6.3 Good
Pros: Location near train station. Over not bad. A bit noisy because of trains but they stop running at about 11.30pm.
Cons: Hotel allows smoking in all rooms and the smell is obvious. There were posters that they were celebrating 25th year. Room interior showed it, especially the sofa. Hotel has only twin rooms which I found not adding to the comfort and enjoyment. In-house dining and drinks very expensive.
6.9 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: The ground floor entrance
7.9 Good
Pros: They have a Great breakfast. The staff was really super. They also have 2 super bartenders Koji & Mari. They have 3 in house restaurants, hmmm honestly not so great food and expensive for what it is. I would highly suggest no carpeting in the rooms for various cleanliness and sanitary reasons. The view from “my room” was not so great. The location is good having access to Kinetsu and great kocal Izakaya restaurants.
Cons: The room was clean and a very nice size. The carpeting was not nice. The beds were average. The rest was fine, and internet access was intermittent.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Free parking and onsen
Cons: The noise of train, even close the window still can hear the noise

9.0 Excellent
Pros: It is the most luxurious ryokan we visited, although the house is not particularly ancient or beautiful, the rooms are very big with a wonderful view on the wood. The food is very elaborated, a level of Japanese food you may get in five stars restaurant.
Cons: Communication may get a little complicated, expecially if you have specific food request, or if you want to get information prior to your arrival. It is a bit too expensive, especially if you compare it with other ryokan, on the other side it does not have the usual ryokan problems: is never cold, the view is amazing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We liked the quiet location. Surrounded by forested hills. Walking distance to a beautiful temple and its spacious grounds. Good taxi service and hotel staff.
Cons: Had truble communicating with the property via e-mail. Lack of English is the problem.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location, just next to many beautiful Shrins and Temples, but far away from everything else. Perfect place to rest, switch off and enjoy the nature. Very good breakfast and dinner, with very traditional way of cooking. The shared Japanese style bath is something not to miss, and even kids are allowed to join.
Cons: Communication is not easy, even though they try their best. The building looks very bad from outside, except for the entrance, it is quite old but well maintained; although the windows and doors would need some work, as during night when we had bigger wind, it was simply coming though the whole room, from the balcony door to the room door, just crossing our bed.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was fairly big, and the view was amazing. The welcome tea and cookie were a nice touch, and the dinner was exquisite! The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The complimentary wine after dinner was a nice touch. The breakfast was also very good and the server spoke English well and explained what everything was. All in all, this place is one I would recommend, but with one (rather important) exception which was that the onsen bath water was not hot. The night we arrived, we noticed that it felt not like usual Japanese bath water temperatures, and in the morning it was barely warm. This was so disappointing, so the Japanese woman in our group asked the front desk workers about it. They seemed surprised at first and almost seemed to not believe her (since no other guest had mentioned it), but upon check out, it had been checked, and we were given the explanation that the boiler had broken the night before and that is why the water wasn't hot.
Cons: The bath was very disappointing. The water, especially on the morning we departed, was not hot. We were told that the onsen water wasn't hot because of a broken boiler from the night we arrived. This was disappointing not only because we had an unsatisfactory bath experience, but also because the staff (the owner?) didn't seem to realize or care that a main reason we chose this ryokan was for an onsen experience, and she only apologized and didn't offer anything other than that. Even a token gesture of offering us another cookie would have been welcomed rather than just "I'm sorry. Shoganai." I don't think that is the kind of customer service that is expected at a rather expensive ryokan, and especially in Japan.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: From the greeting at the door to the personal service to our room and the call up for dinner on the old school rotary phone in the room, everything was amazing. The area is beautiful and the view from our balcony was amazing. Staying at Kakimotoya was a dream end and highlight to our Japan holiday. The food is excellent and personal service the icing on the cake. Love this place. Google suggests going to Sango station to get there, don’t! Although Sango is a quaint town, you’ll find it hard to get a taxi, go to Oji and taxi from there, it only cost 2000 Yen. And of course the amazing staff will order a taxi for you to get back.
Cons: Enjoyed everything, there is nothing not to like even if a couple of updates could be good.

Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby and luggage storage. This ryokan has 2 meeting rooms available for events. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Yamatoji has more spacious and comfortable accomodations than in many hotels I have paid twice as much for. The grounds are beautiful and situated in a beautiful part of the Japanese countryside. The breakfast, composed mainly of local vegetables, verges on haute cuisine (although it may not be to the liking of Westerners unaccustomed to washoku).
Cons: This is something travelers should be aware of rather than a criticism as such: Bus service to the nearest rail station is very intermittent, although it is only ten minutes by taxi, which amounted, in my case, to less than fifteen US dollars. (The staff graciously summoned a taxi for me.)
6.7 Good
Pros: The Japanese breakfast is good. The view would be good in Spring with all the Sakura trees in the hotel.
Cons: Location is far from station.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Japanese style room with nice views, very calm, excellent japanese style breakfast
Cons: No shower in the room,l

5.0 Okay
Pros: The staff tried their best to make our stay a better one.
Cons: This is a smoking hotel. The rooms are all smoky. We were moved to another room next door, which also had smoke. This is the first time that the room advertised on booking.com was completely different than what we got. The picture on booking.com was supposedly a bigger room with no toilet. We booked a room with bath and toilet and it was totally different from what was described as a room that can fit a maximum of 5 people. It was a small room barely enough for 2, and everything in it was old. They tried to cello tape the broken window screens. The bath had stains in it. Smoke seeped in through a large gap in the door. Let’s not even talk about the view. See pictures.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was really gentle and helpful (when they knew that I was going to visit Hasedera for morning religious service, they prepared everything and took me there by car. They offered to keep my luggage after checking out and showed me the river through the window of another facility). The rooms assigned to me, called 金剛 (delightful casuality as I was there for the temple), were clean and the bedding already prepared when I arrived. Both dinner and breakfast were exquisite (a set of traditional dishes with different preparation methods and colours). I had reserved the cheapest option available, but it included towel, yukatas, and sanitary products.
