Located in Bad Berneck im Fichtelgebirge, Gasthof & Hotel Schwarzes Roß is within a 15-minute drive of Bischofsgrüner Forst and Bischofsgruen Church. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Fantastic stay starting with the most friendly welcome we've ever had. The owner, who speaks English, and his wife and coworkers were very nice and helped with everything, including a free lunch box the day of our departure. The room was spacious, spotclean and with all modern facilities. The walk up to the renovated building with the rooms was really no problem, and it was possible to drive a short detour to park the car next to the building, free of charge. The dinner was excellent. My wife had a Cordon Bleu, and I got one of the best beefs I've had in years. No wonder, as the meat was from the house' own butcher shop. We'll be back for sure!
Enjoying a scenic location in the Ölschnitz valley (Ölschnitztal), this hotel is situated in Bad Berneck and offers free WiFi. It is surrounded by the Fichtelgebirge Mountains, in Franconia. Guests can start the day with a rich and varied breakfast buffet in the morning in the breakfast room. Come to the Wohlfühlhotel Heissinger and enjoy a tranquil location and a beautiful view of the castle tower and ruins. Despite the tranquillity, you are only 80 metres from the market square, 50 metres from the city centre and the spa gardens here in the centre of Bad Berneck. The hotel is just 5 km away from the Bad Berneck exit of the A9 motorway between Berlin and Munich. Be sure to take a trip to Bayreuth, which is just 15 km away. This makes the hotel an ideal place to stay if you are intending to visit the Wagner festival. The hotel is close to a whole series of hiking trails. Motorcyclists may also use the hotel as a good base for day-trips to the Fichtelgebirge range, the Franconian Forest (Frankenwald), Franconian Switzerland (Fränkische Schweiz) or the nearby Czech Republic. Free parking garages and spaces are available directly at the hotel. There are also more private and public spaces available for free from 18:00 until 10:00 in the area.
Pros: Nice place next the beautiful nature park. The hotel is located next the river, but the rooms on the other side of the building have very poor view to the bushes.
Cons: The hotel room looks like after the reconstruction, but it is equipped by the cheap furniture, the uncomfortable creaking beds with too soft mattresses, the unfunctional television and the poor quality shower box (the water goes through the closed door of the shower box; broken shower head).
Pros: Exellent family hotel in very pretty and authentik place. Family frendly and very helpful personal, everything clean and good renovated. Bonus - romantic river and great view to a castle and a tower from a balkony.
Pros: It is a family business, they are very nice, friendly, caring, very homely welcoming atmosphere
Cons: everything was perfect
Pros: In a wonderful forgotten village in Franconia (Nth Bavaria), surrounded by green hills. Large, comfortable rooms. Exceptional hosts. Friendly, helpful, informative.

Bayreuth is a 25-minute drive from the Preißinger Landhaus Hotel. Parking is free at the hotel.
Pros: The location of the hotel was great for a short stay in Warmensteinach. We stayed on our way from the Alps back up to Berlin. It was a good stop over point. The hotel itself is located in a scenic area. While our room did not have a view, it appears that many rooms had great views. The room itself had a country style and the bed/sheets were comfortable. The pool and sauna area are clean. The hotel grounds are beautifully maintained.
Cons: The bathroom fixtures were clean, but a bit dated. The dinner in the restaurant was too expensive for the quality.
Pros: Location with beautiful view and nice walking tracks
Pros: Perfectly quiet and comfortable, excellent from any point of view.
Pros: Kind and perfect hospitality as usual.
Cons: There is nothing unpleasant at Landhaus Preißinger.
Pros: Quiet, comfortable, excellent from any point of view.

When you stay at Barbara in Warmensteinach, you'll be near ski lifts, within a 5-minute drive of Ochsenkopf South Chairlift and Freilandmuseum Grassemann. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: I had booked a studio, which is not at the hotel but some 300m away. The distance is easily done on foot and I went to the hotel every morning for their magnificent breakfast. The place is quiet.
Cons: The internet connection was erratic, always unavailable at more than 2m from the door, and sometimes totally absent for hours.
Pros: Excellent and very well appointed appartments, comfortable living and every attention for visitors well being. Great breakfasts and good local restaurants and bars.

Pros: very good food ... tasty and great quality
Cons: internet not fast
Pros: Big, nice room, Beer garden, breakfast. Very nice village.
