Pension Ntsunaka - Miyakojima - Building
9.2 Excellent (54 reviews)
C$ 93+
Overview Reviews
This is a relaxing accommodation run by a local big buddy.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We liked the friendly, laid-back atmosphere, the well-equipped kitchen and the pretty garden. A very pleasant place!
Cons: No complains!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Traditional Japanese rooms with the possibility to leave the door open to fall asleep to the sounds of nature. The Staff is super friendly and very helpful. Bycicle rental is for free.
Cons: Some insects around the house, so maybe not recommended for hypersensitive people.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable and kindly, like sweet home.you can cook easy here, and enjoy to meet other friends.
Cons: Can't stay more days....
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This pension is a very comfortable corner in between the sugar canes. We really enjoyed cleanliness, the spacious and beautiful garden, the common areas and the maps showing the best spots. Moreover we enjoyed the homy feeling the owner and his son give to this place and the courious company of the other guests. We had a wonderful time and we'd like to stay there again one time.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The owners are really nice and made us feel at home immediately. They can also help with information about the island, where best to go snorkeling in the current weather conditions etc (at least if you speak some Japanese). Everything is spotless clean and well-equipped. The kitchen/living room is a nice place to meet other guests, watch TV, find information about the island, ... The location is in the middle of sugar cane fields, so very quiet and perfect for relaxing - a car is recommended anyway on the island. The garden is beautiful.
Cons: There is nothing not to like. The only remark is that the futon is a bit thin if you are used to European beds - but I think if you ask, you could get an extra one.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is unique...it was so peaceful and quiet. Staff really nice and helpful. Classic japanese tatami bedroom. I just loved it. Beware...the place is isolated, either rent a car or be prepared for some serious biking, like 10 kms to the nearest best spot for snorkelling, of paved but hill road (staff provided me with a fixed gear bike, with front basket and all, so it was kinda hard on the way up). There`s a lonely beach just minutes away though. 15 mins of cycling to the nearest family mart. No other business near. At night there are not street lights and it gets daaaark (bike had a front light but it was not near enough. Be prepared, I wasn't and used my smartphone light). I covered the whole island, and I was exhausted but happy. You seldom see people on this side of the island, and an ocasional vehicle every now and then. But I put these under "likes", because that was what I was looking for. As I said, if you're not one for adventure, just rent a car. It's cheap for japanese standars. Taxi from the airport was also cheap, 1600 yens, 15 min ride. On the way back, the staff called a taxi for me. Staff speaks almost no english, but they were so nice.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: 5 Stars plus for Pension Ntsunaka! You have to stay here, if you visit Miyakojima! Completely peaceful, surrounded by sugarcanes with a magic garden, created with much compassion. The rooms and the guesthouse is maximum clean, You have all facilities you need, everything is best equipped and modern! The host is very caring neither with food advice and with whatever you need ! He is helping with all his hands! Although the rooms are not big, you have a feeling of vast space because there is a huge shared kitchen and Living room and the big garden where you can do barbecue ... we stayed there for 2 weeks and didn’t wanna leave...
Cons: Nothing!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was closer to some snorkeling beach but far away from city center. It is a new pension house and everything was really clean and tidy.
Cons: Noise and chats from guest next door could be heard easily.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very good food at the hotel!!
5.8 Okay
Cons: The hotel is trying to charge me extra fees three weeks after checking out and paying in full. The beach was off limits after 6pm and beach access limited at all times. This information is written in their Japanese site but not on the English version. No explanation was given at the hotel verbally or in writing. In addition, at check in, the clerk promised to contact me later about the breakfast tickets. There was no contact from staff at all. I stayed at this hotel two years before with my Japanese wife and had an excellent experience. This time, with my kids but without my wife, the experience couldn't have been more different.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location on Maehama, which is the most beautiful beach of miyakojima; very good service provided by a friendly and helpful staff; very good infrastructure; wide array of restaurants; laundry and driers available in the property. 10/15 min from the airport.
Cons: I have nothing to complain about; however even if the quality of the food is very good and the service high, I consider that the restaurants are extraordinarily expensive
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Property located in an excellent beach, staff are friendly and bilingual
Cons: Mm perhaps the price, but considering the location of the resort, is not too bad ...

