They seem to give preferential treatment to passengers they sat with, flirted with and laughed; reposting these passengers to first class or business. Meanwhile were extremely rude to foreign passengers and even got hands with some French passengers who could not understand the crew due to a language barrier. Overall flight was okay after we finally took off once the crew was finished with play time with their friends."

China eastern agents at Delhi lied about the status of the connecting flight from Shanghai to SFO and made us start the journey knowing fully well that we will miss the connection. At Shanghai the agent and her manager were one of the most rude and incompetent folks I have come across - they took three hours to handle 50 passengers. And to top it the immigration folks were equally inefficient they took 3 hours to clear 40 ~ 50 folks for 24 hours transit visa. There were two agents and one supervisor. Do the math - 13 to 16 minutes per person. We stood in line for straight 6 hours. My wife had swollen feet for next few days. China may be great at manufacturing but service is surely not theie thing. Avoid Shanghai airport and China Eastern like the plague."

Nom chinese passports were moved to the side and we got bording pass at 1.55 with a boarding time pf 1.45!!!. Two women had behind the counter had some personal fight and some ego clash on who’s responsibilty to serve the people held waiting in side. We couldnt make it on time... One bus for a a330 full of passengers. Horrible food"

This flight we were hopeful of actually getting off at a proper gate. We pulled up to a gate, but in true China form, we didn't actually get to enter the airport from the gate. We exited the plane as if we were going to enter the airport from that gate. However, we were guided away from the airport entrance down a set of stairs to board a bus to be transported no more than 200m to a ground level entrance. I wish I was making this stuff up!"

Pros: "Nov 29, 2017. While flying China Eastern through Quingdao Liuting International Airport with overnight transit, I knew that airport shuts down overnight and was prepared for it with off the airport hotel reservation and all. But I was surprised at the time of check in at the origination airport (San Francisco) that I would be required to pickup the checked in luggage at Quingdao and check it back in next day for connecting flight to Shanghai. There was a Left Luggage facility at Quingdao Liuting Aurport on second floor departure level, to take away some pain. But more surprise as they charged me for two full days just for overnight service. Argument was that I am leaving the luggage today evening at 7:00pm but will pick 5:30am tomorrow morning thus making two calendar day charges. Staff did not know English but was very nice and helpful. It was very clear that they were policy bound and the money was not going in her pocket. For two pieces it was RMB 80 (20 per piece per day). Fortunate my English to Chinese translator phone app T Mobile One Plan and extra RMBs I had kept hoping to defray such unexpected situations helped a lot to make handling this situation easier. Otherwise I would have been much more dismayed :( But all in all I was impressed by the Airline Crews’ hospitality and Airport staff professionalism :) despite the fact that I don’t they get paid as much as most of their western counterparts. I read that a new Quingdao airport is on the cards in 2019 or so and that can change the situation. So I have mentioned a date at the start of this comment to make sure future readers have a time context too."

Cons: "When making the reservations I was never told that there is a 24 hour visa in Beijing, as a matter of fact, the airline changed my return flight for a 25.6 hour lay over in Beijing. When I arrived at the airport, I was told I could not board the plane. I called the airline and was given another flight to Shanghai where I could stay up to 144 hours for another $1600.00. The reservations clerk didn't tell me about the Visa issues even after numerous phone calls. Since the airline is "China Eastern" I would presume they'd know the rules before booking and changing flights violating the rules, unless that's the scam to get people to pay even more for their flights."

Cons: "I had a bad experience to fly with China Eastern Airline. My flight on 04th Aug 2016 from Singapore to Shanghai was delayed for 03 hours. The flight number was MU544. Supposed to fly at 00.55am, but the flight was delayed until 3.30 am. Plus, I had to pay $60 for changing my name as the staff at Singapore Airport Said that my name didn't put in sequence. My name in the passport: Mai Thi Hien. But on the system was: Mai, Hien Thi. They said I had no choice if I didn't pay I can't take the flight. So, I had no choice to pay S$60 for changing the name in order to board the flight to Seoul. I have been with other flight before, but that kind of things never happened to me before. My husband had helped to book a flight before, instead of putting my real name, he put my English Name but nothing happened at that time. The staff of that airline was a good assistance they helped me to change the name without charges. Then, when I arrived the Shanghai airport. I had to wait to change the flight & went through immigration to checkout & waited to get the luggage & then check on the immigration again. All the procedure made me feel so frustrated. On 10th Aug 2016, I returned back to Singapore, then the flight was delayed again about 1hours & half. Luckily, they changed us to another airline: Asiana, which was a direct flight to Singapore.