Cons: No air condition in the room.
Pros: A family concern + we felt part of the family
Cons: Parking was opposite on street with meter payment required but family said the attendent wouldn't be on duty anymore on a Friday afternoon or Saturday morning......
Pros: Very very very nice hotel, you feel like at home, staff was extremely helpful and friendly!!! Breakfast was more than expected !! I recommend so much!
Pros: Very comfortable room, superb breakfast and a lovely and friendly hostess,
Cons: Nothing I can think of.
Pros: The view from our balcony was breathtaking. Our hostess was extremely friendly and helpful.
Pros: breakfast is an absolute hit! it is in a very good location, one can reach both natural beauty and cultural attractions easily, the view from the room is superb the owner is really kind and helpful I can only recommend this place :)

Pros: Hotel Kaiseralm beautifully located in the Bavarian hills 26 km from Bayreuth, convenient to the Wagner festival (the hotel provides shuttles at 9€ r/t). Across the street is a nature park with sensational hiking trails. I was there in August for the Wagner Festival but the hotel is clearly also set up for winter sports as well. There is a lovely indoor swimming pool and two saunas. The breakfast buffet was extensive and excellent; the food over all in the restaurant and beer garden was delicious, well-prepared, and reasonably priced.
Cons: Plugs to recharge my iPhone were inconveniently placed; in general the decor could be updated; the wifi was iffy and worked best in my bathroom.
Pros: This is a very nice destination hotel with a nice pool, spa, etc. and good food. One can eat indoors or outdoors. The hotel is in the country and is near hiking trails in the summer and ski runs in the winter.
Cons: Once you have arrived, there are no other places to go. The nearest town is 2 miles away. So unless you wish to drive to another town, all your meals are at the hotel restaurant or bar.
Pros: Great breakfast, very very helpful staff.
Cons: Our non smoking room still smelt strongly of cigarettes. No opportunity to get food after about 9.30pm
Pros: Extremely friendly staff and a very clean hotel. Dinner in the restaurant was amazing. I would definately return here again.
Pros: Friendly staff, with a family-run, non-corporate feel to the hotel. The view from my room on 4th Floor, overlooking the village and surrounding hills, was spectacular. My room was spacious and cheerfully bright. Bonus of Nürnberger bratwurst in breakfast buffet. The hotel car park has plenty of capacity and the markings give everybody a decent amount of space for their vehicles. Readily accessible, positioned just off the main road past Bischofsgrun, making getting out and about the Fichtelgebirge by vehicle a simple task. Cable car up the mountain is at the bottom of a hill just down from hotel and well within walking distance. Daily chocolate on pillow was a nice touch.
Cons: A few minor things: cornflake dispenser was flakey (pun intended); struggled a couple of times to get a cup for my tea for my breakfast table; tissue box in my room was not replaced once used up. Pillows were curiously unsupportive, behaving almost like mini-beanbags. Among foreign channels provided, no English language TV station options. Whether going into the village or from it, there's a large steep hill to walk up.
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff, location was good, short distance by car to the ski slopes
Cons: Limited selection of food at the dinner buffet
This hotel is quietly located on the edge of a forest outside Warmensteinach, in the Fichtelgebirge Mountains. Rooms at Hotel Waldbaude Warmensteinach feature a modern design with stylish white furniture. All rooms include a flat-screen satellite TV, a private bathroom and a balcony or terrace. Apartments have a fully equipped kitchen. The hotel is 6 km from the Ochsenkopf ski region and 12 km from Ochsenkopfschanze ski jump. On-site parking is free at the hotel. Several restaurants can be reached in a short walking distance. It is 25 minutes from the A9 motorway and a 30-minute drive from Bayreuth.
Pros: Nice beds and good looking rooms. The breakfast is recommended, lots to choose from. The staff is really helpful and showed us what restaurants to choose from and were to buy supplies if needed.
Cons: No proper air-conditioning in the rooms, we stayed during very hot day. Door let's much noise from the corridor in/out. Luckily we didn't have people running around making sounds.
Pros: Great value all round
Pros: Location excellent, very clean, the view is amazing and the personal was very kind! Free parking.
Cons: The towels smell odd.
Pros: Stuff was excellent!!!
Cons: An old hotel, the bed was in really bad condition, smell of dust everywhere, and the towels didn't smell good neither.
Pros: Affordable, clean, and ultra friendly staff.
