Pros: "They seemed like a good airline. It was my first time flying with them, and I got upgraded to business class on the very first flight of my trip. What a great first impression! They're quite service oriented, with attendants speaking multiple languages. The in-flight magazine was good but not available on every plane. The food was usually pretty good, and the live map was convenient."
Cons: "All of the flights were late (I had 6 of them on this trip, all thru Air Canada, and not a single one departed on time). All of my layovers were long, except one, which was planned to be about an hour but ended up being less than 30min. That one was a pain: had to go through Canadian customs and then run across the Toronto airport, but thankfully my next flight was still boarding - and ended up running late because they had to de-ice the plane. One of the flights ran late, and as we were reaching the gate a passenger felt the need to yell racist/ignorant comments at a fellow passenger who wouldn't sit down, and then the flight attendant - overall that was a real shame."
Cons: "Ended up missing this connecting flight to Calgary . Our plane left 45 minutes late from Phoenix because of a gas spill so when we got to Vancouver from Phoenix, we had to go through customs which took extra time. When we first landed in Vancouver and before we even got off the plane, we had 5 minutes to board onto our next flight which obviously was not going to happen. We rushed through customs and still might have been able to board our flight at the last possible minute except the staff at the airport led us to somehow get out of the secure area and have to go through security again before going to our gate. That took so much extra time. This never should have happened. When you get off the plane and have a connecting flight, there is always a way to get to the gate to board without having to go through security again. When we finally made it to our gate for our connecting flight, our plane had left and we were told to go to the air canada service desk. There was about 10 to 15 of us that had missed our connecting flight because of this so the 2 staff at the desk were trying to help us all but had to wait for their manager to come and confirm they could give us another flight which took quite a bit longer than I thought. We ended up getting booked on standby on a flight straight from Vancouver to Saskatoon in 2 hours which was our final destination, but never was told that because of all this headache, we should have grabbed our luggage. We thought our luggage was going to go on without us on the flight we missed but apparently if you do not get on your flight they don’t send your bags which makes sense. We also had thought for a second that maybe our luggage didn’t go on the flight from Vancouver to Calgary but if it didn’t then someone would most likely put it on the flight to Saskatoon. We should have asked about it but they should also have mentioned it when we were in a panic. And I understand you can’t put extra people on a flight that is booked, but what if the plane we were on standby for was full and we had to wait even longer .. could have taken us a day to get home when this wasn’t our fault we missed our flight, but was air Canada’s."

After a confusing conversation from the officer not understanding that I was not travelling to France ( assumption) I was asked to show evidence I had the right to enter UK !!!! I explained I lived there permanently ; I was then asked why French hate English so much!!! To which I explained only narrow minded people would believe so and that the style of her comment were not appropriate . I explained my children were half French half British and that her comment was offensive ."

Passengers who needed assistance boarding seemed to have to deal with haphazard organisation, and the fact that they seemed surprised so many people brought carry-on luggage that the bins filled up is laughable. Changed my return flight to Alaska Air."

Since we left Vancouver late, we arrived late and had to sit on the runway for 30 minutes until we could get a gate at LAX. Then when we finally arrived at SFO, the plane was circling above SFO in a storm for another one hour and fifteen minutes..."

I didn't pay for a meal but it would've been nice to have some pretzels or something like that. The controls for the lights, and attendant call button were on the hand rest. It was very uncomfortable since it was a raised section, and more than once I turned on the light without meaning to do so. I won't fly Air Canada Rouge ever again, if I can help it."
Pros: "At $320usd per person per direction, you can't beat the price thanks to whatever magical gremlins Kayaks employs to fix prices for them...we flew Air Canada and we'e very pleased with their fleets new addition of 787 dream liners. Do yourself a favor and find a flight on this aircraft. From takeoff to landing, there was never a question about our safety and comfort, and the sleek, organic aesthetic of the dream liner somehow met a new standard for both ergonomy and tech/entertainment. I especially found the sub ports in my personal screen useful."

