service was excellent all round, food quality and variety was outstanding as well. Location was a mix - its a bit away from the main town center and train station, which has pluses and minuses. Need to use the hotel shuttle for transport (and they are always ready to do so) but quiet location away from any crowds. On the major plus side, the ryokan is just across the road from the Gero Gassho village which is a nice place to visit. Have done many ryokan stays across Japan and this is definitely near the top of the "best stay" list.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel staff was super helpful, our train got cancelled on us because of the heavy rain, we called the hotel and they were able to book us on the bus shuttle. Thank you!
Cons: A bit lost if you don't speak Japanese, but that's everywhere in Japan.
7.5 Good
Cons: Check out time too early 10am
8.3 Excellent
Pros: onsen in room, great service, good food.
Cons: A bit higher price
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Good services from staffs
Cons: Small property
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Before Trip: The staff proactively contacted us ahead of time to arrange for station-to-hotel transportation. As both my partner and I do not speak Japanese, prior arrangements in English is very helpful. They have also helped us book a local ceramic class the next morning for experience. During the Stay: The location is slightly far away from the station, but I would say the area was quiet and beautiful. Even though we missed a train and arrived to the station 2 hours later than initial estimated time and supposedly missed the comprehensive dinner serving time, they were still able to arrange transportation and meal for us. Their staff is truly accommodating and welcoming. Meal: The comprehensive dinner and breakfast were above standard. I would definitely recommend every to get the package with meals included Onsen: I have only used the public outdoor onsen. Although it was not as huge I would imagine, but it is still good for it size, clean and cozy. Pricing: Although this place is relatively more expensive than other onsen Japanese style hotels. I think the price paid is very much worth it.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent service, delicious breakfast and dinner
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Right next to Gassho Cillage about 3 mins walk. And close to the river. The room was so great and dinner was delicious. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very efficient and welcoming despite the language difficulties. The room is quite spacious and the hot springs are clean and roomy. The outdoor hot spring was quite enjoyable. The dinner was unexpectedly delicious although we ended up having too much to eat!
Cons: There is only one shuttle bus every hour or so and we had to wait at the stay to get picked up an hour later. Wouldn be good if the hotel can advise better before turbulence trip.

Overview Reviews
Situated centrally in Gero hot spring village, which is ideal for tourism, we urge you to come and leisurely realx with us.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Traditional Japanese room
Cons: Bigger onsen
9.2 Excellent
Pros: They're a bit far from Gero station, around 1 km away. The owners recommended us to contact them via tourist information to pick us up. Also help us carried 2 big luggages up to 2nd floor (they don't have elevator.) The Onsen separates Male and Female, opens 16:00-09:00 on the next morning. Onsen itself quite good, nice temperature, having both indoor and outdoor.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were all very friendly and eager to help with everything you might need. The room is huge for two people and the futons were extremely comfortable. You also geta yukata to walk around the property, which we found very convenient. The onsen was small but very cozy. I went there twice and I was all alone the whole time, so I could relax by myself. The traditional Japanese breakfast was tasty and plentiful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: They were so very kind and hospitable. I had a great time with my family there. The hot spring outside/inside was tiny but very cute. You can take a bath after midnight(apparently most Ryokan close their spa at midnight).
Cons: The rest room smelled a bit from time to time. It was a little cold but they brought us an extra heater so it was fine.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The onsen is so beautiful. We were able to do family onsen which makes it so much more enjoyable. The dinner and breakfast were in private rooms. It feel I can enjoy the dinning so much better. The food was excellent. I also loved the traditional room. We had the sleeping area plus a living room. The property is so pretty, and I also enjoyed the message recliner. I would highly recommend this place.
Cons: I loved everything. They also will pick you up and drop you off at the station.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Lovely family run business. Traditional whilst being friendly. Food is delicious. Onsen is hot and relaxing. A must do experience, Gero is a lovelt quirt rural town with plenty of public onsens and foot spas. Open air public onsen near the bridge is fun. Bring sakè.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location is a bit far from the Station, but that was a good excuse for a healthy walk through the city. (the hotel can arrange transport on request though) The staff were exceptionally friendly. Breakfast was delicious. The hot spring bath was also great. (they have both inside and outside bath)
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Bedding provided is comfy. Nice onsen with outdoor pool. Limit parking space. Downside is there is no lift as room are on 2nd floor. Staff assisted in moving the luggages when check in and check out.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The onsen of course! They gave me a coupon for a local onsen and I had also used their in door onsen. The onsen water in Gero is very good. The breakfast is excellent quality, wish I can have more gohan. :D The next day when I checked out it was snowing heavily, the lady owner is kind enough to give me a ride to the train station. Arigato!! I had a great time in such an authentic ryokan.
Cons: The room is too big for a solo traveller lol... hallway is a bit cold without the heater, guess the heating bill for such big ryokan is expensive.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We felt like we were visiting family. The staff was so welcoming. The food was the best! Loved the onsen. The only reason I didn’t rate the the beds higher is only because we’re not use to sleeping on the floor. But, staying in a ryokan, we wanted to experience it to the fullest.
Cons: I can’t think of anything we didn’t enjoy.

Bad experience. Not recommended!

Pros: All the staffs were extremely friendly and cheerful. Comfy room. Gorgeous in-room dinner and breakfast. Special thanks for ordering the cake for my mom's birthday, its was really good my mom enjoyed it so much.
6.3 Good
Cons: The dining experience was quite a disappointment. We didn’t have the usual relax and enjoyable experience as we would normally have. The server seems to be very busy and tried to rush through the set up. The onsen was also a disappointment. The outdoor one was a small tub which can only fit 4 people max comfortably. the building and rooms are also fairly old and need touch up.
6.7 Good
Pros: The landlady and the gentleman who picked us up are super nice and friendly. The hotel is not too big, but facilities are so far so good. Meals prepared by hotel are good and delicious.
Cons: 1) in room dining must follow their schedule, not flexible 2) the Chinese guy at reception was showing less patience to my fiends’s requests 3) if all staffs can improve their English, for better communication or understanding

Cons: Up the hill, so if you have mobility issues, this is not the place for you.

Pros: The outdoor onsen was nice, . The dinner buffet was nice, we enjoyed the quality of the food but the 1,5 hour limit was too pressuring for us and we didn't enjoy a relaxing dinner as we hoped for. The view from the hotel was good and the hotel provides a shuttle bus. The hotel staff was very responsive, but they only responded in Japanese when communicating prior to check-in. In the hotel you can communicate in English.