5.4 Okay
Pros: Nice staff. They try to help you where they can.
Cons: It is very pricey. First we got into our Suite and our private pool was not heated. it was very Cold. impossible to get in there. they told us, if we wanted, a heated pool, we Need to upgrade to the royal Suite. We did that. So i Paid more than 900 a night for the royal Suite, but i did not feel like a royal. For this Money, you can get a lot better Resorts worldwide.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Genuine friendliness of all the staff, amazing rooms (we stayed at the pool villas), beautiful and relaxing atmosphere at both the hotels swimming pools..The teppaniaky restaurant was absolutely wonderful (we suggest the menu with both lobster and steak) The service at the restaurant was impeccable. We loved the island in general and we thought the food was really amazing in every restaurant we went to (Ryukiu BBQ, Saikai,Kaizuken sushi - they even made something only for me as O am pregnant and cannot eat raw fish ;)).The shuttle bus takes you everywhere within minutes and at the beach we had a wonderful lunch and snorkeling experience. There is nothing I would change about our stay if not make it slightly longer. Also the pastries at the breakfast buffet were so yummy
Cons: I loved everything!Only thing I would say is that I have ordered once a lobster burger at the Mayol lounge and it wasn't nice as lobster was old and chewy but apart from that all was super perfect!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: service from the staffs is 10/10, and the royal suite we stayed is really big for Japanese standard
Cons: items for bathing can be better, modern, stylish and breakfast for western style can be improved

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very calm. Good beds and bathroom. Location, near airport. Strip mall just across the street, with restaurants and supermarket. Breakfast buffet. Mostly Japanese, but Western sélections too.
Cons: No closet, drawers or shelves, so can't unpack. Difficulty communicating with desk staff, very nice but speaking almost no English. Local area info in Japanese only.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything is so clean, breakfast is great and location is just perfect
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: location is perfect, hotel is quite new
Cons: no electric bike rental
7.9 Good
Pros: Room is a bit wider than standard japanese hotels. Perfectly clean. Coin laundry, microwave and vending machines available. Location was ideal because you can reach any spot in miyakojima within 25min by car. Right in front of the hotel there's a mall and some restaurants.
Cons: Parking was 500¥ per day. I understand they make good money out of it but other hotels give you parking for free. Staff told me there was no free parking around the structure but I found plenty of parking spots where to leave the car even overnight. Room has balcony but I'd rather have a slight bigger room without balcony other than a balcony that i can't use not even to dry the beach towel as birds poop on it. Plus i saw some spider webs so I'd never open that window. Staff or cleaner tried to enter in my room (when the room has been already cleaned) but has i placed the lock they couldn't get it. So they left without saying anything or apologize. I'm sure it was just a mistake but it's never a nice thing.

Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. A roundtrip airport shuttle is complimentary (available on request).
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Room was spacious and comfortable for a family of four. Staff very friendly. Convenient shuttle between the various hotels of the resort group.
Cons: The building was dated; it was functional but not pretty. When the other hotels of the group have a garden of tropical flowers and an outdoor area with a swimming pool, Brisa has nothing of the sort. Finally, Brisa is so closed to a cute beach but they haven’t cleared out a way to access it. So there is actually no way to reach it from the hotel ground.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Not much unfortunately. We were lucky to be at the top floor so the view was really nice.
Cons: It is a very old building, not well maintained and very dirty. The elevators were disgusting. The blue floor carpet was now black. On three sides of the lift wall there was a badly cut and badly glued grey carpet. The smell was also quite bad. All the outdoor common parts of the building where old and dirty. The walls, the floors and the stairs all dirty. The room cleaning service was extremely bad too. Furthermore, walls had black marks, sofas had food residues in between the sitting part and the back support. The bathroom was clean but old. The air conditioning was noisy. Bad smell was coming in from the kitchen sink. But the cherry on the cake was the price. Compared to what was offered it was simply ridiculous. Avoid at all cost.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: View from room
Cons: Futon sheets has stain Facility asked to do clean the room and do dishes
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Loved this calm relaxing place.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Spacious rooms with the amenities of an apartment. Fabulous snorkeling and kayaking very nearby. Pools on site are a huge plus for families.
Cons: It’s time for new furniture/wallpaper/paint. Did not feel dirty, just dull and it’s time to brighten up the decor. Indoor pool closes too early. A nice swim between dinner and fireworks or bedtime would be awesome.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We occupied 3 x rooms at the Wellness Villa Brisa, with this being our second visit to this hotel and we love it. The hotel was able to locate our group on the same floor which helped us greatly. Rooms and facilities are excellent, with a washing machine, microwave and hob available in the kitchen area of our rooms. The staff as in our previous visit were very friendly and always helpful. We had the benefit of a hire car, which you will need for touring the Island and getting to the excellent supermarkets - about 10-15 minutes away. We also used the hotel courtesy bus for local trips which were very comfortable and ran frequently. We also used this for transporting our suitcases to and from the airport. Another excellent holiday - thank you.
Cons: Nothing really comes to mind as our holiday was excellent.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great view
7.1 Good
Pros: A good, basic pad for a few days to explore the island. Mini kitchenette in the flat. Nice balcony with sea view. Washing machine in flat.
Cons: There are no facilities in the building such as cafe, shop, dining. You have to walk or drive or catch bus to all the dining and none of it was very good. All the same resort cooking. A hire car was essential to see rest of island, good beaches etc.
7.9 Good
Pros: Spacious room with nice ocean view Room is well equipped Free shuttle to other resort facilities
Cons: No facilities or restaurants nearby. Better for self driver tourists otherwise need rely on shuttle Staff are helpful and can speak English but staff is not sufficient and we have to call staff at night requesting them to make bed (futon) for us. No meal option in hotel need take shuttle bus to breeze bay for breakfast or swimming pool
7.5 Good
Pros: Spacious clean room with comfortable tatami
Cons: Staffs can't speak English, information book in room is only in Japanese

7.1 Good
Pros: Great value, friendly owners, cheap rental scooters.
Cons: Could be a lot cleaner especially communal areas.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The Hostel owner was very helpful. He helped us rent a car. Also would recommend asking for a pick up from the airport.
7.1 Good
Pros: Friendly staff and most people staying. Very good level of English spoken. Great location for beach. Quiet at night.
Cons: 1 toilet and 1 shower room for whole building. Shame to pay for bike hire but understand. Airplanes fly directly overhead so noisy during day.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: You can learn kite-surfing here.
Cons: Location
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Meg and Shu San were very friendly and helpful. Meg was able to offer lots of recommendations in the local area to explore - restaurants, cafes and activities. Would recommend to English speaking international travelers as some places on the island have limited English but Meg communicates well :)
Cons: Nothing we didn’t like :)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All hostels should be like this. A perfect countryside house with everything you need to explore the island: a big kitchen, a living room, a nice dorm bed with a fridge, rental bikes and diving/snorkeling equipment, and who could forget the nice doggy? You can real feel a communal spirit here, both between the travellers and the amazing staff. Props to Meg and her husband for this outstanding lodge. If I return to Miyako one day, I know where I'll be staying!!
Cons: I couldn't stay longer :(
7.9 Good
Pros: Good location next to Maheama beach and not far from Shigira Beach. Meg is really nice and helpful. The place is a good value for money.
Cons: It is a little far from the town so renting a car seems mandatory. The walls are thin so it can be noisy sometimes.
7.5 Good
Pros: The overall atmosphere was chill. Like a homey surf house. We enjoyed the close proximity to Maehama beach!! BEER ON TAP inside the kitchen for 300 yen a glass. The mugs are frosty! Rental amenities are plenty. Bike cruiser cost 300 yen per 24hrs.
Cons: Bedding quality could have been better. Bed springs could be felt. My parter used her sleeping bag as extra mattress padding.

Pros: Please be prepared that translators are not easily available for English. I understand totally I'm in their country, however, it would help to have someone to talk to about certain requests that were totally lost in translation.
Cons: The food offered in the hotel was not worth the exorbitant price. Eat elsewhere.
7.9 Good
Pros: Good location pleasant stay and staff. A good resort to spend s few days
Cons: Unfortunately there is construction work hiu gnon by the pool do for 1 day or was very noisy
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: The BBQ restaurant across the street from hotel was the best part of our trip. We were turned away 2 times for reasons unknown to us but on our last night there they finally agreed to serve us. Excellent meal!
Cons: the beds were very firm and the noise from rooms next door could be easily heard.

