Colston Hall Cottages - Woodbridge - Building

9.2 Excellent (119 reviews)
C$ 188+
Overview Reviews
Located in Woodbridge, Colston Hall Cottages is a 4-minute drive from Shawsgate Vineyard and 8 minutes from Framlingham Castle.
5.4 Okay
Pros: It was quiet and the shower was really good.
Cons: Not fit for 4 people and you kept bumping your head in the cottage, moving around the house was difficult. There wasn't enough room in the kitchen. Disappointing because they could have moved us to a bigger cottage, as no one else was there.
7.9 Good
Pros: Good location for us as we had a wedding to go to in a Framlingham but otherwise not much there. Big, comfortable house with parking right outside. Very nice touch to have a kettle, coffee and biscuits in every room.
Cons: No hand towels, only big bath towels. Might be a personal thing but I don’t like to use my bath towel for hands and face.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A peaceful, private and rural setting; the perfect place to unwind.......the neighbouring sheep only added to the ambience. The cottage was very spacious and comfortable with the convenience of a ground floor bedroom with ensuite bathroom.
Cons: Nothing not to like
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Well equipped cottage. Comfortable bed. Very clean Peaceful, rural location. Easy drive to good local pub (shame it's too difficult to walk along dark lanes) . Framlingham also close by.
Cons: Only minor points, but wifi could be stronger and, given wet weather, a board game or jigsaw in the cottage would have been useful.

C$ 276+
Overview Reviews
Located in Aldeburgh, Wentworth Hotel is a 1-minute drive from Moot Hall and 5 minutes from Thorpeness Windmill. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is right opposite the beach and looks very inviting from the outside. The hotel is very well appointed and the room we had was beautifully decorated. The bathroom was huge and the lounges in the main area was really nice.
Cons: It was very hot in our room, but it was during a particularly hot weekend. We had a little fan which just about kept us going!
7.1 Good
Pros: The building and its relaxing sitting rooms. The restaurant. The location which was stunning because of the very decent weather. Help with getting suitcases up and down the stairs.
Cons: Car parking is always an issue. However there seem top be two rules in place. Car spaces cannot be reserved yet there was a reserved space when we arrived. I would suggest that day trippers calling in for lunch cannot park in the hotel car park. No local beers in the bar. Breakfast not fully laid out until 20 minutes after opening time. The price.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The position of the hotel is excellent and so we spent several hours sitting on the terrace overlooking the beach.
7.1 Good
Pros: Dog friendly and hospitable. Great location and good food.spacious lounge area and ok parking facilities. Will certainly look to revisit next year.
Cons: N/A
6.7 Good
Pros: Old style service, and menu choices, Kedgeree and Devilled KIdneys, were both excellent

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location on the sea front, ambience of the hotel, breakfast, comfy bed, very clean bathroom, everything in room worked.
Cons: Thought my receptionist on check in was abit fed up with her job. It was end of day and wasn't a problem as such but left with impression she'd had enough!
7.9 Good
Pros: Food
Cons: Room rather small

7.9 Good
Pros: The staff were all friendly and helpful. This hotel is popular with older clientele, although we did see a couple of young families too. My Mother (86 y.o) was staying at the White Lion for a week and we joined her for a couple of days. Aldeburgh, like the hotel itself, is a quiet, gentile place with a few interesting bookshops, galleries and great fish and chips.
Cons: Nothing really, but this is not a place if you want a nightlife, which we didn't. Unfortunately the splendid little Tudor building very near the hotel, which I believe houses a local museum, was closed for renovation.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Services was very good, staff are obviously well trained. Bed was very comfortable and the breakfast and bar area are very good
Cons: The building is a little higgldy piggldy in parts and stairs are a challenge,

6.5 Good
Pros: Location and friendly staff
Cons: Dangerous stairs Two flights of very steep stairs to a small and low ceiling room over priced at £190 per night Food overpriced and service poor due to lack of staff
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Lovely staff who were prepared to go the extra mile. Nice location and ambiance. Excellent breakfast.
Cons: It was a very hot night and needed to sleep with the windows open there was quite a pungent smell from the pond.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful Elizabethan house. Full of history & charm.
7.1 Good
Pros: The bedroom entrance to the on suite was dangerous and difficult
Cons: The bathroom entrance from the bedroom
7.5 Good
Pros: The service
Cons: The pillows- hard and furniture in room needed a freshen up, stains on dressing table, wardrobe door didn’t shut.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The way it looks / it’s history. Very comfortable and great food.
Cons: I just feel the staff need more training to be multi skilled. Each time we waited a longtime for food orders, food to arrive and payment to be taken. It was the same when we got married there a year ago. Lovely place and staff are friendly but more training is needed.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Lovely venue and nice attentive staff
Cons: No hair dryer in room Nespresso machine n/f and some of the food was poor quality
7.5 Good
Pros: Historical building with all the creaks and low ceilings one would expect with modern bathroom facilities.
Cons: Like so many hotels there is NEVER enough flat space or shelving for ones "stuff" in the bathroom. Also the water softener had made the bath a veritable skating rink!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location was excellent and the food was very good
Cons: Rooms were small and one room shower you could not fully stand up in due to the slopping roof.
6.0 Good
Pros: The pool and spa was excellent as was the breakfast.
Cons: It should have been a lovely break for us but instead we spent the time moving from room to room to avoid the hum from the kitchen extractor and the noise from a wedding. The hotel had a wedding on a Thursday night and we were in room 25 which overlooked the garden and the wedding marquee. In the end we asked to move and they temporarily moved us up in the courtyard overnight. The hotel should have put us there in the first place, knowing that there was a wedding coming up. If you are booking, I'd suggest checking with them direct as to whether there is a wedding while you are there. The hotel also needs to decide whether they are a wedding venue or a hotel. Its not possible to have general guests AND wedding guests.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Grove House was lovely, nice rooms, friendly staff and the breakfast was lovely. We had an eventful trip up with the car breaking down and being towed back home, resulting in a lost night which was paid for but the staff member was more than helpful and tried to be as accommodating as he could by offering to stay up later for our arrival. We made it the next day. Our room was clean and comfortable, and offered tea/coffee making facilities. Pleasant friendly atmosphere and felt welcome.

Cons: Beds were very hard.
7.9 Good
Pros: Cant fault either the decor or the cleanliness. Breakfast was very good. Ground floor room, easy access.
Cons: The room was very small, the bathroom was tiny like being in a wardrobe, although the shower was fine. Biggest minus for us was that the room had no window at all, other than a velux in the roof.

Golf course was lovely to look out on to and golfing facilities looked amazing. Great location for visiting local tourist sites e.g Sutton Hoo, Woodbridge.
Cons: Slightly extend the breakfast time to 10.30am to ease the busy period in the breakfast room. Water in rooms would be helpful. Not enough shelving for toiletries in the adapted bathroom. Greater choice on restaurant and bar menus for dinner.
