Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "Air Canada is consistently a great overall experience."
Cons: "The food is terrible. It's the worst of any airline I've ever taken."
Cons: "Too many pasengers had carryons. Lots of confusion on the plane for storage"
Pros: "Crew was friendly"
Cons: "Not being 3.5 hours late"
Pros: "I liked that they served three meals - one hot lunch, one sandwich, and one breakfast. Also that they frequently came through with water refills. Very good entertainment system, although it was off for rebooting for about the first 30 minutes in the air. French red wine blend was excellent. They seem to always have French wines."
Cons: "Attendants restocked the bathrooms, but didn't seem to clean them much (sticky floors - yuk). Wish they had some English newspapers on board to read. The food was only fair."
Pros: "on time"
Cons: "Connections to US destinations now require your checked in baggage to be processed before you can proceed to your connecting flights. The real problem is that this is no sign or communications describing this. Everyone is simply stopped in the corridor and told that they cannot proceed farther until their name comes up green on a monitor. Unfortunately the monitor switches displays so frequently that it is almost impossible to read. In addition to that it seems names do not always appear on the monitor unless you get your boarding pass scanned a the desk (this is not communicated to you unless you ask why your name is not on the monitor at all). People late for connecting flights (because of inbound flight delays) are required to wait without explanation sometimes needlessly if they don't have a checked bag. A nightmare if you're trying to make your connection. In addition once you've cleared that hurdle you need to go through security again (something we were unprepared for since we were already in the secure area. You then proceed to customs and then your connecting flight (if you haven't already missed it by then). Allow lots of time to get to your connecting flight, and ask to get you boarding pass scanned at that mysterious "checked bag" stop in the corridor."
Pros: "Nothing much"
Cons: "If you happen to be unfortunate enough to sit in the back half of economy you are constantly at risk of having limited choice of food. My wife has Celiac and all she can often eat are the apples, cheese plates. You CONSTANTLY run out of this. Please have the crew strart service in the back half of the plane 50% of the time! Or stock more food!"
Pros: "The staff were very friendly and courteous. It was comfortable for a 12 hour journey in a plane. What a difference from their regional staff and service."
Cons: "The food was of course something to be desired."
Pros: "Everything was fine - crew was attentive, punctual in serving and genuinely kind! One flight attendant (lady) gave me a compliment and even acknowledged me while walking through the airport! The plane was very clean!"
Cons: "Seating: there were numerous empty seats in the middle section of the plane but passengers were crammed in the outer seats by windows. A kind, gentleman passenger who helped me put my carry-on up in compartment let me know I was able to sit in the middle section!"
Cons: "They could not get my luggage through to the next flight to Chicago. I could not board because of that reason, and I had to fly to Denver then fly back Chicago."
Cons: "No regard to passengers schedules I was supposed to be home 4 hrs ago. Still waiting for the flight home. Family informed me that the weather is great back home. So not an excuse!"
Pros: "The AC in-flight staff are always very nice. It was a pleasant flight"
Pros: "Seats were fairly comfortable. Crew on flight from Toronto to San Jose were friendly. Crew on home flight very aloof."
Cons: "Did not know you should pre book food. They ran out. Very frustrating. Said they had breakfast food and snacks. All that was left by the time they got to our seats were chips and nuts. And they didn’t seem to care. Entertainment worked better on way back. Could not get it going on way there, even with crew assistance. Line ups for check in in San Jose were crazy. Over 40 minutes."
Pros: "The plane was quite new, and that's pretty much it."
Cons: "The food is unsuitable for human consumption and so as some of the crew were unsuitable for the position."
Pros: "On-line check-in was available. The process in Taipei to board the flight was good."
Cons: "The attendant’s name is Karen. She first caught my attention was the way she talked to the passengers. She was like a parent or a teacher telling her kids to share but not solving their problem over the head bin. Then before we were landing, the passenger next to me asked for her help to put her bag into the head bin because she’s not tall enough. Karen said she’s doing security check and never came back. I managed to help my neighbor passenger before landing and was very impressed to this flight attendant."
Cons: "smaller aircraft with very limited overhead bag storage. Constantly have to announce volunteers for bag check in. Happen both ways. Atl to Toronto and Toronto to Atl."
Pros: "Cadence of service. Amazing plane."
Cons: "No free drinks"
Cons: "I ordered vegetarian food, but not shown on list ."
Pros: "The fly attendants were very nice. The plane is old. The overhead storage is so small that it was hard to fit in carry on luggage's."
Pros: "There were no issues on this flight. My screen worked and the flight was ok."
Cons: "No room. Cramped, impossible to sleep on an overseas flight"
Pros: "My group of five arrived to the airport late (one hour before the flight took off), but the crew worked together to quickly process all of us and get us through to ensure that we didn't miss our flight. We really appreciated it!"
Pros: "I thought the crew was nice, and I was glad to have an easy flight."
Cons: "I thought it was a bit odd to not be given a seat assignment until after zones 1, 2, and 3 had been boarded. It seemed like the other passengers and myself who needed assignments had been forgotten about."
Cons: "Crew was rude to me."