They are things you don't notice when a crew is highly attentive, as you find on Cathay Pacific, Lufthansa, or Air New Zealand. The crew were friendly, but not quite in charge."

Then my friend went and got a wheel chair for me. we then joined our two friends, who also had wheelchairs. however, they had first class and was taken immediately to the first class lounge. I was waiting forever behind the check-in desk in Vancouver. I then put my bags on my chair and used the chair like a walker! Still no help. When I asked for help I was told that I was early and I could wait. Not the right answer. I was told to be at the airport 2 1/2 hrs. early which I was. Until I got to the woman at the boarding desk at E84, I was treated terribly. Since we travel with our friends we had hoped to at least see them. No way. Air Canada mad sure of that. also Not a peanut unless we spent money!!!"

And because I had a connecting flight, the delay made me have to spend ANOTHER extra night in the airport, AND never compensated me for the connecting flight ticket which I had to purchase another one of."

Even though it was the same flight, we had to de-plane in Lhasa and go through security both coming off the plane and twice again before re-boarding the same plane, to the same seats. Probably a China / Tibet thing, but we received no explanation from Sichuan. After this uber-security play, we got back on the same plane and sat for almost 2 hours on the tarmac, even though we were the only plane in the airport! Sichuan served us lunch while still on the ground, but I would have preferred an explanation from the crew for the unreasonable delay."

We were finally boarded at 12:30am. But on the plane we were not given information and continued to sit there for an hour and a half while the plane was further delayed. We finally left around 2:30am, six hours after we were supposed to leave. I missed my ride at Beijing and my first night at the hotel."

Crews definitely lack language abilities and clearly follow the Chinese pattern of ignoring non-Chinese - you will never see a smile from a flight attendant, they'll address you as "hello" in any situation and will not communicate to you in English. Rather poor service-wise. Other than that, good flight for the price - just distract from the majority of Chinese clientele behaving loudly and violating your private space deliberately all the time - but it's a Chinese airline, after all. Americans are much louder. Entrainment is mediocre, not much information is offered in broken English at least"

Cons: "Not being able to do online check in in Frankfurt because the hotel did not have Explorer. Google Chrome does not work with China Eastern. It took me an hour to discover that in Korea before I switched. How about a warning up front? Just nothing but error codes. Finally, the check in process in Frankfurt was outlandish for MU 220. We arrived too early; only to find Delta in place of CE I get that. He suggested coming back at 10:30. We did. Still no CE clerks. At about 10:45 someone showed up. So when another gentleman got in line so did we. This individual who started rearranging the stanchions notice us standing in line and offered no information. Then a tour group showed up and filled in the rest of the line but in the line next to us. Finally, at about 11:35 the clerks were ready to start check in. Just prior to that they had changed the electronic signs to show that we were now in the Priority check in line. No problem, so I thought, because the first individual had seen us waiting since she got there. However, when the poor gentleman, who was in front of us, tried to check in in the economy line he was refused and so were my wife and I. The only explanation the person gave was that she "was only there to care for the economy check in line". No compassion, no caring no thinking outside the box! The tour guide noticed the situation and motioned us ahead of her group. My wife and I passed to a counter who did her job; but another CE counter rep refused to simply do his job and check in the poor man in. He was ushered to the back of the line beyond the stanchions. This left a bad taste in my mouth. I recently watched a documentary about how they were handled the great amount of passengers at the "World's busiest Airport". They failed to mention not really caring about the one lone individual who had showed up early. My wife and I have discussed this problem and will seriously consider not using China Eastern any time soon!"

