FAQs - booking Germany flights

  • If I want to explore all of Germany, what is a good central location to fly into?

Frankfurt is not only roughly centrally located in Germany, but an airline ticket to Frankfurt Airport (FRA) is often one of the most affordable airline tickets you can find from Toronto to Germany. Lufthansa, Icelandair, Air Canada, Aer Lingus, and KLM offer affordable direct or one-stop flights from Toronto to Frankfurt.

  • Can I fly non-stop from Toronto to Berlin?

To experience Octoberfest celebrations and beer halls, and to see a glockenspiel show and buildings and museums hundreds of years old, consider flying into Munich, the capital of Bavaria in southeast Germany. Lufthansa, Air Canada, Aer Lingus, and Icelandair are among the airlines that offer cheap tickets from Toronto to Munich. These flights tend to be direct or have one stop in cities such as Amsterdam, Dublin, or Reykjavik.

  • What documentation do I need in order to fly to Germany?

Canadian citizens with a regular Canadian passport must ensure that the passport is valid for a minimum of 3 months after the date you propose to leave the Schengen area. Top tips for finding cheap flights to Germany

  • Morning departure is around 5% cheaper than an evening flight, on average*.
  • The Hamburg Airport (HAM), located in Hamburg, is an ideal destination if you want to fly from Toronto to northern Germany. You can often find cheap tickets for flights that have just one stop. For example, Aer Lingus has one stop in Dublin, and Lufthansa and Air Canada offer affordable flights with one stop in either Frankfurt or Munich.
  • If you wish to visit the Rhine, consider flying in to the Dusseldorf International Airport (DUS). Dusseldorf is built on either side of the Rhine, with its old town on the east bank. You can find flights from Toronto to DUS on airlines such as Air France, Aer Lingus, Lufthansa, and Air Canada, with one stop in Paris, Dublin, or Munich.
  • Cheap airline tickets from Toronto to Germany booked through KAYAK will most often depart from the Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), Toronto's largest and busiest airport. Some cheap flights might also depart from the smaller Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ), located on the Toronto Islands in Lake Ontario.
  • If you would like to spend the night before your transatlantic trip to Germany as close to the airport as possible, consider choosing a ticket that departs from Toronto Pearson (YYZ). At Toronto Pearson, the Sheraton Gateway Hotel is adjacent to Terminal 3 and connected by a walkway. The Sheraton gateway offers many amenities and services to make your stay comfortable and convenient.
  • If you are flying to Germany with your whole family, each Toronto Airport has its benefits. Billy Bishop (YTZ) is small and can therefore be easier to navigate when a number of people are travelling as a unit. Toronto Pearson (YYZ) offers several facilities for families, including family washrooms, Mamava nursing units, an indoor playgrounds for kids near the boarding gates.

Flyplay is the only way I travel to Europe. Had a 15 hr layover in Iceland. Normally this would suck, but I regret a car and saw the black sand beaches, several waterfalls and sky lagoon. And finished with lamb at cafe Loki.

did not get the seats we had specially paid for

This is a no frills airline. You cant expect much for the price. Low cost flight, clean, nice staff. That's all I need for the price. If you want more, book with another airline and pay more. For Europe trips, PLAY is the ONLY airline I use

Misleading instructions for check in. Although I did virtual check in and was instructed to head to security, once I was at security, they told me to go back to Play ticket counter and get paper tickets. Also, beware that Play doesn’t participate in TSA PreCheck. I didn’t know that, despite entering PreCheck info when I purchased the tickets. I wasted time in the TSA PreCheck line as well. So we had two setbacks at check in.

It's a budget airline, so forewarned is forearmed. Yes, you pay for everything like carry-on, checked baggage, seat selection, but that's becoming the case with major airlines. Bringing your own snacks and entertainment on board is highly recommended. It's no frills, but the crew, the plane and the flight itself was great. If you want pampering go for a larger airline. If you just want to get from A to B in comfort and safety, Play is a great choice.

It is a low cost airline. Staff are courteous. There is no entertainment. Food is purchased.

Upon boarding, the people at the gate were extremely rude, there were no outlets on a 6 hour international flight, there was no entertainment, all food and drink was purchase only (even snacks), and my seat reclining function was fully broken. The only redeeming quality was the flight attendants were extremely nice. This was by far the worst flight I have ever been on in my entire life

I don’t know how international flights can’t have media screens to keep people entertained for the long flight. Ugh.

Typical experience for budget airline. Boarding from KEF required bus transit from the gate to plane, so if you had "priority boarding" it was useless as it was simply a free-for-all when getting off the bus. But still no issues with getting our luggage into overhead bin so not really a problem.

Was very apprehensive about flying Play, but the flight was fine. Nothing special, nothing horrible. Fair price to get from New York to Iceland.

I was pleasantly surprised - it has been awhile since I traveled with them - other than being delayed leaving Malaga everything ran very smoothly- yes I would travel with aer Lingus again and yes I would recommended

I loved how they arrange boarding (starting with people seated in back and moving to the front). Flight crew was very polite and welcoming. Seating was ok, I felt like there was enough leg space however it is noticeable when the passenger in front of you sets their seat back.

Nice to be on a flight that wasn't fully booked so there were only two of us in the three seat row.

Delayed due to weather... fine. But then the board us. Rows 15 and back had to go down the stairs and back up the back stair entrance to the plane. No assistance offered. Then they inform us that we are delayed for paperwork for an hour. So why did we board? Then, about 45min later they inform us that it'll be another 60-90mins. Really? No wifi, no seat entertainment, no drink or snacks offered. And we were not allowed to deboard.

