Pros: A beautiful location, very peaceful, close to Bermeo. Ate three times in hotel because the evening dinner was excellent and good value for money. Selection of beers and wine is also first class.
Pros: We came back here after being here 2 yrs ago. What a nice place beautiful surroundings. Nice big rooms. A great big breakfast buffet that is included. Good dinner that includes wine with the price. Those are the things that brought us back. Do use your GPS to find the place it is in the country down a narrow road.
Pros: Great room quiet. Good information from the excellent staff about things to see it do around the area. A fabulous market on Mondays in Guernika.
Cons: The bath.... The water suddenly goes hot whilst having a shower and in trying to get out of the way slipped over - broke my toe on the overflow and whacked my neck on the end of the bath. Ended up in a heap with a 20 km bike ride to go to get to the ferry!!!! Aching neck for days. .......Let's hope they sort that pronto. Could be much worse
Pros: Beautiful location and room! The staff was so very helpful with information about sights around the property. Our stay was perfect!!
Pros: Quiet location. Friendly staff.
Cons: Quite a drive from Bermeo, so sure need a car to get there. Dinner was a bit of a disappointment... rather basic / lack of "finishing touch".
Pros: A fantastic welcome by wonderful staff. A lovely quiet rural location with some great views. Very environmentally friendly with a renewable heating source, green bathroom products and lots of local food. Great value for money.
Cons: The WiFi wasn't working which was nice in one way, but because there was very little phone signal meant that communication with family wasn't the easiest.
Pros: Beautiful place, fabulous setting. Very family friendly.
Pros: Everything, great place, location is amazing, the building looks brand new
Cons: Their description of rooms in booking was not precisely accurate, room have no kitchen, only apartments, but they changed ours to match the description, great staff
Located in Ibarranguelua, H&AP Rural Merrutxu is in the mountains, a 2-minute drive from Montecalvo Hondartza and 7 minutes from Laga Beach. Featured amenities include a computer station, dry cleaning/laundry services, and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Beautiful surroundings......rural lodging at its best.....great hostess
Pros: The location is off the main road but easy to find. The area is quiet yet close to roads that access other villages. The owners are wonderful people and really care about their clients. The suite we stayed in upstairs is huge with full kitchen. Everything was extremely clean with lots of small details such as soaps, lotions etc. We hope to bring other family members to stay again in this place in the future. The area is absolutely gorgeous and the owners told us all the places we should visit.
Cons: The Wifi was a bit slow at times but the owners had the Phone Company working on it while we were there...
Pros: The proprietors were very helpful and friendly
Cons: Initially problem with Wi-fi
Pros: Very friendly owners whose property is situated in a beautiful rural area.
Pros: Surrounded by winefields and a stunning coastline we stayed in this cosy and comfortable Casa Rural. After a friendly welcome we received a lot of great tips and tricks to see. We did them all and were stunned by the beauty of the region. The Casa Rural itself was very quiet and a good place to relax after all the sightseeing.
Pros: The hotel was in a beautiful area and the nights were so quiet and peaceful. The local beaches are beautiful.
Cons: This was not really a hotel but just some rooms. It was quite remote and rustic. Breakfast was offered but with a list of itemised choices to be pre-selected and every item costed (including each pat of butter!) We asked for help with finding food on our first night but were not really assisted properly. It was difficult to find any restaurants or shops nearby. As the area is very busy in August parking in nearby villages was difficult/impossible. I wanted to like this more but I feel that I made the wrong choice for our needs and it did not offer good value for money.
Pros: Location is nice, close to the beach and senderos (walking trails) and views of the vineyard on the property. Large room. Home made jelly we got as a present was a bonus.
Cons: The owners only speak Spanish, which was not a problem for us as one of us speaks Spanish, but could be challenging. They do make an effort to help out though. Dishes, cutlery etc seemed to have been forgotten when cleaning the room. Bed was not comfortable and squeaky.
Located in Ibarranguelua, Casa Rural Arboliz is by the sea, within a 10-minute drive of Laga Beach and Mount Ogono. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, luggage storage, and a library. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Very warm host, simple room but very clean and comfortable. Good strong shower. Great location. Basic breakfast but plenty to eat.
Pros: Good place to stopover. Nice view of the sea.
Cons: Door to room did not lock from the inside.