Cons: Stayed in the Annex building. Rooms need to be updated and the bathroom had a bad smell (of urine). Terrible brown couch inside room with stains on it.
6.3 Good
Pros: Enjoyed the live music show
Cons: This hotel was very expensive but is very tired and daggy.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff was excellent and very attentive and super polite. The beach was located within a 1 minute walk of the hotel and you could use all of the other Shigira hotels and their amenities even if you were not staying at that the other property. Multiple beaches within a 10 minute walk of the hotel. Get a rental car so you can explore the other islands and visit some of the other beautiful beaches.
Cons: Some of the facilities were not open during our stay. The outside pool bar and the inside bar was not open for service during any part of our stay. Not that we minded, but it would have been nice to have a open bar within the hotel. There was a place to get drinks right across the street though.

Cons: Anything
9.6 Excellent
Pros: First: I love quiet places for recreation and in this catagory one cannot choose a better place on this island! Just a few planes approaching the airport fly over this hotel (one about every 45 minutes), but just during daytime at night (6pm-8am) it is absolutely quiet. And here the planes are still so high in the air that they do not really disturb. The room is less than 13 sqm in size, but the space us excellently used: although there is a wardrobe closet, a safety locker, a Japanese set bathroom, a queen sized bed, a small fridge, a desk with 4 drawers with a comfortable chair there still is enough space so one does not become claustrophobic. And there is a spacy balcony (about 3.4m x 1.5m. At the Japanese public bath there are coin washing mashines and dryers, which is very convenient if one is travelling for a long time (me: 25 days). Washing powder can be bought at the small store at the reception and I was given a rope with clips to dry my clothes on the balcony. At the small store one can also buy cup noodles, crackers, sweets and t-shirts. Breakfast is excellent, if one can eat a Japanese breakfast: delicious, rice with many different toppings, filling for a whole day at the beach or bike riding or whatever one does here. Very good coffee with fresh milk, different kinds of tea and about 8 different types of fruit juices are available. The western style breakfast is a bit poor, but who wants to have a western style beakfast if Japanese is so good? Dinner food selection isn't very wide, just about 7 different choices and no western food, but just as delicious as breakfast!
Cons: The restaurant was closed for lunch because of low season. There is nothing around the hotel within walking distance: no shops, no restaurants, no entertainment. If one needs that (I don't) then one needs a vehicle. I had a rented bicycle with which I explored the island.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice hotel, very friendly staff, location is superb. In the hotel they have a big swimming pool that is just for divers, so you cannot swim there, but the beach is just in a 3 minute walk. Next to Marea there is a 5-star hotel that has several restaurants and a shop if need something. You can rent a bike at this hotel for around 10$ a day, but be aware of sun - it burns skin quite easy. Dozens of tropical butterflies are flying around near flowers.
Cons: Don't walk in forest after sunset if you're not prepared to meet frogs, spiders and snakes.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Spotlessly clean. Helpful staff. Mahatma Beach out back behind the windbreak. Note that pool is for diving only. Thank you for your amazing hospitality!

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Every staffs were kind and polite.
Cons: Breakfast wasn’t over expected. Actually lower.
7.5 Good
Pros: Great locations, there are a lots of restaurants just down the street, sad thing is that they usually open at 5pm / 6pm, better also book for the breakfast as the convenience store nearby are always out of food, and restaurants that serve breakfast lunches are 10 - 15 mins away from the hotel.
Cons: This is a remote island, there's not much to offer by the hotels there, not many facilities / entertainment within the hotel meaning you'll have nothing to do especially this is place that always has storms hitting these islands.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Centrally located , pleasant staff on front desk and in cafe. They take pride in their work and will help you as best they can.
Cons: Hotel a bit dated and limited English spoken by staff. Was given breakfast voucher but not explained it’s optional and would be added to bill. Room was clean and compact and had everything you would need for an overnight stay.
7.9 Good
Pros: Location is excellent if you're wanting to explore Miyako and enjoy local restaurants