Very good need to offer better choice of food for business

Both flights were delayed due to maintenance issues. Because they where late boarding all four of our bags where left behind on our last connecting flight.

Aer Lingus interior is not the cleanest. I've seen crumbs on the seat and wrappers on the floor when I boarded

Flightl was good and on time. Only problem was the quality of the air in the cabin, didn’t appear to be clearing the air circulation.

The transatlantic flight was wonderful. The regional reminded me of jet blue. Crazy and packed. Not enough overhead space and tough on elderly.

They lost my baggage on my connecting flight and we’re an hour late so I nearly missed it

The Carry-on luggage that approved by TSA and all other airlines,- always an issue with Air Canada. This is inappropriate as my carry on suitcase meets the requirements however it always asked to check in on AC flight on the gate. Yes I have it for free, but it takes extra time to pick up on the carousel. Apparently it fit the overhead space, so why AC has this issue all the time?

Too many notifications. Non of which were useful. 4 hours before traveling we discovered that we needed a transit visa. That's useful information. Air Canada should flag and keep flagging that up. Then the useless too much information had us go to Paris not Brussels. Chaos involving the customer. We will try never to use AC again.

The terminal this flight boarded from was so far away, poorly temperature controlled, and generally uncomfortable. The plane was small but the flight was short, so it wasn't so bad.

My flight was canceled and next one was 1 hour later. The gate was changed 3 times.

We did not have seat assigned until almost the very end of boarding and my husband and I did not sit together I don’t know why even though we bought tickets 3 months in advance and checked in very early. We were not standby and we were treated as we had stand by tickets. I will never fly Air Canada again.

Terrible 3-4-3 seat configuration, I thankfully was able to choose a seat at the back where it narrowed to 2-4-2 for some relief though seats were still narrow. Staff did not manage the boarding lines at all either, was total chaos.

Seriously need to improve the time schedule and the plans

Great TV, easy boarding, wonderful ground crew and flight crew.

It was late leaving but made up time in the air.

Rude Customer Service at checkin, 90 minute limit in flight check in is too strict. I was in line for 30 minutes because of slow/insufficient workers. Somewhere I got to the the counter of course the employee warned me about the 90 minutes. People were cutting the lines. No one did anything.

All 4 flights were late. Plus delays for cleaning planes . On return baggage was not even on the plane arrived next day not received until two days later . Very poor experience.

It would have been better if the flight hadn't been an hour late, causing us to miss our connection. Even without the delay, Lufthansa do not allow adequate time for passport control and getting yourself to the departure gate.

Regular 3 across coach seats in “business” just empty middle seat

Staff was rude in business class. Luggage was damaged and nothing was done about it airlines.

Boston Logan is a crummy airport - signage is terrible or lacking in areas. Boarding seemed to be a free for all and with all the different airlines speaking, you couldn't tell who was supposed to be where and when. Plain and simple, airlines should board from the back of the plane to the front. Also someone was sitting in my seat. By the time that was figured out, I had to place my overhead behind me which made de-planing more difficult. Logan is not Lufthansa's fault so that is not on them, Boarding is on them! Still, overall it was a Good Experience flying with Lufthansa. This is not my first flight with them...

Overall, the flight was comfortable without any serious issues. Transit through Frankfurt airport was a little confusing, but not too difficult if you follow the signs

Staff disappeared after dinner service until breakfast, no help with beds, no help running to our gate to catch connection cause flight was late, our luggage didn’t make it, took over 24 hours to get luggage to hotel, no compensation!!

Everything was good except food. I believe there is room for improvement

At Muchin the service woman for Lufthansa at the Airport was really horrible.

Houston to Porto flight delayed landing made us miss our connection. Tried to get on standby for the next flight and even though the lady knew we wouldn’t be able to get on it and she sent us down there. We sat there three hours and then we’re told there’s no way you’re getting on this flight. So we had to go to customer service and ended up having to spend the night in Frankfurt and missed a whole day of our vacation in Porto

Boarding was delayed and a bit hectic. The crew was super nice.

Brand new airplane Airbus 330. Great crew. The staff on the ground is always a bit mediocre at Condor.

Some pretty unfriendly check in crew members. This is a no frills airline.

Seat was the worst I ever had in an airplane

I will definitely recommend your service. This is my first experience with Condor and so far it was great!

A flight attendant placed a meal on my tray. I was in 44E. The passenger who was in 44G had gone to the bathroom. I ate the meal. When the passenger in 44G asked where his meal was the flight attendant put the blame on me. She claimed another attendant put the meal on my tray. She then claimed when she gave me the meal she asked me if I had ordered a special meal. She did not Worst experience I have ever had with a crew member.

Entertainment screen was not functioning, there was no effort made by flight attendants to take care of the problem. All I could do was looking at customs forms and watch landing videos for 10 hrs 😁 Bruno Volk

I did not get a flight from JFK to Portland nonexistent Condor flight 308 does not exist and JetBlue knew nothing and someone changed my ticket and eliminated that leg of the flight. I would love to know who’s going to pay for my $750 car rental.

My return flight from JFK to Portland Maine disappeared and it cost me $750 to rent a car and drive home from New York. I don’t even know where to start with who screwed up or what condor blaming the ticket sales or JetBlue JetBlue knows nothing. Everyone giving me the runaround. Gotta say the service all-around sucked.

The flight was fine. We were served a meal and a snack. Boarding was fine.
