Pros: The garden was beautiful and fragrant. Lots of comfortable outdoor seating in front and back. Coffee room was great, and really had anything you'd need. I can't express enough how clean this entire Inn is. And how comfortable we were. I'd give it more stars if I could!!! Owners are very nice and accommodating. Walking distance to everything. Great location. Bed was very comfortable!

Pros: There were plenty of very pleasant spots for our group to gather on the property as we were moving between activity to activity in Nevada City and the surrounding area. Ron and Julie were available to help us out with travel tips and more. We stayed in the one downstairs room which was quite lovely and handy if one has challenges with climbing stairs. The Inn is located in walking distance of the quaint Gold Rush town of. Nevada City.
Cons: Nothing not to like. We were in Nevada City on a particularly warm day, but our room was pleasantly cool.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice breakfast setup. Good location, right at the edge of town. Proprietors friendly and helpful. Nice rear garden with comfortable chairs and sofas.
Cons: Steps to upstairs rooms would be difficult for elderly, but it is an old Victorian.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nevada City is a little gem of a place, and the overnighting experience that Judy and Ron offer is as good as we have enjoyed anywhere. The location is idyllic, a beautiful period home in a lovely neighbourhood and just the shortest of walks to the pleasant and interesting old town. The building is in immaculate condition and has lots of character, lots of nice personal touches. The room was great. Everything was great. We much appreciated the helpful tips as to where to visit in the area.
Cons: Having to leave. Seriously, this is a great place and the high rating that Judy, Ron and their team receive is thoroughly earned.

Pros: A very nice, clean inn a few minutes walk from the shops and restaurants of the historic district. The owners run the place and are very friendly and accommodating. Our room was cozy and comfortable, the grounds are beautiful and welcoming.
Cons: The bed in our room was too soft for me, but I like a firm mattress. And I saw another guest write that their mattress was too firm so there you go :-)

Pros: It was great in every way
Cons: Nothing
1.0 Poor
Pros: The location is decent, but loud and across the street from a large shopping mall with diesel trucks constantly driving by.
Cons: Checked into the room and the door was left wide open. The room was dirty and made all of the bottom of our socks black. I"ve never had that happen before at any hotel. The air conditioning unit smelled like mildew and was very loud. Terrible experience!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: this hotel is beautiful and there are stores and restaurants near by. The surroundings are gorgeous and, even though you are "in town," there is still an outdoorsy feel. I would definitely stay there again.
Cons: The Wi-Fi was terrible. I had to just turn off my Wi-Fi setting and use my own data plan. Also, there is no elevator, so if you are unable to climb stairs you will need to be sure to inform at reservation or check in.
7.0 Good
Pros: Location was great for our needs. Breakfast was convenient and satisfying. Room was fairly quiet. Appreciated the amenities. Pool and hot tub were very relaxing. The bed was comfortable.

