Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "on time departure, early arrival"
Pros: "Friendly staff"
Cons: "2 hour delay due to mechanical issue sitting on the tarmac."
Cons: "Very bumpy ride I hated it"
Pros: "On board crew was friendly and capable."
Cons: "My first and last flight on the CRJ 9. It's much less comfortable than a prop plane, for a 90 minute+ flight."
Pros: "Not much."
Cons: "1. Broken arm, asked for 1st pre-boarding. Was told, “it’s over there”. That’s it. By the time I got on everyone in my section was already on. No one helped me w my one backpack, watching me struggle. 2. The crew appeared to hate their jobs. Scowls and general poor attitudes. 3. Food. Airline food in general is not good. However, this stuff was barely edible. Terrible. 4. Information. None. I had to use the APP to get any info. My connecting flight was almost 4 hours delayed - w NO info. In fact, NO GATE AGENT the entire 4 hours. After finally boarding my flight, the captain apologized for the delay because of a two hour delay in another city. Numbers don’t match - sorry. Then he announced we needed to di ice. No problem. Safety first. He said no longer than 30 minutes. One hour later we were on our way. Overall, I was extremely disappointed in my experience with Air Canada - very disappointed."
Pros: "The crew was sweet and friendly."
Cons: "When one is trying to watch a movie, you can't hear anything. The connection was very very poor."
Pros: "Seats were fairly comfortable. Crew on flight from Toronto to San Jose were friendly. Crew on home flight very aloof."
Cons: "Did not know you should pre book food. They ran out. Very frustrating. Said they had breakfast food and snacks. All that was left by the time they got to our seats were chips and nuts. And they didn’t seem to care. Entertainment worked better on way back. Could not get it going on way there, even with crew assistance. Line ups for check in in San Jose were crazy. Over 40 minutes."
Cons: "It was good"
Cons: "The aircraft was so small there was not enough room for even most standard size carry-ons. The crew were not patient and gave passengers attitude for trying to bring their carry-ons onboard. On the way back from Toronto, we were sitting on the runway for more than one hour waiting for "de-icing". If this is a recurring thing, why not time the arrivals and departures better to avoid making people sit there, disconnected from everything and waiting? Also the screen on my "entertainment center" was broken but thankfully I had my own book to read. Air Canada has not had the most welcoming crew or most up to date fleet in my experience; I fly with them mostly because of their cheap fares. I guess "there ain't no such thing as a free lunch"."
Pros: "Walking past the Turkish Airlines desk in Dulles and knowing I would NEVER have to interact with these monsters again."
Cons: "I am an experienced traveler. I've been to 17 countries and have flown over a million miles in both business and coach. My wife encountered a problem in Istanbul that involved an airport transit visa through Canada. I am certain that any other airline we’ve ever flown would’ve assisted us, since it was easily resolved. To Turkish Airlines, this is simply a part of their business model and a chance to make more money. It took about 8 hours of our time at 5 different airport locations to eventually buy new tickets to get back the next day. Our original tickets say: “REISSUE With 200.00 USD penalty. What I didn’t see was the fine print at the bottom: “Turkish Airlines reserves the right to change rules regarding ticket changes and refunds.”. They mean it. As bad as our personal experience was, the real reason we are so appalled is that we were there long enough to see this is the norm for them. In our single day there, we saw at least 100 other travelers going through similar things. The ONLY solution ever offered is to purchase another ticket. We witnessed several people weeping. Many losing control and shouting. Their own personnel were screaming at customers (in a separate office area though, it was all yucks and laughing). These were people of all nationalities. Africans, Asians, Europeans. We were lucky because we had the means to purchase new tickets. Others clearly didn’t. I really don’t know what happened to some of them. One moment was very symbolic of the entire experience. Another vanquished traveler was paying $843 for a new ticket with cash. He handed her $845 but she, of course, had no change. Instead of the $5, he gave her two $1 bills. I had one in my pocket so gave it to her as well. She held my $1 bill up and pointed to the corner which had a very small piece torn off…no ink was missing…and sneered “I can’t accept this. She did this simply because she could. We were powerless. She knew it and reveled in it."
Cons: "Delayed for almost 2hrs"
Pros: "Although late, boarding was smooth and ready for take off quickly."
