Everything! The room, the view, the history, the wonderful staff!
The lobby had an essential oil diffuser that was very strong. I was very sensitive to the smell.
The staff here is extremely helpful and goes out their way to make sure you have what you need and are aware of all of the hotel's amenities. We received a couple of emails in advance of our stay and were warmly greeted. Guests are taken on brief tour of the hotel, which is gorgeous, upon arrival (accept their offer to take your luggage!) On the tour, you are offered seats at that night's dinner and Fado performance, which we did and it was pleasant and a good value. The performances were really excellent, but maybe not as authentic as what you'll find in the Alfama district. There is also a Roman bath downstairs with spa services, which looked lovely, but we opted not to try due to limited time. Our room was a decent size and comfortable, with windows that opened out over the street. Breakfast in the morning is a true event (you get a guided tour on your first morning), that includes delicious hot items in the period working kitchen, and cold items including an array of freshly baked cakes in the multiple breakfast rooms. The hotel is a bit quirky, and also really lovely. We enjoyed our stay there.
It took a while to get coffee in the morning and the guided tours can start to feel a bit of a cheesy up-sell, but we decided we didn't mind because the staff truly wants you to enjoy your stay. We enjoyed the quirkiness of it all.
A pleasant hotel with a unique atmosphere. Stuff was very helpful and friendly. Ana was great
The air in the room was a bit stifling
Staff just lovely, great welcome
Room very small and tired. Only three hangers, no drawers, and no safe box
