9.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent restaurant. Great quality food, great service. The room was very comfortable. The staff and team are really friendly and approachable. I would definitely stay there again.
Cons: Be aware that because it is an old building there aren't many power sockets in the bedroom.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was in a beautiful location on the edge of a loch so the views from our room were lovely. We were lucky enough to have a beautiful sunny afternoon so we enjoyed pre dinner drinks sitting outside on the loch’s edge watching the sunset. We had one of the best meals in five weeks of travelling in Scotland...their hand dived scallops were truly delicious! Not the flashiest of hotels we stayed in, but it had a lot of charm with happy, friendly staff, great food...all made for a memorable stay.
Cons: Rooms and bathrooms aren’t the most modern, but didn’t detract from our stay.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, friendly helpful staff, Evening meal was very good. Would stay certainly again.
Cons: Only small niggle was that breakfast was ok, but considering you had to pre order and the high standard of other meals it was a little underwhelming. Maybe being rather to critical.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Welcoming at midnight as I’d just got off the ferry and service bus stopped right outside. Simple, relaxing bedroom with comprehensive hospitality tray. Excellent choice at breakfast, looked after my luggage while I had a day exploring, before moving on.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was low-season, so nice and quiet. I was upgraded on arrival, very nice. I enjoyed the full breakfast option. A good place to stay, on the water and a 1 minute walk to the High Street. Kirkwall is easy to navigate on foot and by car. Close to so many historic and other places of interest (such as distilleries). On my last day at the hotel I had to depart before breakfast service, so the hotel fixed me a little take-away bag and dropped it off at my door, nice touch.

Pros: The location for this hotel is excellent and the rooms comfortable and clean. Breakfast and dinner are good for a work trip and most other guests (in January) appeared to be on business.
Cons: Unfortunately the hotel lacks a comfortable bar or lounge area for sitting alone quietly in the evening, the hotel bar is a local pub and relatively lively, it would be ideal for groups.

Pros: Bed was comfortable. Staff were excellent and went way above what I was expecting. Had to leave early for the ferry but hotel kindly supplied me with a packed lunch. Night porter is a credit to this hotel.

6.7 Good
Pros: Staff were welcoming and helpful. Hotel is handily located in the centre of Kirkwall. Wonderful selection of whiskies in the bar with a knowledgeable barman. Kirkwall itself is a total joy.
Cons: Room had a rather quirky layout and felt like a corridor that had been turned into a room. Breakfasts were ok if a little greasy. Hotel feels a bit tired and in need of some cosmetic upgrading in the public areas.
7.5 Good
Pros: The staff were great - welcoming, helpful and friendly - I thought they were great. I only had breakfast, but it was lovely - the scrambled eggs were heavenly!
Cons: The hotel itself is a bit tired ... the room was okay but hadn’t been decorated or refurbished in years. But it was clean and warm. Given how busy this hotel is, it’s time the owners invested in an upgrade. Could take a lesson from The Ayre Hotel in Kirkwall - an old, traditional hotel with beautiful rooms.
7.0 Good
Pros: room OK, location good
Cons: breakfast one day very slow but food OK, evening meal not good didn't eat there again.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Good central location, food in restaurant very good. Nice large room. Lovely atmosphere.
Cons: Only stairs to room no lifts and car park initially difficult to find. Also narrow lane and stairs from car park to hotel. Shower pressure low.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We LOVED our stay at the Aviedale! Perfect for solo travellers or couples. It is so cosy and surrounded by beautiful landscape. The place is spotless and has everything you need from extra towels and kitchenware. The bed is super comfortable too. It was very easy to get to using the coordinates that were provided- thank you! Super hosts! We look forward to returning.
7.9 Good
Pros: Extras inside, like washer and dryer
Cons: Needed a comfortable chair or two
4.0 Okay
Pros: The breakfast was a complete fiction. The guest guide listed a wide range of breakfast food provided and included in the cost but NONE was provided. Only 2 coffee capsules on arrival.A bottle of red wine and additional coffee capsules were provided on 2nd day. We had to buy loo rolls as only one provided. Only 2 sheets of kitchen roll and no tea towels provided. No bin liners until 2nd day. Radiators controlled in adjacent property never came on so were cold and could only dry wet clothing using tumble dryer. Electric fan heater said to be in wardrobe not provided. Heating in kitchen using bizarre heated mirror...impossible to control and pretty useless even when on. Fridge so tiny that could hardly store anything and totally unsuitable for self-catering. Cooking facilities inappropriate for self-catering...only one hob portable induction hob. WC seat wouldn't stay up. Shower drain partially blocked so flooded when used
Cons: This is a fairly remote location which is good in some respects but makes it imperative that the unit is properly equipped for self-catering. This unit was manifestly not. Its a longish drive to the nearest supermarket in Kirkwall and so one wants to stock up but the fridge is so minuscule that it is impossible to store perishable items other than in tiny quantities. Cooking facilities are poor...a one place induction hob and a manky microwave which we didn't like to use.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean and comfy, nice touches (maps and leaflets, bathroom products, tea bags etc) really comfy bed, AMAZING view and garden. Super easy check in and out too.
Cons: Everything was lovely although couldn't for the life of me get the coffee to work.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We had a great time at the Aviedale Suite. It was exactly what we were expecting but more comfortable. All the facilities worked well and we were able to be completely self-sustainable. In the morning the views over the bay were lovely and it was a fairly short drive to all the locations we wanted to go to during our stay in Orkney.
Cons: Overall we had a great time although if we didn't have the car it would have been very difficult to stay here as there are no shops or restaurants nearby. If I was to nitpick, we brought some coffee to make in the morning but there as only a capsule machine, however about 8 capsules were provided at the start and this did us for the first few days.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean, very comfortable bedroom.
Cons: A small welcome pack( e.g.milk ) would have been good as there were no shops close by.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
6.7 Good
Pros: Nice quiet location
Cons: Hot water controlled from main cottage - not good when they turn it off. Under the bed is not very clean. Could do with a dustpan and brush for spillages

Cons: Rooms are a bit small for two people and no bath

Pros: Such a lovely hotel, but it was the staff that made it! So helpful, polite, friendly, gladly helped us with any queries, and absolutely delicious food, yummy breakfast, they even made me a delicious vegan packed lunch for me as I was leaving early in the morning. Would definitely recommend and visit again!
Cons: There wasn't anything I'd improve. Everything was great!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really lovely staff. Cosy (as in warm) bedroom. Building had lots of character and breakfast was lovely.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Character property convenient for the town with private parking
5.0 Okay
Pros: Room was clean & tidy and the staff were friendly
Cons: My room was above the bar and there were loud voices & slamming doors every few minutes until 9pm, complete misery! Why they would put someone in that room on a Friday night when the hotel was not busy (3 rooms occupied) is unacceptable.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: The lass that served breakfast was very nice
Cons: Arrived a little after 11pm could not get a drink at bar although being a resident. Was told till had been done but cost could have been added to my account for payment before leaving. Shower fan sounded for at least 10 mins after switching off toilet light and sounded like pneumatic drill.