Cons: Nothing. It was a great stay.
Pros: Friendly family pension Good breakfast Confortable bed Beautiful landscape
Pros: Beautiful area Clean premises Good facilities - own equipped kitchen
Pros: Remote hillside location
Cons: No sale of drinks
Pros: Staff is very friendly and helpful. Beautiful surroundings.
Cons: Wifi isn't always the strongest, understandable given the location.
Pros: Great location, awesome for people with pets and also nice breakfast!
Located in Bad Berneck im Fichtelgebirge, Hotel Hartl's Lindenmühle is within a 15-minute drive of Bischofsgrüner Forst and Bischofsgruen Church. Featured amenities include multilingual staff and a safe deposit box at the front desk. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Excellent hotel in very beautiful area! Very nice personell. Room was very pleasant. Dinner was very very good!
Pros: Fine but simple room. Breakfast is ok.
Cons: It was very hot in the room, while outside temperature was not too warm. So in summertime the room shall be even more hot, and the is no airco.
Pros: Breakfast was generous and the lady serving us was friendly and did a great job considering she was on her own with many guests. The swimming pool and Sauna are small but pleasant. Our room was nice with a large and well equipped bathroom, as it should be for €214 per night. It didn't feel like a "suite" though, and the attempt to make it into a "Zen" suite by putting a bathtub in the bedroom and wallpapering a corner with a Japanese scene is simply ridiculous. A nice sitting area would have been more appropriate.
Cons: The staff were generally very friendly and helpful but the Hotel seems understaffed. When we arrived, with heavy luggage, we were greeted by the proprietor and informed there was no lift. He offered no help taking our luggage to the second floor. There were other occasions when he was extremely inattentive; e.g., asking us to sit in the bar and then disappearing, leaving us to go looking for staff to place an order 15 minutes later. I really expect better and more attentive service. On our first evening dining in the Hotel's restaurant we waited over an hour for our food and hence choose to dine elsewhere on the other nights. We found a couple of nice Franconian restaurants/beergardens in town. Bad Berneck is supposedly a spa town, with the hotel right at the "Kurpark", yet there were no facilities that I would expect in a spa town. It all felt very faded. It was pleasant enough to stay in Bad Berneck for a few days but it really didn't meet my expectations as a "Bad". There'd be nothing wrong with the Hotel as a 3 star venue with an appropriate price. But it simply didn't live up to the description and the price. I must say the photographer did a brilliant job, it all sounded and looked much better on the website.
Pros: Room was nice, clean and despite being a hotel room had that "home" vibe. Breakfast was great, wide selection of cereals, fresh fruit, cheese, ham, fresh baked bread and bagels. Nice selection of drinks like orange juice, milk, tea, coffee It was all that I expected and more
Pros: I do like everything at this hotel .From wonderful service ,Devine food to great location .Best regards
Pros: Simple but cozy. Old fashioned. Family owned and run. Good service. Excellent breakfasts. Ideal for anyone planning to attend the Bayreuth Festival.
Cons: Nothing to speak of
Pros: We had a wonderful time here! Great hotel with an excellent staff!!! Everyone we encountered went out of their way to make our stay awesome!! We liked the pool, sauna, and the tasty breakfast buffet, and the rooms are so cozy. We really enjoyed our personal fireplace (it’s not real but looks real) in our room. The food was also a highlight and we ended up eating here for the entire stay. We'll be back for sure!!!
Cons: Nothing negative to write here, everything was great!!
Pros: Great location (fitted well to my business meetings). Parking good.
Cons: Room could benefit from coffee/tea making facilities
A stay at Gasthof Deutscher Adler & Hotel Puchtler places you in the heart of Bischofsgruen, steps from Bischofsgrüner Forst and Bischofsgruen Church. Featured amenities include multilingual staff, luggage storage, and a safe deposit box at the front desk. This hotel has 2 meeting rooms available for events. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: We have stayed at this hotel several times and knew what to expect. We weren't disappointed. We had a lovely room with a balcony. The room was nice and clean. There was plenty of free car park space. The staff were very friendly.
Cons: Nothing - we enjoyed every minute
Pros: I've stayed at the Deutsche Adler twice now while attending the Wagner Festival and if I'm lucky enough to get tickets again I'll stay there again. What's not to love? It's situated in a lovely, TINY town up in the mountains that's not crammed full of Americans. Some of the rooms are larger, some smaller, but they're all spotless and comfortable. The food is exceptional. The staff, from the owner/chef Thomas and his wife Petra, all the way down to the cleaning lady are wonderful. And all this for a VERY reasonable price.