6.8 Good
Pros: The rooms were modest but clean and comfortable. Breakfast was coffee and a roll. The exterior definitely needs to be worked on. Very shabby. However, I left my iPad there accidentally and they were very helpful and called me to return it. The place has potential.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Convenience was the best, You are working hard so keep it up, you have a way to go and I see progress,
Cons: Clean shower, curtain rod was falling down over sliding doors, reception on Sunday morning was completely unhelpful and disinterested in helping. Saturday check in person was nice and helpful.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Safety is a foremost concern and the location provided that. The accommodations were what I expected.
Cons: House keeping/cleaning was consistently way below expectations. I was told, by the, I guess lady in charge of housekeeping that there was a do not disturb sign on the door, which is why the room was not cleaned, there was not. I was told that I would receive a discount upon check out, instead the lady again argued that the room had not been cleaned because the do not disturb sign was on the door; there was no do not disturb sign in the room to put out. She was very argumentative. In fairness there was a gentleman who provided us the items we were lacking and was very helpful.
6.8 Good
Pros: Pool was great. Remodeled room was good. Location has places to eat near by. “Big A Burger” excellent. Great coffee at “Durgas Divine cafe” walking distance. Our stay was pleasant.
Cons: Bed kept sliding (on a bed frame without sides). Sounds from outside was a bit noisy but for a lodge I guess that is what to expect.
7.5 Good
Pros: Extremely clean. Housekeeping staff was very friendly and considerate.
Cons: No blow dryer in the room! :-( Was not told where the ice machine was and had to go looking for it. There was some construction going on, but the AC drowned out the noise.
4.5 Okay
Pros: The beds were comfortable. Plenty of clean towels! Happy there was a working refrigerator and microwave.
Cons: No carpeting! No chair to sit on. Small room. Air conditioner that didn’t work well.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The place has a nice relaxed feel, staff was very friendly and helpful, and, it has a pool! Great shower and plenty of hot water.
Cons: AC blows over bed, fixable with placing a chair in front of it. All else was good.
4.5 Okay
Pros: The breakfast was "continental" as promised and available at the stated time. The staff was friendly and helpful. Great selection on the TV but I'm not a big TV watcher.
Cons: Somebody else mentioned "shabby" as a description of the overall condition. Looks like they are taking baby steps to brighten it up. Still, the walls had dirty spots; the tub has seen better days and the bathroom floor was sticky.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Pool was a highlight as it was very hot when we arrived. Room was large & comfortable. The included breakfast was adequate; sachet of oatmeal you add hot water to, a banana, a pastry & coffee you make yourself with a pod in a machine.
4.8 Okay
Pros: They are under new management. No hot water. No heat. Nice staff. Because of all of the trouble, they gave me another free night.
Cons: Same as above
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: The pool
Cons: Run down
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean and simple. Good location between Nevada City and Grass Valley
Cons: Aging facility but A/C was working very well.

Overview Reviews

5.0 Okay
Cons: Needs a cosmetic upgrade. The breakfast, included, was awful.
7.5 Good
Pros: We stayed in the Chalet. It was decent and I liked the kitchen. We heard the waterfall from our deck. It was very relaxing and loved the woodsey feeling. Breakfast was good! We were pleased!
Cons: Things were a little run down but we did enjoy our stay and enjoyed the grounds and property there.
6.8 Good
Pros: We had a cabin. Liked the balcony very much . A little table out there would have been nice but we managed with a dining chair to act as our table so we could eat lunch out there. Room was clean but Someone needs to learn how to make a bed. My feet fought with extra sheets at the bottom of the bed. Obviously not made properly.
Cons: The breakfast was a disaster. Poor guy who worked alone, or no one else seemed to be there but maybe someone was preparing food. This guy had to run! And he almost did. He seemed afraid to lift his head up so as not to meet anyone’s eyes. We arrived at 9, posted breakfast till 10. Nothing to choose from. Oatmeal was almost cement. No eggs. No potato’s. Fruits gone, but then that poor single employee showed up with a nice fresh bowl. The food area was disgusting, no napkins, coffee gone. But it was totally management issue. Poor management. You need employees people! I’ll stay somewhere else next time. This was my third or fourth stay there. It use to be a gem! No longer.
7.7 Good
Pros: Clean room, nice setting, breakfast good
Cons: Poor WiFi reception, very poor tv reception, not enough glasses or coffee in the room for 3 people.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was fantastic, location was amazing.
Cons: Rooms are a little dated.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fjront desk attendant very polite and helpful room was very roomy very quiet and gorgeous surrounding
Cons: No complaints
6.8 Good
Pros: The setting is superb. Beautiful huge pine trees throughout the location. Couldn't ask for a better setting. The breakfast was good with seating either inside a trolley car or outside on deck in beautiful area. Lots of food and usual breakfast variety. The staff was very nice and polite and understanding.
Cons: OMGoodness. This beautiful tree setting is destroyed by poor owner decision not to update. The rooms are old, not updated and just not nice. Toilet had rings on it so no telling how long it wasn't cleaned. Chair was missing the large back cushion. The pool was empty last year AND AGAIN this year which is a deal breaker for a family reunion. We were told last year they were remodeling and believed them. This year WAS our last. We scouted out a new hotel with a pool and spa to book next year. We even went and looked at it out of fear it might be of similar quality to Northern Queen. Lots of money needs to be poured into this motel to update it and bring it back to what it could be. Look elsewhere.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The proximity to down town was great. Close enough to walk if you wish to do so. The breakfast was very good. Eggs, bacon, pastries, fruit, coffee, orange juice and more I may have forgotten. The room was very large. The bathroom sink/counter was huge! We enjoyed having all that space to make coffee and spread out our belongings. There was a mini fridge that was of the larger style. The hotel is nestled in the woods, yet in town! Beautiful property. There is a small meadow where you could have a wedding. The hotel has a "railbus" stop on the property which takes you to the train museum. Northern Queen guests have preferential rides, as others may have to be on "standby". We thought the train or "railbus" ride was fun. The young man that checked us in was very nice. The woman who checked us out was also very nice.
Cons: There was no microwave, which was disappointing. The property is old and need of maintenance. It was a bit musty in our room. The bathroom pocket door did not work properly. There was no screen on the bathroom window, mosquitoes came in, so we closed it. Even with these issues, it would not stop us from staying there again, but we hope the owners might spend a little and fix things up a bit.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Nothing, service on that place sucks, no breakfast, they’ve sent me to Best Western to get breakfast, that put me back on my agenda.
Cons: Get breakfast on time, get better tv cable service, tv looks imagine horrible.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: The scenery was nice but that was honestly the only good thing about this place.
Cons: Furniture was stained and dirty, dirty towels, rooms smelled like cigarettes, bed was in terrible condition (could feel the springs in your back), carpets dirty (finger nail clippings from previous guests scattered), coffee was moist in package and unusable, countertops were sticky and unclean, food particles left in sink, etc.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Didn't eat the breakfast. Location is quiet but right off the freeway and easy to get to.
Cons: It's not super fancy or posh, but quite adequate.
7.0 Good
Pros: Setting was beautiful among the big pines. It even has a waterfall!
Cons: No blackout curtains so lights from parking lot made our room bright all night.