Cons: "Late again taking off. The staff were unpleasant as most air canada staff have been in recent years. Uncomfortable seats for a 9hour flight and miserable low energy staff didn’t help the experience either."
Cons: "i booked the flight in january and keyed in my passport expiration date several times online in the next several months...at the airport, i handed the air canada agent in miami my passport and she booked me and a checked bag through toronto to copenhagen...i went to board my connecting flight in toronto and was told my passport, which expires at the end of august, was no good as i needed to have 3 month left...so they refused to let me board and told me to go see customer service...so i go stand in line for several hours (was only one agent for the first 45 minutes and 10 people in front of me)...one woman going down the line to see what each person's issue was told me that it was my problem, not AC's...and that "we are only responsible for making sure your passport is valid for getting into canada"...i was on my own to find a hotel and a new flight...fortunately a supervisor saw me standing in a daze several minutes later and said that it was AC's mistake for not catching it in miami...so she booked me into a hotel, gave me the address to the US consulate and instructions on how to get an emergency passport...she said that it would be no problem as "this happens all the time"and went ahead and booked me on the next day's flight...so i was able to spend the next day getting the new passport and getting back to the airport to fly out that night, but i lost a day in copenhagen with my family...it seems to me that when flights are booked and passport info, including expiration date, are given, a simple cross check of dates would be easy, and, imho, incumbent upon the carrier taking you there, especially when "it happens all the time"...this was not done on 4 occasions between booking and my trip...there were other issues too which is why i will never fly air canada again and i will never travel though toronto...the return trip through that airport was a nightmare for many passengers."
Cons: "My flight was delayed by 3 hours, no information was provided on the delay and further delay at the gate waiting for the crew."
Pros: "Long wait for ticketing and at customs during transfer"
Cons: "While checking our bags at the counter we were given the wrong boarding pass (someone else's name on both) so we had to go through security twice. The flight was super cold. When I asked for a blanket for my wife, the flight attendant said it was $7."
Cons: "One of my three flights was unnecessarily delayed by two hours, enough that I missed my last connection and had to stay overnight in Vancouver. There were no technical complications or weather complications. It was simply because something had been misscheduled and the flight crew needed a longer rest time between flights. This is completely avoidable, and the attendent who checked me in even said so. While the hotel and shuttle were paid for, Air Canada only gave me a $7 breakfast voucher, which was only redeemable at the hotel's measly breakfast counter rather than anywhere in the airport. For the unnecessary delays I had to deal with, i should had received more credit. This was an utterly disappointing travel experience."
Pros: "The snack selection is excellent"
Cons: "No complaints"
Cons: "Crew wasn't helpful and attentive, boarding staff in Toronto were blatantly rude to me, I watched as my luggage got handled aggressively, the plane was dirty with old food crumbs and such, my flight to Windsor got cancelled and accomadations were not met sufficiently."
Pros: "The smiling and helpful crew members"
Cons: "The seats were uncomfortable and the tv didn't work well"
Cons: "poor boarding late departure late arrival bad food"
Cons: "No end to delays."
Pros: "The food was good, staff was pleasant"
Cons: "Flight boarded late, left an hour late with no explanation, causing us to miss our connecting flight in Toronto. They did switch our boarding passes to a later flight, but only 1 of 3 pieces of luggage arrived in chicago (as did also to 4 other families on our flight) it took 2 more days until we received them."
Cons: "Same as above. Flight delayed by 45 minutes. No explanation given as to why... no inclement weather or other issues that day."
This is the Air Canada."
Pros: "A very pleasant 9-hour flight. Plenty of room and good entertainment."
Cons: "The staff is always hit or miss"
Pros: "Direct flight at convenient hours"
Cons: "Limited good entertainment Crew was not very friendly on that flight Service was minimal"
Pros: "Some of the cabin crew were very nice and friendly."
Cons: "It is the first international flight that do not have any television screens, music stations or any entertainment on board. Alcoholic beverages are not free! We sat in seats that cannot recline - for the whole flight from Barcelona to Toronto. Cabin crew did not keep the cabin clean. Although we flew Air Canada from Barcelona to Toronto and have not left the inside of the airport, we had to go through customs again and almost missed our flight to Atlanta due to that. Airport officials were rude; some of the crew members treated us with disrespect and not approachable. It is the worst international flight ever - even worse than some third world carriers that I used before."
