Hotel Resort Mulino a Vento - Uggiano la Chiesa - Building

9.2 Excellent (483 reviews)
C$ 109+
Overview Reviews
Immersed in the peaceful Salento countryside, among olive trees and Mediterranean vegetation, the Hotel Resort Mulino a Vento is a relaxing and restoring oasis for guest longing for a friendly welcoming and a deserved break in an uncontaminated territory. Situated only a few kilometers from Otranto and Porto Badisco, Enea’s landing place in Italy, the Resort is also a perfect starting point to discover the coastal and internal beauties of Salento area. The hypogeum oil mill, dating back to the XVI century, completely refurbished, is available for guests guided tours. Rare witness of a flourishing rural tradition that used the animal power ( mule or donkey) and the wind-force from which the name “Mulino a Vento” the mill calls to mind ancient flavors entirely enhanced in the meals offered at the Hotel restaurant where local aroma and colors melt in a perfect bond of tradition and innovation.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Swimming pool
Cons: Smell from surrounding fields, tacky rooms, depressing vibes, not suitable for young couples
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent staff and facilities; a very relaxing resort. Would definitely come back
Cons: Drinks at the bar could be a tiny bit less pricey
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A peaceful location and wonderful staff. The owner and the local tourism specialist were great at ensuring you were well formed about the area, the local produce and answered any questions about places to visit or where to eat. The hotel had well planned events every evening from local wine tasting to folklore dancing. The property is well spaced out with lots of greenery, trees and shrubs and is well maintained. The restaurant was lovely and the quality of food was very good, so were the wines. From the Reception ladies to the bar staff to the restaurant waiters and the gardener, everyone was happy, friendly and made our stay a pleasant one. Would definitely recommend and return.
Cons: Shower a bit dated and small for the size of our huge bathroom.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent well run resort with incredibly helpful and friendly staff. They also have a very good restaurant with a decent selections of wines. The resort also did their best to entertain, with usually some kind of event going on. I really liked the traditional folk music. The swimming pool and quality of beds were some of the best I've seen. Breakfast was fantastic!! For anyone considering a trip to Salento, then his resort need to be on your top 3.
Cons: Noisy fridge and the shower cabin was a little small. We turned the fridge off at night to solve he fridge problem :)
5.8 Okay
Pros: Swimming pool and breakfast
Cons: Industrial like resort. No personal touch nor flavor. Bit noisy rooms. Very standardized with Manu rules.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff are absolutely incredible, so helpful and friendly. The resort is lovely. The rooms are slightly outdated but still clean and comfortable and attractive. The swimming pool is fantastic and the staff also offer certain events on the different days you are staying there. The breakfast is amazing. Really great stay. Would highly recommend!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Rich breakfast, in the form of a buffet, in the European, not Italian way, certainly everyone will choose. High-level restaurant and bar services, pleasant evening events to diversify the program (eg demonstrations of local cuisine with tasting, etc.)