Cons: Some of the in room furniture could use a deep cleaning (table chairs).
6.3 Good
Pros: Bed was fine, pillows were not. Water pressure was low, shower took longer than necessary. Could use hooks and shelves in the bathroom.
7.5 Good
Pros: It’s a funky little motel in the trees. If you’re coming from the South, it’s a very quick turn into the driveway, easier from the North with its own left turn lane. It was convenient enough for us to get to places we wanted to be in Grass Valley and Nevada City.
Cons: Not for you if you’re looking for luxury. The room had a mini fridge and a microwave. It also had rust on the tissue dispenser and a broken towel rack. Still, it was clean, and when we forgot our own pillow in the room, the owner was very gracious about letting my son back in to get it when he came back after we had checked out and had lunch.
6.0 Good
Cons: Room had bad oder. Bed and pillows are tired.
6.8 Good
Pros: This classic motel in the pines has a beautiful location. On the plus side, they have a beautiful shaded area between the motel and the (nice) pool where you can sit surrounded by pines and enjoy the cooler temps prevalent at this altitude. Food delivery is available from several area restaurants.
Cons: The place is pretty run down. The bathroom exhaust fan was long gone, and one of the two lamps was broken. Bed springs quite noticeable in the mattress. Kind of expensive for the quality of the accommodations. And the "Continental breakfast" was just coffee and a small prepacked Danish.
1.0 Poor
Pros: Nice location and convenient to get to.
Cons: Non-smoking room smelled of musty smoke, duct tape covering light switch, missing grout in bath tub. Had to cancel and find another hotel at twice the cost at 10:00 at night.
6.3 Good
Pros: Not far from Grass Valley. Mostly clean, though old.
Cons: Place really shows its age! Stains on chairs, lumpy bed, broken fixtures. Hasn't been kept up.
7.0 Good
Pros: The location and the grounds were great. It was very convenient to the event we were attending. The staff was awesome!!
Cons: The room needed major updating. We were upstairs. The stair rails were lose. The morning sun shone in the window and the curtains were ancient. There were large gaps allowing the sun in!! The beds and pillows were so hard and lumpy.
5.5 Okay
Pros: The staff and the grounds
Cons: Needs cleaned up out side too
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Location to town.
Cons: Improvement in housekeeping needed. Improvement in in-room repairs needed. Non-smoking room reeked of cigarette smoke on 2nd move from top floor room for 80 year old. Needed 3rd room move to find a non-smoke room. Many minus compromises for price break
5.8 Okay
Pros: Excellent location on Highway 49.,Beautiful spot in nature. We sat out by the pool a nice shady place, Sheets clean. Pleasant & helpful staff.
Cons: needs TLC. New towels, carpet, paint . Bathroom door would not close. Towel rack for hand towel. No answer from office when I called trying to get help to turn on the TV. Pool needs repair, new siding. Water clean, walls looked very worn. No non pet rooms for allergy suffers. remnants of old putting green. Ash trays outside my non smoking room
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: The staff was nice
Cons: Place needs to be cleaned