Pros: Located near the busy beaches, but also next to (literally on top of) a busy road. Can hear cars whizzing by at night and is disturbing. Small rooms. Shared kitchen is extra charge and is not well equipped. "Okay" place to stay if your in a pinch but definitely get the seaside room away from road.
Cons: Located near the busy beaches, but also next to (literally on top of) a busy road. Can hear cars whizzing by at night and is disturbing. Small rooms. Shared kitchen is extra charge and is not well equipped. "Okay" place to stay if your in a pinch but definitely get the seaside room away from road.
Pros: Beautiful location with view on the ocean, nice rural and comfortable accomodation
Pros: The owner goes the extra mile to make you comfortable.
The Hotel Atalaya is an ideal choice for travelers who want to take in the sights and sounds of Mundaka. This hotel makes a great place to kick back and relax after a long day of sightseeing.
Pros: Great location in a little fishing /surfing village, easy parking, beautiful little town, quaint character hotel with great charm. Fabulous local restaurant right next door.
Pros: Shower, bed, wifi, parking and location.
Cons: Have my doubts if the is no AC in Summer, if windows are opened it could be noisy.
Pros: The staff were very friendly. The rooms very spacious and clean
Cons: Floorboards above a little bit noisy from guests staying on the floor above
Pros: Excellent location & easy to access if driving, staff friendly & helpful. Short stroll to cafes, bars & restaurants.
Cons: Nothing. All was great
Pros: The location and the architecture of the building
Cons: The carpets on the floor of the room
Pros: Lovely old building in a great location. The staff were more than helpful - suggesting restaurants, organizing taxis, etc. Nothing was too much trouble.
Cons: It was all pretty good. Quite expensive though when breakfast was added. Shame there wasn't an option to eat in the hotel in the evenings - Mundaka has no restaurants (except maybe one out of town) that serves acceptable meals.
Pros: Hotel is fabulous, great location, spotlessly clean, fantastic breakfast and great staff. Excellent value for money too. Would highly recommend!
Pros: Very nice view, beautiful room, very confy.
The hotel is located right in the old part of Mundaka, a very quiet place, 200 m from the beach and 50 m from the harbour. The train station is 200 m, the bus station 100 m and the beach is approximately 300 m from the hotel. Bilbao is 35 km from the establishment and the airport is some 30 km away. The 19-room beach hotel has parking facilities, lift access to the upper floors, WLAN Internet access, a terrace and children's corner. Further facilities available to guests at this establishment include a 24-hour reception service, café, bar, TV lounge, restaurant, room and laundry services and a bike hire service. Centrally regulated heating and a balcony or terrace also feature as standard. A buffet breakfast is served each morning at the hotel. When guests get to Mundaka, they should take the road to the harbour and about 30 m after the crossing they will reach the hotel.
Pros: charming area by the sea, wonderful eco-ethos, solicitous & friendly staff, family owned. highly recommend.
Pros: Good location, breakfast was good and staff very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Rooms very basic and bath was very small.
Pros: Lovely cozy and only two min. from the waves. Quiet room and great breakfast. Unfortunately we had to leave a day before but i strongly hope to come back again.
Cons: nothing really.
Pros: Location beautiful (not just for surfers), hotel small and basic, but exceptionally clean with super friendly people and great eco-breakfast. Looking forward to my next stay...
Pros: The location, the very nice staff, the playground for children and the flexibility of the staff for us (pic-nique on the terrace etc.) thanks a lot ! Claire
Cons: Maybe the rooms are a bit small.
Pros: Quaint, very clean and conveniently located. The staff, especially María and Fidel were very nice and accommodating.
Pros: Close to everything
Cons: Mould in the bathroom. Lots of mould
Pros: It's right across from the famous Mundaka lefthander and serves a good breakfast, what more can you sak for ?
Cons: Old fashioned roll pillow.
Pros: Close to town, good value for money. Very helpful staff and clean, comfortable.
Cons: As it was a Saturday night there is a lot of noise from streets below and parking was a bit difficult to find when we arrived on Sunday afternoon. No waves
Pros: Organic food
Cons: Poor light in room
With a stay at Hotel Gametxo in Ibarranguelua, you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Playa de Laida and Playa de Carabineros. Planning an event in Ibarranguelua? This hotel has facilities measuring 430 square feet (40 square meters), including a meeting room. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Location and the view from our room and the patio area is amazing. Breakfast was great, lovely croissants, bread, cereals, granola, fruits, hams n cheeses, lovely coffee. Amazing shower, huge bathroom. Location though is just stunning. And to top it all off the resident cat and her litter of kittens were playing on the patio at breakfast time.