Cons: "Not everyone travels with a portable computer. Upgrade your fleet to provide free in flight entertainment that you don't have to download an app for. Who wants to watch a movie on their tiny smart-phone screen? I'm not a five-year-old."
Pros: "The crew and staff were at all times open to help, with a pleasant surprise to see all of them smile at all times."
Pros: "politeness and helpfulness of crew"
Cons: "boarding was very slow--people went to the gate unprepared -eg boarding passes misplaced and were not asked to step aside"
Cons: "My one checked bag did not arrive with me. Not sure where the delay was."
Pros: "Comfort of seats and spaciousness of the plane"
Cons: "Agent off loaded me and only me from return flight with zero reason. Second flight I was put on was delayed 2 hours. Sat for 5 hours in the airport for a 1 hour domestic flight. Customer service was terrible. Emailed Air Canada 4 days ago and have yet to recover any response."
Pros: "Very attentive crew, nice to have food on real china, very nice meal, very comfortable seats"
Cons: "Early impressions of good food were ruined by a dreadful "chicken" sandwich wrapped in cling film. What a terrible last impression. Unfortunately our flight was delayed 85 minutes. A pity that the apology never includes an explanation."
Pros: "Extra leg room even though I had to pay extra for it."
Cons: "Long wait at the Claims Dept. because my luggage was broken."
Pros: "Crew were very nice and efficient."
Cons: "Flight was delayed so badly that I missed my connection to Paris and arrived a day late, which was NOT nice."
Pros: "New interior felt clean and the new entertainment system felt responsive with a large amount of movies and shows to view"
Cons: "seats were very hard with reduced legroom after you recline. Lavatories were far and few. Food was mediocre with 3 meals, I had to ask for extras."
Pros: "Crew was moderately attentive"
Cons: "Boarding at the Toronto airport was an absolute mess. One of the "gentlemen" scanning tickets was moderately rude to people waiting to board. Which I mean, I get it, it's a rough job, but dude. I don't wanna be here any more than you do. Stow the attitude and scan the ticket. The food was eh, but that's all airline food. There isn't much space between seats so you're bumping elbows most of the ride, and during a 13 hour flight, that gets old real quick."
Pros: "The cabin attendents were excellent. They were courteous, patient, friendly, helpful, professional. When we were waiting for take off for two hours, they did everything they could to make the situation less awful. I would travel Air Canada again just because of the cabin attendants."
Cons: "I can't say I enjoyed waiting on the tarmac for two hours because of what reportedly turns out to have been a data entry mistake, and I would have liked different movies in the onboard entertainment selection."
Pros: "We really appreciated their attentiveness towards my mother who needed wheelchair assistance. We were both very impressed with the flight, crew, even the luggage was out in minutes after our arrival at the baggage claim. Thank you for your professionalism!"
Cons: "We upgraded to the bulk-head seats for the long 12-hour flight. The seat I had (second from the aisle) had the bolted framework (where the computer screen tucked into) sticking out. Since I'm short, this really interfered with my left leg room. On a normal flight, this probably wouldn't have even mattered, but since it was a 12-hour+ flight, and I paid an extra $120 to upgrade to that seat, it was a little disappointing. But, again, a small complaint to the great service we received."
Cons: "Was delayed so long I almost missed my connecting flight."
Pros: "We had a pretty uneventful flight from Tampa to Toronto using Air Canada. That is a good thing. The airline offers complementary juices and drinks of the nonalcoholic variety. No complaints."
Pros: "friendly staff, not a full flight which was nice to stretch out"
Cons: "the food was not great, would have been nice for TV to have hockey championships game available to watch- another airline had this option on a flight during a Steeler game and it was nice."
Pros: "Comfortable seats with great entertainment options. The flight attendants were especially wonderful. They were always smiling and good conversationalists."
Cons: "Boarding was delayed and there wasn't really any organization. A flight to Beijing was boarding at the same time at the gate right next to ours and passengers were getting mixed up, causing longer boarding. Some better signage or direction from staff would have been appreciated."
Pros: "Great female flight attendant. So sweet."
Cons: "I watched the Big Short, which kept shorting. I had to stop the video about 15 times to get to the end. And one slice of cake is not adequate breakfast."
Cons: "The flight was late"