4.3 Okay
Pros: NOTHING!
Cons: No housekeeping after first night--room not made up. Desk clerk explained that housekeeper could not make up all the rooms in her 8 hour shift. Other guests were sleazy-- next door neighbor was smoking marijuana in nonsmoking room! Cinder block construction -- very noisy with TV, foot traffic. My TV did not work at all. Barking dog next door and heavy traffic noise. Worst motel experience in decades!
4.5 Okay
Pros: Very out of date! TV was old school, and on its last leg, did not work well, needs replaced. Room was very small, not enough outlets, had tv, microwave and fridge all hooked up to the same outlet with a power strip. Old carpets, bathroom has old sink and shower tile needs replaced. Overall the hotel was a &39.00 a night place but they charge $100.00 a night. Poor value for the money. No ice buckets. Everything else is chained down. Staff was excellent doing all they could with what they had.
Cons: See above.
5.0 Okay
Pros: I like the town it was in.
Cons: Room was very old, tired and in need of repair. I can’t say it was the worst room I ever stayed in, but it was a close second. Very unclean and uncomfortable. We couldn’t wait to leave in the morning. Price was too high for such a disappointment.
4.5 Okay
Pros: The location was close to my work.
Cons: The bed was very uncomfortable, no coffee machine, the bathroom had no toilet paper holder, the hot water took 15 to 20 minutes first thing in the morning to get hot, the room was small and dark, there was no soap or other amenities, the bathroom door's hinges were damaged and the door would not shut properly .
6.3 Good
Pros: The bed was very comfortable
Cons: Asked for a handicap room bathroom was not handicap at all no handrails he had to step over a foot curb to get into the shower one chair in the room was on rollers like a desk chair

7.0 Good
Pros: Shower; bed was comfortable.
Cons: Any critters could crawl under the door; very poor lighting; poor excuse for pillows; not enough towels and wash cloths; no place to hang clothes; no number on our door; some of the concrete stairs to the second floor were broken; door frame broken out; T/V hard to operate; some of the rooms stunk when you walked by them because of dirty full time residents; expensive for what you got.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: The place is very bad, I would not let my dog stay there
Cons: Everything
5.0 Okay
Pros: This place is conveniently located in Grass Valley and not too expensive
Cons: Sadly, the room itself was not wonderful. The toilet seat lid wobbled; the shower head fell off; the shower wouldn't turn off completely - dripped all night .
5.8 Okay
Pros: Manager was nice
Cons: Room needs updating. Bed was uncomfortable
4.5 Okay
Pros: Not much to likeep at all
Cons: Towels ware stained. Pillows were tiny and probably 10 years old. Room smelled like a public restroom that had been smoked in. The deadbolt on the door was missing.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Plain and simple but clean. The staff were pleasant , courteous and very professional. If you simply need a quiet place to rest at the end of a busy day, this is the place for it. The thing I absolutely liked the best is the fact that they keep a box of food items in the office for folks less fortunate than most. I quickly placed all remaining food goods we had brought for our trip in the box when we departed.
3.8 Mediocre
Cons: Ceiling was falling down, room was old and not very clean. Place was more of an extended stay motel than expected. Price was way too much for value. In my 68 years I have never stayed at a worse hotel.
4.3 Okay
Pros: manager never said anything about breakfastcover in someway the hole
Cons: cover the holes from the door frame to give security. Cover the broker area of the air conditioner. Cover the horrible hole in the sink. Change the bath tab drain. Fix the light in the bathroom so when you turn on the light does not make so much noise the fun and you can have light in the bathroom. Once in a while clean the room so the lent and hair doesn't create spider webs in the corners of the room or under the counter. Defrost the fridge when you rent the room to another person so we do not ended all soak when we unplug the fridge so we can sleep because it was too noisy.
1.0 Poor
Pros: Close to center of town
Cons: We had to bring dirty towels down to office for clean ones! The room was never cleaned or tidied up! the bedclothes smelled of cigarette smoke!
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Dirtiest hotel we’ve ever been to. Body fluids all over the walls.
Cons: Dust on every surface. Crackheads and junkies in every other room.
7.0 Good
Pros: Cheap and clean
Cons: Not for $---.
4.5 Okay
Pros: Location, friendly staff. I think the new manager is trying to improve the property but she has a ling way to go.
Cons: Bed could have been level