Pros: Quite remote but good view of sea but access to anywhere to eat was difficult. Nice people.
Cons: Noise - there were few people staying it being end of season but the build quality is not good so we could hear conversation , music and doors banging until too late. Its more like a motel really.
Pros: Very quiet! Comfortable place with a nice view.
Cons: Everything was good. You need to drive to places to eat but this is ok.
Pros: Good things first: The view over the bay, the Atlantic and the location are outstanding and wonderful.
Cons: But the hotel has seen it's best days some years ago. Man things are worn out such as the bathroom and bathtub. The breakfast is simple. No elevator, no helping hand for luggage to the 2nd floor. The personnel is not really attentive. Overall the price of 130€ plus breakfast is much too high compared with other very nice hotels in the Basque / Bilbao - Santander area.
Pros: Breakfast was good ...quiet.
Cons: Beautiful view but no lunch or dinner or snacks available. Nearest restaurant on the beach is 5 km away and only served sandwiches...kitchen only opens on week end. The room was small and a chair in the balcony was broken...the shower was very small... This hotel has a great view of the coast but the hotel itself is not great...needs of repair, scratches on the walls, weeds in front garden...
Pros: We liked how helpful & informative the staff were. Very willing to assist even if it wasn't necessary. Very trusting, they didn't have someone at the front desk at all times. (kinda Interesting not bad but different)
Cons: Breakfast was extra The Spa was extra We wanted to use the Jacuzzi but it was an added cost.
Pros: Beautiful views & pleasant outdoor area. Ample parking.Apartment was kept very clean with daily service.Reception staff were very helpful & kind.
Cons: We stayed in a ground floor apartment. It was very tired and decor dull & in need of painting. The sofa beds looked very old & uncomfortable. The double bed had a very poor mattress which sank in the middle. There was no hairdryer or Iron . The fridge was very poor with no door on its ice box so we could not store any frozen items. There was no freezer. The fire alarm went off during the night , but couldn’t find anyone to give us any information. One of the other guests told us it was a false alarm. The water pressure was very poor in shower .
Pros: The views, and the external spaces
Cons: Very isolated, and no offer of any evening food. Drink was on offer, but a bottle of local wine turned out to be very expensive, compared to what is available locally, well not so locally but in nearest town. Shower very small and outdated. Price per night compared poorly to many 4 star hotels in the region. However, it was full so the owner does not need to change any time soon.
Pros: The location and views from the room and terrace. Spectacular!
El Puerto Hotel is located in the centre of the pretty Basque port of Mundaka. A restored fisherman’s house, it offers free Wi-Fi and a terrace bar with harbour views. All of the rooms in El Puerto have satellite TV, heating and private bathrooms with hairdryer. Some rooms have views of the estuary. The Hotel El Puerto has a 24-hour front desk, and offers luggage storage. Staff will also be happy to offer advice on local sights. The town of Mundaka is popular with surfers, and is also ideal for fishing and diving. Bilbao is about 35 km away.
Pros: The view from the room of the small harbour and the surf breaking beyond. Even though it was above a bar the noise was not a problem. Great location to pop to the beach or swimming hole. Really nice atmosphere around the Harbour in the evening
Cons: The parking is tricky in town ( though we got lucky) and would have been nice to have a proper balcony for drying clothese
Pros: The staff put us in a much nicer room for the same price, it was very appreciated. Some rooms are much nicer than others. Location overlooking the port very good. Cafeteria is nice and convenient
Cons: Beds are not very comfortable, but ok
Pros: The location -right down on the harbour/port -is beautiful. A small family run hotel with attached bar and restaurant, beside another bar/restaurant and with a great other restaurant across the road make this a great holiday location. we were touring Spain for 3 weeks and ended up spending 5 nights here !
Pros: Hotel is small and privately owned, food in café was ok. Room was renovated. Owner was friendly. It is in the middle of the village, on the port and you have to walk over. So That's a charm.
Cons: There was only 1 wall outlet, it was in the bathroom. So That makes it a bit difficult to upload your devices. I paid extra for Seaview. But my room was on the second Floor, with a small ground window, so I had to bow to look outside, not worth the extra money.