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The wonderful family owners (so helpful with local information and caring) excellent food and clean, comfortable room.
Cons: Nothing to dislike. We stayed for a week less than originally planned but this was due to family circumstances that arose that were totally unconnected with this excellent Masseria which we would heartily recommend and be glad to stay in again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property is just outside of Otranto with easy access to the entire area. The hosts are amazing and the rooms comfortable and spacious. There is a pool and gardens to relax and soak in some sun. The restaurant is one of the best we experienced in all of Puglia. We stayed 4 nights and I was a little sad leaving, it was definitely a highlight to our trip to Puglia.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Ambiance, spectacular dining room
Cons: Breakfast sparse and cold. No eggs or cereal
2.9 Mediocre
Pros: Bed was like sleeping on springs
Cons: The bathroom was disgusting toiletries consisted of one piece of soap and a bath cap shower door was broken. Shower curtain full of mould. Swimming pool area two sun umbrellas one broken dirty white plastic sun beds with co covers not a bad swimming poo. Other people’s photos can be very deceiving
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was tasty and the staff were super friendly and helpful. It was a beautiful property and in a great location not far from Otranto. Really nice pool and we had a good sized room.
Cons: The WIFI really didn't work and our shower was small with not great water flow.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and the staff is very nice and helpful. It’s an old building update to the current standards. The pool is lovely.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great stay at Masseria Gattamora !! Great warm welcome from Patrizia until the early mirning of our leaving! The restaurant is very good, the swimming pool very pleasant, the garden is big and calm, the rooms and tve inside has got only a few rooms and the service is great, the architecture is very well preserved and beautiful. Thks Patrizia we hope to come back and see you again in your little paradise ! Alix Emmanuel & Esteban
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The property itself is beautiful and well maintained... lovely gardens. Pool was very refreshing. Dinner in the courtyard was relaxing and magical. Food was outstanding... Our host was gracious and accommodating.
Cons: The little details showed the property age: Bed was very uncomfortable. The shower curtain should have been replaced; towels not as plush as other properties we stayed in.
6.3 Good
Pros: The accommodation itself (the building) is just beautiful. It’s an Old farm made into a ‘homestay’ with a beautiful garden and swimming pool. The food in the restaurant was good. Great location to dine.
Cons: The room was very outdated and basic. The show was horrible with only a curtain to protect the rest of the little bathroom of being flooded. It’s good for one night but i find the prices way to much for such a basic and Old bathroom with rust on every surface. For that price we expected more... so eitherlower the price of the room we had or fix some things to make it more comfortable. On the last part the matras was a true horrorstory for our backs. Never had this level of backpain from a bed before. I don’t wanna know how Old that thing was. On first look the room looks cosy and it really could be, once it’s fixed.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Our room was bright, spacious and very clean with a modern bathroom. It also contained a kitchen with a fridge and freezer. People were very friendly and shared helpful tips how to explore the area. The typical Italian breakfast was very tasty and one day even included a cake buffet from a local backery. Subterranean parking was great and ensured that the temperature in our car stayed cool despite the hight summer temperatures. We‘ll come back happily, if we are in the area.
Cons: Terrace was quite dusty and has probably not bern part of the daily cleaning.
4.6 Okay
Pros: big windows
Cons: the price of booking is different from the one you have to pay you should pay for the swimming pool for the all period, you can't take several days. breakfast always the same. managers do not speak english, italian only. dj tried to steel my baby's ball saying that it is his ball )))
6.7 Good
Pros: The comfy beds and the pool
Cons: Lack of kettle and mirrors in suite Not enough towels Breakfast lacking in diversity
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: The actual location is good to be able to travel around the area, but I could NEVER recommend staying here.
Cons: Basically everything, this place is just really bad. The building we stayed in had some dodgy repairs that were ineffective. This resulted in water leaks onto the tiled floor that our son slipped on, but thankfully didn't injure himself. The buffet breakfast service was an unmitigated disaster every day we went. The staff were lackadaisical, the replenishing of hot food a joke, and no set tables for any newcomers. Surely it's embarrassing if people have to ask to have a table set after circling the restaurant, but that's the norm. Hot food like eggs and bacon only take 5-10 minutes to cook, so why would you have to wait over 20 minutes for either? The irony is that a manager oversees this in person, yet still misses obvious cues, but this is due to him sitting with other guests and talking. There is also a lack of information at booking. This became apparent when we checked in. To use the pools costs EUR7 per person per day. We asked if this included towel hire and were told yes. On the first day we went to use the pools (one afternoon after thunderstorms in the morning yet still 30+deg and 3 hours later), it was closed. The annoying aspect of this was we were at reception just before this, yet no sign was present, plus we told them we were going for a swim, yet nothing was said. So after a long walk in the sun, we returned to reception for a please explain. We got a sorry, but when we asked for a refund for that day, we were told that the resort rules are no refunds. We asked to speak with the manager, but surprisingly he wasn't at work for the next two days. We went elsewhere that day, and when we returned, we were told they tried to contact us to say the pools were now open, but we didn't answer. When questioned, they only rang the room, despite having our mobile numbers. When we did use the pools, we were told we would have to pay EUR5 per person for towel hire.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very spacy rooms, Elena from the reception very available and kind to help.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The location was good and it is a good size for a family.
Cons: It was not much clean, kitchen was not fully equipped and pictures show swimming pool and fitness as would be part of the facilities. However, it is not and should pat extra which for me it is bot fair. Moreover, none of the equipments in the club were working (only 3 and out of order).
6.3 Good
Pros: Beautifull spacious room
Cons: Beware you have to pay extra for the use of the pool!!! This is not mentioned in the initial price but when you receive the final details from the hotel it’s put on the bill. The costs are €7, per person per day!!!!
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: Worst vacation hotel stay in our life!!!We booked 2 sea view rooms, when we checked in we were given one room facing the parking and the other room facing the construction. We asked them to change our rooms, they promised to do so the next day and they didn’t. The air conditioner was not working the whole our stay. We complained several times but nothing was done, they gave us portable air conditioner, but we had 2 bedrooms and we were given only one, plus one part should be always outside in order for it to work, so during the night the door was open... so we ended up being bitten by mosquitoes. They are using some toxic cleaning solutions on which I had severe allergy and we asked not to use them in our room, they promised but again nothing was done. The icing on a cake was besides us paying resort fees the hotel charged us for towel rentals.
7.5 Good
Pros: I like the room, the location and also the staff
Cons: The Restaurant and Breakfast