Pros: "If you can help it, do NOT travel on China Eastern. This is an airline that does NOT care about the passenger and does things the way they are done in communist dictatorships. My flight was from REP to PVG and then to ORD. The first leg (MU514) was delayed by 16 hrs - we were not told straight away about the length of the delay, every 2 hrs they would come up with a take off time and then delay it again. We spent the night at the airport - no food, no hotel. There were measely vouchers for a burger and a drink in the morning. We missed our onward flight and were delayed another 20 hrs in Shanghai. After queueing for hours we were given a hotel. A nightmare."

Pros: "The food was good given I had specialised meals, in which it was provided with ease. The plane ride was easy and comfy (6'3) enough leg room for my hight unlike most. Not overly strict with luggage, always asking for a better to serve. Transportation to and from the provided hotel was easy crew was helpful, hotel staff arranged everything including pickup time, wakeup call, and breakfast. The Chinese officials were helpfull as well since they had to check my luggage and assist me for I forgot to removed my batteries to my carry on instead ."

Airline is impossible to get a hold of over the phone and no one can help in person at airport. Worst airline with incompetent staff"
Pros: "The boarding process was very efficient and the flight attendants were very friendly and accommodating as I do not speak Chinese. The flight was on time and had a smooth take off and landing."
Cons: "Not the airline's fault but I was seated with a young child next to me (I was in a window seat) and another young child in front of me. The two kids spent the entire flight jumping around in the seats playing and talking over me. For a short flight it was bearable but on a longer flight would have been very annoying. The flight crew did very little to get them to sit or stop yelling during the flight."

I was left alone at the counter and forced to buy an entirely new ticket from a different carrier last minute. I do admit I am a taller than average guy, but if you are over 6' tall you will have NO legroom. And I mean none. It is an insulting amount of legroom. My 5'6" wife barely had any room, never mind myself. On my flight back, I requested an emergency exit row seat (as I noticed on the flight over the emergency exit row was filled with old people and young couples with babies/ young children). And was informed it would cost $120 USD per flight per person. My jaw almost hit the floor. You mean to tell me that the emergency exit row - the row where in the case of an emergency you are supposed to physically be able to assist passengers - actually COSTS money to sit in? That is an absolute disgrace. You have to pay for the added responsibility to help in the case of an emergency? Of course, once I was on the flight the emergency exit row was filled with old people and babies. All of course perfectly capable of helping in the case of an emergency. I was, and still am furious. The gall to charge that much money and then give the responsibility to people unable to help? Meanwhile, an able-bodied couple in the 20s is denied and I am cramped in my less-than-acceptable-for-budget-airlines legroom. And the food. Putrid. Inedible. It was somehow overwhelmingly fragrant while far too bland. Its hard to imagine someone putting together that meal and feeling proud. The meals all screamed "I do not care about my customers." In fact, that is the overwhelming feeling I got from Air China. An airline that truly could not careless about their customers. I would not reccommend. Even if they are the cheapest by a far margin. Stay away. Do not go near. Air China is a terrible airline that should be avoided at all costs."

Cons: "I missed my first flight due to heavy fog in Nanchang and the highways were closed, so when I arrived, they wanted to charge my $2000 to change all of my flights. After 2 hours of excruciating battle, they agreed to let me buy another flight to beijing for $400 and I could meet my originally scheduled 2nd flight to the USA. USA airlines would NEVER charge this outrageous price if a flight was missed to to being out of my control. Will never fly Air china again."

Cons: "Traveling from Bangkok we were required to go through security twice more at Beijing from some reason, and then again prior to boarding our carry-ons were checked again and all water/liquids taken from us. This became a problem because after the initial meal and drink service there was no service for more than six hours. For at 12 hour flight only two meals were offered. The flight attendants were scarce and unwilling to help people, even closing the curtains to their work areas. My girlfriend is on medication and shouldn't become dehydrated so I was forced to "acquire" a bottle of water from the service area when the attendant left. The food was atrocious, far worse than when we flew from San Francisco to Beijing for some reason. I believe the crew was understaffed and tired. Overall it was extremely disappointing and I will do my best never to fly with them again, or through Beijing airport."