Pros: exceptional location, well renovated old building port / ocean view nice atmosphere
Cons: slightly overpriced no breakfast included
Pros: Fantastic situation on the harbour side. Lovely place to sit and relax with a coffee or food. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was very clean and facilities were cleaned regularly. It was a popular place for locals to come which was lovely
Cons: Having to remove excess bedding every day as it was too hot. Like duvets and sheets would be a better option. Fresh orange juice at breakfast time was expensive- offering a breakfast deal would be good.
Pros: The owner was brilliant.. very easy to communicate & very accommodating.. the location was perfect & we loved all the action around. beautiful walks just a shame the surf wasn’t working. a must is the castle walk near Bakio. absolutely brilliant.
Cons: needed a small fridge ..
Pros: The view at the harbor is very nice, you can watch the sunset from your room. Food is nice and the room was very clean. Staff was very friendly, especially the owner.
Cons: You could think the rooms are a bit outdated. Also, there could have been more attention for small details (one of the two bed lights didn’t work, almost broken chair). However, it did not bother me and I’m sure they would’ve fixed it if I asked for it. You have to like a bit of noise from the terrace in the evening. If not, bring earplugs and you’ll be okay.
Pros: nice setting, also causing very noisy environment
Cons: expensive for a one star, breakfast & parking to be paid extra, should have been included

Pros: This hostel was hard to find but we were exuberantly welcomed and made to feel at home. The room was small but comfortable and located near the old town with the harbour and bars. There were no other facilities or breakfast, just the rooms but it was fine for an overnight stop and the owner couldn’t have been more helpful and kind.
Pros: The host was amazing! Super welcoming and let me come a bit early, as soon as the other people had checked out and he had gotten it clean, since I had a somewhat uncomfortable night the night before and desperately wanted a nap. Very communicative and helpful.
Cons: Nothing really. Well, the plumbing makes some weird noises, but I think that's just how it's set up. Not really a problem.
Pros: Great owner, very hospitable! Thank you!
Pros: Very nice, polite and helpful host. The room does meet your expectation. It is not a big deal, but it is perfect for what it is offering.
Cons: It is not the biggest room, or has the best soundproof, but it is not advertising itself in that way, so there is nothing I didn’t like.
Pros: Wonderful location, room decorated beautifully and Gotzon was the best. 10/10
Pros: Strategic location, very friendly reception
Cons: The bathroom shower wasnt flowing well, i didnt shower, there was water outflow pump which was very noisy while sleeping,
Pros: 8 mins walk from the train station and 6 mins from the bus station, very kind and supportive owner, huge room.
Cons: Shower could have been cleaner, not allowed to throw anything to the toilet.
Cons: Plumbing and noise levels
Pros: The owner was very nice and friendly. Both the flat and the room were modern, cosy, with soft relaxing colors. I kind of liked the tiny breakfast kit. Amazing location in terms of convenience, walking distance to pretty much everything.
Cons: The street down our window was quite noisy on a Friday night. The toilet was noisy too.
Pros: all of our stay

Free on-site parking is available and the BI631 Main Road is easily accessible. The hotel is a 15-minute drive from the picturesque San Juan de Gaztelugatxe Hermitage.
Pros: It was clean
Cons: I did not expected much since it was 2 star hotels, but still could it be better for how much does it cost or be cheaper.
Pros: Lovely entry salon on each floor with doors opening off to individual rooms. Nice balcony with views of the city. Very friendly staff member who had a good grasp of English and was very attentive. Lovely breakfast area.
Cons: A little difficult to find. Darker part of city.
Pros: The hotel was fine for our first night touring the Basque Region as Bermeo was not too far from Bilbao Airport.
Cons: We had to go to the very helpful tourist office for directions. It would have been good to have a map with the booking.
Pros: Very personal service, friendly and helpful. Beautiful rural location and yet only a short walk from the town.
Cons: It was all good, a different experience and felt very authentic for this part of Spain.
Pros: Hotel Txaraka is an excellent place to stay a few days if you want to discover the beauties of the Northern coast of Bizkaia, with the Gaztelugatxe peninsula, the Urdaibai biosphere reserve, the martyr city of Gernika, the local train to Bilbao, and last but not least the active fishing port of Bermeo. An excellent breakfast is served by the friendly owners and the hotel has all the facilities you need.
Pros: Free parking, internet, close to restaurants, town, friendly staff
Cons: 11euros per person for breakfast, ibis style prices but not the quality or the choice
