Pros: Excellent location !! Easy access and a really nice breakfast. Comfy bed. The extras in the room was nice touch like biscuits and sweets and a bottle of water along with tea and coffee making facilities.

Pros: The breakfast was very good, tasty and very filling which set us up for the rest of the day. The location was superb and within easy reach to all Southend's amenities and finding lifts down to the promenade was an added bonus. The discounted parking charge is excellent value and was easily set up by the guesthouse owner with no hassle.

Cons: The only downside was having the bed right next to the wall so only one side had access to a bedside table and direct access to the bathroom, without having to climb over the other person should you need to get up in the night. An additional shelf in the bathroom would be useful too. Having said that we were aware when we booked it was a small double room so for a short 2-day break this did not spoil our stay at this lovely guesthouse.

Pros: Thick bacon rashes, tasty granary bread and many other quality breakfast products all from locally sourced suppliers. Perfectly located close to the cliff railway, the beach, pier and esplanade. Parking charges only £2.50 per day with the hotels concessionary rate instead of £14.20. All the staff extremely pleasant and helpful.

Pros: When me and my friend checked in at nearly 6pm; Polly at reception was lovely, polite and sweet and so was her colleague. They were Very welcoming. Me and my friend were extremely happy with the stay and the location was perfect as we had a flight to catch from southend airport the next morning. There was no hassle and we felt extremely relaxed. Will come again in the future and also tell my friends about our stay. Thank you.

The Waverley has some really lovely rooms... but not all of them it seems, & unfortunately the room we got was a disappointing one - duvet had cigarette burn; carpet was most stained I've ever seen; room was cramped; had to stand on the bed to operate tv from the top (no remote). It's a shame as some rooms looked great, but that just makes it even more disappointing when you pay the same money for one of the poorer ones. We asked if there was another room - but they were all reserved, which shows that people in the know, do return. For a lovely stay ask for one of the more recently refurbished rooms, otherwise you might be disappointed

Green limescale on shower head, bath curtain hanger all rusty, carpet full of stains, even in the corridors, the smell of old and wet, window did not close fully as one of the handels was loose. And to top it off I found a live butterfly on the window. I did not complain as I stayed just 1 night and I'm quite convinced other rooms would be just about the same.

Pros: Stayed for one night before flying from Southend airport. Bit of a strange place, but the rooms were clean and the reception / bar staff were friendly. It suited our needs for a quick one night before an early start. Quick cab ride into Leigh-on-Sea for dinner.

Cons: Although it is not far from the airport, it is not possible to walk to the airport. I travelled on the train and had to get a taxi from the train and then in the morning back to the airport (c. £7.50 each way) . Consider this when compared to the other airport hotels. - The two big problems with the hotel were- 1. The carpet in my room was physically soaked by the door to the bathroom. I did not realise to just before I was going to sleep as I had my shoes on before. I left very early in the morning and there was nobody at reception to tell them in the morning. I had read a number of reviews saying that the place smelled like there had been a flood. It would seem to me that the issue is more fundamental, whether it's a plumbing or a ground water issue, there are some serious issues. 2. More annoying probably, the WiFi didn't work. I needed to do some work and had to tether to my phone to get any internet.

Cons: WiFi - I was allocated a room in the Anex building. Property was advertised with free WiFi but there was no internet connectivity there. Called up reception and they advised me you only get WiFi in the main building. I really needed WiFi so in the end I had to tether my phone with my laptop and use my phone data. Heating - Also the air con continuously blowed cold air when I wanted the heating on. Had to contact reception 3 times to get it sorted. Bathroom - countertop edges rotting away and was sellotaped down along the side. Towels looked really old so was not sure if they were just re-folded / washed. Overall - the room was a little out dated. Need a bit of TLC. Staff were great and excellent breakfast.

Superb location, 10 minutes walk from Westcliff Station for a 76 year old pensioner, dying to see her idol, Daniel O'Donnell's concert that night at the Cliffs Pavilion, just a stone throw from my hotel, and strolling back to the hotel, unaided, after 11am, and tucking myself into my warm bed, and sleeping like a baby, no noise, no beds singing, or cocks crow to wake me up. Priceless, 100% satisfaction that money can't buy.

Pros: The room was lovely and clean, the bed was comfortable, and the breakfast was delicious. The view from the hotel room was wonderful and it is very well located for the Cliffs Pavillion Theatre. The staff are very friendly and helpful and we would stay again and would highly recommend this hotel.

Cons: The lift Is very tiny Which meant making two trips each time because of wheelchair. Disabled access to the hotel is not the best for wheelchairs when you are managing luggage as well.

Pros: We previously stayed here 46 years ago on our wedding night so when road conditions were treacherous due to snow and we had tickets to see Katherine Ryan at the Cliffs Pavilion (which is within walking distance) we made a last minute reservation. Sadly the show was cancelled but as we had already paid for the hotel we stayed anyway. We got a free upgrade to a superior sea view room which was great. All the staff were really helpful and our evening meal and breakfast were both good. The decor however is somewhat dated and could do with some modernisation.

Cons: Unfortunately there was water on floor in the bathroom which we discovered was from a leak at the base of the sink tap. We put a towel there and that would have then been fine except the following morning when we wanted to have a bath we discovered that even though the plug had been taken out the night before the water was still in the bath!

Cons: Place was awful, the room smelt of damp, paint all flaking off the walls, cobwebs,TV aerial disconnected & had wires all hanging out. Shower room really dirty. Inside the bed had all hairs in it. Appeared to be a shared house & people arrived home from 1am drunk, using the kitchen, slamming all the doors in and out and then we proceeded to hear a woman vomiting until 5am. Possibly the worst place I have ever stayed.

Cons: Room was not clean (bed unmade and dirty towels on floor). Had to wait an hour and half for it to be cleaned.

Pros: House was clean and modern, with good beds.

Cons: The "logon" procedure was very cumbersome - when I book a hotel with booking.com I expect it to be booked. But I arrived at the hotel then had to fill out a few online forms, including photos of my ID and credit card (always sketchy) to get access to the front door and room numberpad codes. Then it took me more than 15 minutes to actually get the code - all the time waiting on the stoop of the hotel. Then, our room did not seem to have a toilet or shower, and the only "toilet" I found in the hallway was filled to the brim with cleaning materials. It turned out there was a key in our room that gave access to a separate (private) bathroom, but that was not made clear until after a chat via the website. All in all, I wasn't able to use a toilet until 45 minutes after arriving at the property. Also, it is quite a walk to the nearest bus or train stops.

Pros: It’s convenient and caters for almost everyone.

Cons: Tv didn’t work in the room and Ensuite was down the corridor through communal lounge which wasn’t outlined in advertising.

Cons: We had the king deluxe but the bed was very small for two people and very uncomfortable.

Pros: Room 2 which I booked has a bathroom situated in a hallway with a lounge separating the rooms, not in any description that I read, the allocated bathroom is numbered 2a, confusing if you hadn't been before, however the room and facilities were very good and value for money and I would return.

Cons: Was asked to give passport details , which I submitted but did not receive a code to access the room . Yet I was still charged

Pros: I was able to check in a little sooner so that I had time to get into town and the owner seemed nice. There was wifi and i got a huge room with 3 beds, a hallway and private toilet for a cheap price

Pros: The bed was excellent, had the best nights sleep in the last 2 years(maybe because my little one was so tired and slept through the night :)), our host was happy to help and tell us what's worth seeing and very close to the beach