5.0 Okay
Cons: room was completly without decor. have been in hospital rooms that are more appealing. location is not in town.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff on reception were very helpful and efficient. Room was comfortable and clean with everything we needed (though a kettle in the room would have been nice). Breakfast was excellent - hot options as well as a big range of fruits and very nice pastries. Otranto is a beautiful place, our favourite of the 5 places we stayed on our tour round Puglia. Lovely pedestrian sea front with a great choice of bars and restaurants, superb cathedral and castle. Oh, and some stunning beaches as well.
Cons: Maybe a bit dated in style but we liked it.

Pros: Location excellent...literally stone's throw from old town and sea...breakfast very good... staff very friendly...very good value for money

5.0 Okay
Pros: nothing
Cons: this resort is the worst I have stayed. The installation is very old fashion, not well maintained. the bedroom is pretty small, no window..there is only a small patio that lights the room. Decorarions is also terrible. I felt I was locked under claustrophobic mood. additonally there is continuous and annoying music that plays all day in the swimming pool.At night thre is music as well..I felt I was at the disco. there is no empathy for people who wants really rest. The music only stops at 1 am. the restaurant is big the food is average however you feel you are in a fish market due to noise. I really don't recommend it at all. it is not a resort it is a nightmare. tks
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was great and the resort was decent. Even though the beach was small we had space to lay in the sun and explore a bit. Shuttle services and the front desk staff were great!
Cons: The food was quite average and the exercise facility was not open at convenient times. We visited close to the off season period which may have impacted both of these issues. Next time we will stay in town.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing and unique! Really great resort.
7.9 Good
Pros: Staff
Cons: Camere
5.4 Okay
Pros: The food was ok. The receptionists were nice and helpful, even though their English wasn't the best.
Cons: Small bedroom, and a narrow bathroom. The wifi which we could access only in the public areas was terrible and inside of the bedroom our 4G didn't work which is not their fault, but it is not so useful for someone who is traveling. The entertainment shows at night were in Italian and not enjoyable. No gluten-free options in the breakfast.
6.7 Good
Pros: Nice Resort at a Great Location. Good Food at the Buffet. Great Swimming Pool.
Cons: Very old and small rooms. Clean but very old. Tiny Bathroom. Beach Towels at extra price. Beach Umbrella's at extra price. Good location at the small beach at extra price. Only Wifi in central area, No Wifi in room and poor roaming coverage (due to location) make staying connected hard.
7.5 Good
Pros: The entire staff was friendly and outgoing. They made us feel welcome and made connections with us throughout our stay. The location on the bay was beautiful.
Cons: The music and DJ at the bar was very loud so that it could be heard at the beach and pool. This was not very relaxing for us. There is a smaller lagoon further away that is quiet, but was far from amenities. All questions, towel rentals, excursion reservations, etc are to be made at the InfoShop. However, the shop was closed from 12:00-16:00 every day. The buffet food was average. This is a great resort if you are looking for a party atmosphere. We were expecting a quiet resort atmosphere.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff friendly, amazing breakfast, best location, loved the hot tub.
Cons: Internet poor and two beds combined rather than a queen or king
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel's in a lovely building, next to the cathedral, the rooms are elegant and spacious, there's a decent view from the rooftop terrace and the reception staff are exceptionally helpful. We liked the hotel, and Otranto, so much that we returned later in the week for a second night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff went out of their way to be helpful with advice on places of interest to visit as well as suggesting beautiful beaches which we would never have found by ourselves. The breakfasts were delicious, with lots of variety and home made cakes which empowered mouth watering. We had an evening meal at the hotel and it was simply delicious. I would highly recommend this hotel. It will not disappoint. Thank you. Maureen
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location right in the centre of town. Staff were very helpful and spoke good English.
Cons: An independent restaurant, not in any way associated with the hotel, said that it had the reputation for being the best in Otranto. That said, it did not live up to the 5 stars on the entrance plaque, more like three stars in the UK. Not wishing to be churlish, or over critical: The bedroom was tired and did not live up to the standard of the public areas. Wi-fi was appalling. When will hotels realise that this is as important as hot running water? Whilst the breakfast had the full range of variety, the overall impression is that it had been produced to a price and not a standard. There is no excuse for serving the poorest quality orange juice in a country that produces so many oranges! A word on Otranto generally: this small town has long ago surrendered to mass tourism but the Cathedral is spectacular.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: great location, next to the beautiful cathedral, right in the heart of the old center!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location great. The rooms very clean. Staff very helpful and friendly

