A city best known for its roundabouts (of all things), Milton Keynes is an underrated destination for a UK city break. You can enjoy world-class shopping, great outdoor spaces, the famous Bletchley Park and so much more in this Buckinghamshire city. With lots of university friends calling "MK" home, I’ve paid plenty of visits to the city. I’ve explored everything from the tourist hotspots to the hidden gems. If you scratch beneath the surface, there’s so much to see and do here, with a great food scene, a diverse culture and an incredible natural environment.I’ve also spent more than my fair share of nights staying in some of the best hotels in Milton Keynes. From the cheap and cheerful to the downright luxurious, I’ve learned a lot about the city from my long weekends there. Check out my recommendations for the best hotels to stay in Milton Keynes.

1.

Hotel La Tour

Address:

400 Marlborough Gate

Price:

C$ 83-C$ 873/night

Standing 14 storeys tall and boasting more than 260 bedrooms, Hotel La Tour is the pinnacle of luxury hotels in Milton Keynes. If you want to experience Hotel La Tour at its best, I recommend booking a Skyview Luxury Suite.

The hotel stands proud at one end of Centre:MK shopping mall, located in the heart of the city. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a spot of retail therapy when the weather’s bad. On brighter days, step outside and into Campbell Park, which features a range of art projects and the famous Light Pyramid.

Book dinner at Fourteen Sky Bar and Restaurant, the hotel’s in-house restaurant on the fourteenth floor. There, you can enjoy a range of premium dishes—the Burgundy braised lamb shoulder shepherd’s pie gets my vote every time. This is hands down one of the best hotels in Milton Keynes for fine dining.

2.

Moxy Milton Keynes

Address:

331 Avebury Boulevard

Price:

C$ 99-C$ 761/night

With more than 210 rooms in the heart of the city, Moxy is not only one of the largest, but also one of the top-rated hotels in Milton Keynes.

As a part of the Marriott group, you can expect all the bells and whistles the brand is known for. A boutique hotel at its heart, Moxy is one of the best hotels in Milton Keynes for an independent feel. Enjoy a free drink on arrival, the cool, comfy seating of the social spaces and a 42-inch ChromeCast TV in every room.

You’ll find a coffee shop by day, cocktail bar by night at the in-house Moxy Bar. It’s a great place for a morning flat white, to grab nibbles in the afternoon or a cocktail in the evening. If you just fancy a snack, stop at the 24/7 snack and beverage station and choose from popcorn, chips, chocolate, candy and soda.

3.

The Woburn Hotel

Address:

1 George Street

Price:

C$ 117-C$ 1,751/night

A 15-minute drive from MK’s centre, The Woburn Hotel is a charming 18th-century property. Stay in one of the 48 rooms in the main hotel or one of the seven cottages in the courtyard.

I highly recommend booking a meal in the Mediterranean-inspired open kitchen, where you can watch the skilful chefs prepare a range of delicious dishes from breakfast to dinner service. The porchetta is a personal highlight and, for each portion sold, 25p (0.44 CAD) is donated to a local charity. Make sure to save space for the bombolone—mini Italian doughnuts topped with chocolate sauce.

After dinner, stop for a drink in the Tavistock Bar. They serve a range of real ales and fine wines, alongside wonderful cocktails and premium spirits. It’s the perfect place to unwind after a long day in the city.

4.

Holiday Inn Express Milton Keynes

Address:

Tongwell Street

Price:

C$ 68-C$ 619/night

Located on the eastern banks of Willen Lake sits the Holiday Inn Express. It’s the perfect place to stay with children and dogs, if your four-legged friends fancy a mini-break too.

MK is full of great outdoor spaces and Willen Lake is one of the finest. Rent a boat for a better view of the park, visit the miniature railway or tackle the Treetop Extreme obstacle course. Walk the short route back to the hotel for a well-earned pizza at the in-house restaurant.

If you’re in the mood for something different, check out the extensive menu at the Harvester, just a 30-second walk from the hotel. The chain restaurant is great for families and caters to all palates. Enjoy steaks, rotisserie chicken, chargrilled skewers and so much more at reasonable prices.

5.

DoubleTree by Hilton Milton Keynes

Address:

Stadium Way West