Pros: "Friendly punctual"
Cons: "Seats are way too close! No leg room!"
Cons: "We were told our flight was delayed due to weather, and then due to mechanics. The weather was fine in both new york and toronto those days, and other toronto flights left on time. we ended up being delayed 6 hours in the airport, and other flights still went out ahead of us. furthermore, because our flight was delayed, they didn't seem to prepare for the new departure time, and we were held up for almost an hour on the runway before being able to take off, and almost 30 minutes on the runway once we landed too. better planning and customer service needs to be required in these situations."
Pros: "Flights attendants were very attentive and helpful on flight."
Cons: "Entertainment system was quite outdated and not user friendly, but it was nice to have it offered."
Pros: "Overall service & friendliness"
Pros: "Of the five planes we were on, all but one had comfortable seating (I'm 6'1" tall)"
Cons: "The lady helping us through the Toronto airport between flights made my wife cry. We had to stop to go to the restroom on the way to our gate, and the lady complained when I waited to go in after my wife came out. I told her I was going to do that, but she was apparently pre-occupied when I told her, because she was looking right at me when I said it. I then told her that I had let her know that was my plan, but she denied it, then told my wife she was just one of a hundred people. This left my wife in tears. This was a stain on an otherwise good flying experience, but it' tarnished the whole."
Pros: "Thanks for keeping us posted on the updates"
Pros: "Crew was very nice and helpful."
Cons: "Didn't like how we had access to wifi but only to use the air Canada app and not for our personal apps."
Pros: "Compensation for my issues"
Cons: "Forced from flight requiring a 4 am wake up for a flight to Vancouver where that flight was delayed. Then they lost my bag. Missed a day of work and had pay for an extra day of dog sitting."
Pros: "seats felt like they were bare to the metal"
Cons: "Pleasant a/c employees"
Pros: "The entertainment system"
Cons: "No food!!"
Cons: "I didn't like the fact that because the flight from Bradley to Toronto was late I almost missed my Tokyo flight.. It would not have been such a big deal if I wasn't going all the way to-Tokyo. And had to go through customs. The commuter plane was delayed getting to Bradley. I got to Toronto, and again we had to wait on the tarmac. They knew we were coming and were late as it was. Canadian air also knew I had to catch a flight to Tokyo. I thought my connection times were to close and I was right. No one told me that I had to go through international customs. So, I was in the wrong place. When I made that discovery I literally ran to customs and asked to cut in line. Again I ran to get to the gate. They were boarding when I arrived. Why I say did you put me through all that when it was avoidable? Then on the way back after a 14 hour flight I had a 6 hour delay to get back to Hartford. Why was that I ask? The same thing happened last year. And you didn t fix it yet? Nightmare. And lets not even talk about the food on the plane. I make sure I eat before the flight if I have time.In this case there was no time. I also had to change flight dates. I was on the phone for 1.5 hours on hold. Only to be told that I was calling the wrong place. So, that's my Air Canada experience. Some sort of cash or check rebate should be in order. Not a voucher to fly with them again."
Cons: "The boarding gate for small aircraft is very far away from the terminal. There was not enough seating for all those waiting for flights"
Pros: "Very easy flight, attendants were helpful and nice. No delays!"
Pros: "Wheel chair request on arrival in Toronto was very poorly implemented resulting in two long delays"
Cons: "If Air Canada can't get these basics right it will be difficult to be competitive with Porter Air"
Pros: "Yes, I like it"
Cons: "We could not book for large group, so we have to separate"
Cons: "I never received an e-mail to check in, and by the time I remembered (morning of), this resulted in me not having a seat assigned on my ticket. This caused a lot of needless stress, though to Air Canada's credit, they got all those waiting for a seat assignment on board. On my return trip, I did receive an e-mail - luckily, as the flight was overbooked again."
Cons: "The entertainment was non-existent unless you had an Apple device or paid the $10 to rent one for an hour or so. Really disappointing considering other Air Canada flights."
Pros: "Crew helpful friendly."
Cons: "Delayed flight. Kept switching gates ~~frustrating."
Pros: "Smiley and kind crew. Smooth take off and landing in both ways. Clean and organized craft. Being on time. Could not be better. Thank you Air Canada"
Cons: "I am disappointed that all air lines cut the meals"
Pros: "the flight actually went"
Cons: "our gate was switched and then there were no updates until after the original boarding time passed"
Pros: "Friendly crew Newer airplane (787) On time"
Pros: "flight was smooth and on time."
Cons: "Maple Leaf Lounge at Pearson airport was shabby. We expected a bit more than soup and gherkins, but that's all that was available, except for some dry nacho chips. No electrical outlets. Indifferent staff. Shame on Air Canada! We have visited airport lounges all over the world and this was by far the worst!"
Pros: "Staff on air canada flights are always pleasant. Movies make the flight go by quickly - good selection."
Cons: "The flight was delayed for reasons that were not communicated to the waiting passengers. The plane was there and seemed ready to go. Perhaps they were fueling up, unsure. Those around me were getting restless as many had connecting flights that were being impacted. Perhaps if updates were given as to why the delay was taking place, it would have settled some of the passengers."