7.1 Good
Pros: It was ok for a night. Check in was smooth, room was simple style as was bathroom. The front door was the only means to get some light in the room without having lights on. I would have preferred to control air on myself but it was set by reception. I couldn’t alter it as much as I’d like so the room was incredibly hot. Breakfast as good and staff were pleasant. Small supermarket just across the street. I would stop again if I was in the area.
Cons: Aircon not very efficient and set by reception
7.9 Good
Pros: Close to AirPort. Very friendly staff. Transfer to airport.
Cons: Location

Pros: Great location......very close to old city
Cons: Not a hotel .....just a bed & breakfast

Cons: Claustrophic rooms
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully restored heritage building. Staff very helpful
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Lovely staff were helpful polite and welcoming and the breakfast was very good with varied choice. Short walk from the centre so well located.
Cons: The room was very modern I was expecting a traditional place, there was a nice sitting area outside but the view was awful.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: I liked the quiet hotel, no traffic noise or guest noise. The rooms were comfortable and spacious. Parking was available in the underground car park. It was easy to walk into town for dinner so the car could be left in the car park.
Cons: Nothing, no complaints. It was a bit tricky to find initially but then Otranto is an old city with narrow streets & some restricted access areas.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was lovely. Good facilities and the roof top terrace was a very nice place, to relax with a nice cold drink.
Cons: Like most places in Italy the breakfast isn’t alway plenty full. But it was one of the better ones we came across during our puglia road trip.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good value comfortable and quiet hotel with good facilities.
Cons: Located a bit away from the promenade.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Nice small hotel, we enjoyed our one night stay
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Relais Valle dell'Idro & Terraces was a chic, modern hotel with very aesthetic amenities. Great views from the terraces, close proximity to the city and very helpful and friendly staff.
Cons: We thought it was very odd that you had to book and pay for the use of the jacuzzi. It's the first time I've come across a hotel where such facilities were not included. Also, there was nothing informing us of this so a bit awkward when we took another couple's slot. At the breakfast, the eggs and tomatoes seemed to run out quick and were not replenished... making it tricky for a low-carber that can't survive on pastries.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was standard Italian hotel breakfast - ham, cheese, pastries etc. This hotel also provided a tomato salsa/bruchetta mix with scrambled eggs which was good and gave a healthier alternative.
Cons: The only criticism I have - which is not really anything to do with the hotel - was the parking was a little ad hoc (although the hotel staff gave us very good advice on this) and there were not many places near the hotel to get water/drinks.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Lovely comfortable hotel with helpful staff within walking distance of old town.
Cons: Some building work in the surrounding area, which will hopefully be finished soon.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were amazing! The rooms are beautiful and the hotel has beautiful amenities. The roof terrace, the dining room, the spa. Cute Italian breakfast put on downstairs everyday for you. Great experience we would love to come back! Thank you!
Cons: There was building works across the street and as we were a bit jet lagged it was annoying. Not the staff or hotels fault. It started at 7am and went for hours.
6.7 Good
Pros: The staff was super efficient and fun to deal with. The rooms are ok; bathroom and shower could be larger. Front desk clerks are very friendly.
Cons: The bar is not serious. You need a real bar room and bar tender. Breakfast was average, could be improved.
6.3 Good
Pros: The breakfast was quite good and replenished regularly. Staff were very helpful
Cons: Standard room was a quite small.

Pros: Green Paradise is a lovely relaxing resort. The staff are exceptional and will do all they can for you. The location is approx 2000 metres from Otranto centre and the main road is quite dangerous to walk on. There is a bus service 3 mins walk down the road and costs 1.5 Euros in to town or the local taxis are 10 Euros. We would certainly return to this resort and town.

7.9 Good
Pros: Location ,breakfast, staff and Seaview were excellent.
Cons: Sadly the weather was very hot.The air cooler was situated below the window behind 2 curtains there for it was impossible to get cool air. When we opened the window the music noise was very loud especially from a crepe maker stall opposite us.This lasted into the early hours of the morning.

Pros: Great location, clean rooms, very friendly staff!
3.8 Mediocre
Cons: It is a big mystery why this hotel has 4 stars. Everything was bad and outdated. The bathroom was a disaster unless you like to sit on a toilet with no leg space or to shower in a tiny cabin. WiFi did not work most of the time. Breakfast was in the burning sun. Parking lot is hidden and difficult to find without information .

Cons: Bed was uncomfortable, the bathroom was very small (especially the shower), toilet didn’t work properly, breakfast was the same every day