Pros: Good location
Cons: The cottage smelled horrible. The tv was like about 12 inches...didn't know they made them that small. There was no linens for the pull out couch (one bed, three adults) and when my son went to office they threw him a blanket. When I went to turn in keys, no one answered so they had to be left in the room. Oh yes, and I talked to another gentleman who was trying to turn in keys and he said he had no bathroom tissue. Very, very overpriced!!
6.0 Good
Pros: Good location, friendly staff.
Cons: continental breakfast was small with only a few items. No place to sit and eat your breakfast, had to take it back to the room. The room small and old. The bathroom was very cold with no heat able to get in there if the door was closed.
5.8 Okay
Cons: We made the reservation for my husbands brother for a cottage for 3 nights they gave him a room not the cottage and the told him after 2 night told him his reservation was up. Not happy about the situation with them
1.0 Poor
Pros: Beautiful location
Cons: Horrible run down room. Mold and slime in bathroom. Cracked walls. No soundproofing, you could hear the conversation in the other room like they were in my room. Old tv. Cords and outlets everywhere. See through curtains. Everything was filthy!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Pleasant and helpful staff, good location, running area for our dog, car parked next to room.
Cons: There was a lot of noise when we were there, but no fault of the motel or staff.
7.0 Good
Pros: Location was good. Nice old fashioned motel
Cons: Thin walls. I could hear the neighbors
1.0 Poor
Pros: Location was woodsy, close to Old Town Nevada City, Staff was friendly and helpful
Cons: This motel is run down and in disrepair, and does not look as nice as the photos on their website! The rooms smell musty and stale, there was plaster falling off the ceiling, the windows would not lock, and the beds were very uncomfortable! Awful!
6.8 Good
Pros: Nice staff. Quiet location.
Cons: Slow draining sink. Leak under the sink. No counter in bathroom to put your stuff. Very old TV and no channel guide.
7.5 Good
Pros: coffee good. Not the type of breakfast i eat.
Cons: it was ok. A standard experience
7.5 Good
Pros: Staff was friendly and attentive to our needs. Thank you Robert!
Cons: They appear to be in the midst of remolding, so it was a bit messy around the grounds. I'm very interested in coming back and checking out the cabins.
6.8 Good
Pros: The room was adequate, with minimal but functional amenities.
Cons: Flatly and rather curtly refused early checkin, without explanation.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: There were homeless people living near, The rooms were dirty, Lampshades were smeared with dirty hands or something, the curtains were filthy and not all hanging properly. The "NEW" Tv was not set properly. The carper filthy. Thin walls could hear neighbors, looks like peoples cars had been there for awhile, cobwebs on cars. And peoples care like they were living in cars. AWFUL will not ever recommend there. They need to bulldoze it all down and start over. Get new staff and owners who truly care for it. I am a native of Nevada city and I am disgusted. With the right owners it could really be a cute place
Cons: See above