Cons: These are NOT things I didn't like but that you SHOULD be aware of: Bischofsgrün is a little remote - a good 20-25 minute drive to the Hauptbahnhof or the Festspielhaus in Bayreuth, or 40-60 minutes on the public bus (which only runs a few times a day in each direction). Taxis are going to be €50-€60 each way. We were there for the Wagner Festival and arranged to be driven and picked up by the hotel (by Thomas, the owner!) for a much more reasonable €12 per person per opera. (Four in 2016, three in 2019.) Thomas speaks very good English but not all the staff does, and not everyone in town does. I had a great time trying to use the little German I know and they seemed to have fun practicing their English with us (and it should be emphasized, the staff are warm and incredibly hard working). If this is not something that you would find enjoyable you might want to consider a hotel in Bayreuth. Of course you'd be missing out on a lot.
Pros: The look and feel of the entire place and, they have a sauna
Cons: Na, everything was awesome
Pros: We picked this place due to the convenient location on our way through Germany towards Italy. It was quiet and relaxing. The food in the Gasthof was very good, and we very treated very friendly. The comfort rooms in the hotel were large with balconies, and the bathrooms were recently renovated. Highly recommended!
Pros: The room was clean, spacious and had a new bathroom. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was really nice and had multiple options. The view from the room was great.
Cons: There was a smell of cigarettes in the hall however there was no smell in the room which was great.

This family-run guest house stands on the old marketplace in Bad Berneck, surrounded by the Fichtelgebirge Mountains. It offers spacious rooms, free parking and traditional Franconian food. All rooms at the Gasthaus-Hotel Merkel include private bathrooms with hairdryers. Some rooms feature a balcony. Regional and seasonal meals are served in the Wirtsstube restaurant. In the summer months, guests can eat on the terrace. The surrounding nature park is ideal for hiking and cycling. After a long day, guests can relax in Hotel Merkel’s sauna. Gasthaus-Hotel Merkel is 20 minutes from Bayreuth and 45 minutes from the Czech border.
Pros: Very unfriendly place. But a charming town.
Cons: Traditional old-school guest house: limited services available, basic amenities. Stuck in the 1980-es.
Pros: We arrived late, around 22,30, the owner let us in with a smile, the beds were great, very comfy. Very clean rooms, nice bathrooms. The hosts were very friendly and breakfast was great. Beautifull little town, I wish we could stay longer to have a look around. All in all, I can definitely recommend it. We are family of 4 s with 2 teens so we took 2 double rooms.
Pros: Great location, friendly service, family atmosphere, great food in the restaurant.
Pros: Perfect little stop during our tour of Germany, beautiful location, food and the staff were very helpful. Would recommend
Cons: No lift and we were on the 2nd floor, so a little hard taking our suitcases upstairs
Cons: Clean. Newly redecorated ? Quiet Nice balcony overlooking a river Parking and wifi.
This hotel is beautifully located on a sunny, south-facing slope of Bischofsgrün, and enjoys a view of the Ochsenkopf (Ox’s head) mountain and the Weissmaintal valley. Guests are served a hearty, traditional breakfast in the Hotel garni Siebenstern's general recreational room which is tastefully decorated in a rustic style. Guests are free to use the large hotel terrace with a summer house and sun deck. When not going out to enjoy the nearby winter sports facilities, guests can relax in the hotel whirpool, sauna and solarium. The area offers various activities, such as skiing, cycling and hiking. The nearest airport is Nuremberg Airport, 81 km from Hotel garni Siebenstern.
Pros: Forest, natur
Cons: breakfast bad
Pros: Staff is friendly and willing to help. Breakfast good for the price.
Cons: Wi-Fi very weak and shaky, had to switch to my own mobile hotspot. Bathtub without a shower curtain, but the flooding was not too bad due to very low water pressure (takes some patience to get wet). No possibility to hang/fix the shower head - you hold it or it's wiggling in the bathtub. If the shower issues were fixed (which might be in other rooms), I'd rate the facilities "Okay".
Located in Bad Berneck im Fichtelgebirge, Hotel Blüchersruh is within a 15-minute drive of Bischofsgrüner Forst and Bischofsgruen Church. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Good reception
Cons: Not appropiate reception service, temperature in the room 17 degrees celsjus, angry welcome by the receptionist because of our late arrival (earlier, we let the hotel know of our late 11p.m. coming)
Pros: Friendly welcome, plenty of parking, comfortable room withfantastic shower! Good value breakfast and easy walking to town centre.
Cons: Only one plug socket in room but had splitter adaptor so not an issue for us
Pros: Great host, helped us and was most kind. Lovely breakfast. Watch the steep hill, great fun!
Pros: Everything was perfect - just for me. The location in the midle is great and just right. People of house were great and hosted me like a best friend.
Cons: Nothing - no bad feelings
Pros: Clean rooms. Comfortable beds
Cons: It is a little outside of town. But the walk was easy
Pros: It was very good.
Cons: The swimming pool was out of order in this time.
Pros: Very helpful and friendly host. Quiet location. Excellent breakfast. Swimming pool a bonus
Cons: If you don't have a car you can get around on buses but more difficult at weekends. Decor rather dated
Pros: Staff was fantastic. Very accommodating. Rooms were spacious. Breakfast was very good.
Cons: I understand a lot of hotels in Europe don’t have ac but I would love it if there were ceiling or portable fans in the rooms.
Pros: Clean and silent
Pros: The staff were immensly helpful. My room was comfortable and it was cleaned extremely well.
Situated in the heart of the small town of Goldkronach, close to the festival city of Bayreuth, this individual hotel invites you to discover the Fichtelgebirge mountains and the Franconian Switzerland. A former coaching inn for Bavarian royalty, the Meister Bär Hotel bei Bayreuth is now a 3-star superior establishment. Regional dishes and fine wines can be enjoyed in the hotel’s restaurant or beer garden, while the typically Franconian tavern offers fresh produce from the in-house butcher’s each day. Family rooms and junior suites are available in addition to single, double and twin rooms.
Pros: The hotel was pleasantly rural and cosy and the staff welcoming and helpful. The food was good.
Pros: Check in outside of working hours,
Pros: I was in Bayreuth for the Wagner. You get more for your money than the hotels in town. There is a shuttle bus to get you to the Festspielhaus and back. The restaurant is advertised to close at 10pm but actually stays open late so you can have a proper meal when you get back from the theater. The breakfast is excellent.
Cons: Goldkronach is a quiet village. The only thing for visitors are a museum with restrictive opening times and country walks. The Humbold Weg has a visitors center, but check the opening times. It's not an international tourist destination so don't expect English to be spoken.
Pros: Very pleasant stay. Staff were very helpful and attentive. Breakfast was good and room was clean and homely. Would recommend it. It’s great for the Wagner festival as the hotel provided a free shuttle to/from the festival hall.
Cons: Very minor but it would be nice if the gym was better equipped. If you don’t have a car it’s a bit isolated but you can still get an hourly bus into Bayreuth
Pros: Clean restaurant...imaculate white tablecloth...rich breackfast menue...very nice village with excelent backeries..nice suroundings for hiking...nice people in hotel..takes care for those who go to Bayreuth Festspiele by providing free of charge transport
Pros: Breakfast was good. Dinner OK but limited choice with some things unavailable. Desserts very sketchy - only ice creams. The shuttle service to the Opera House was superb.
Cons: Our rooms, 105 and 104, on the back were very disappointing with single beds and no view at all
Pros: Nice room. The shuttle to the Festival was brilliant and free.
Cons: Unfortunately the swimming pool has gone. This was a big disappointment
Pros: Great, comfortabĺe rooms, nice balcony overlooking village, every help and assistane to make your stay comfortable. A good restaurant menu ang great buffet breakfast choice. A free shuttle to and from the Wagner festival with welcome drink upon return.
Cons: Nothing at all
Pros: I selected the property because of its proximity (by car) from the Wagner Opera house. My bedroom and bathroom were clean. The staff was professional and nice. I could park my car easily. Breakfast was of good quality. I even got a gift upon check-out (a bottle of local licor).
Cons: The property is clean, restaurant included, but old fashioned. The bedding, curtains and carpet in my bedroom were very old. The window frames and stores have also seen better days.
Pros: Staff very friendly breakfast excellent
Cons: Room was a little tired needed decorating and decent curtains
