I pre ordered a car via a website I use for work. I work for Delta Air Lines and am supposed to get a discount. When I clicked that I wanted to return it to a different location, it wouldn’t let me pick a different location. The girl at the front desk said she was not able to switch it herself, that I had to modify it myself. I could not and decided to cancel it. I found on Kayak.com that it let me do the option of dropping the car off at a different location, so I booked it. I got charged $20 more than what I had originally wanted to book. That was disappointing. Alamo will not be my first choice from here on out.

Staff was helpful and the drop off was VERY quick and easy.

Cons:

Computers were down when picking up my rental, so there was a long line and long wait to complete the paperwork. Then, after the paperwork was completed, they had to radio someone to bring up our rental (a minivan) and we waited more than 20 minutes for someone to bring it. I went back to the counter and asked if the van was somewhere we could walk to and pick it up and they radioed again. Then I watched as a porter went to a minivan that was a short walk (maybe 100 yards away) and drive the car to the front of the building.

The lady at the Detroit airport pickup office was incredible! She was kind, efficient, and extremely helpful. There was an issue with the first vehicle I picked up. The car smelled like someone had been smoking in the vehicle. That was not acceptable for a week rental. When I went back to the counter and pointed out this problem the person helping me was apologetic and immediately arranged for another vehicle. I would hire this person to work in my office.

Due to Covid, we had to cancel our trip, and this our reservation. Delta refunded all of our money back. Thrifty did not, and blamed it on Kayak. I will now use neither.

2019 Camry was a great car.

Cons:

$13/day to add a spouse as a driver is ridiculous. Every other car rental company that I’ve used does this for free. Will not be using Thrifty in the future on this basis.

At the last minute, when I went to pick up the car, I was an 1-2 hour early. The Hertz representative charged me extra money for picking up my car early, which I think is ridiculous. You are allowed to pick up cars as early as previous nite with no charges in cities where office closes at 5 pm., but Hertz charged me for 2 hours extra. Ridiculous!

I Was supposed to show up at 8pm, but got an earlier flight to keep my options open because I know there was a car shortage. Customer support on the phone said they couldn’t guarantee any thing earlier. I was expecting to sit at the Detroit airport for four hours. The guy behind the desk was Ramone, and he was professional, friendly, and made absolutely certain I got on the road almost as early as I could make it. Ramone didn’t just saved my bacon, but he helped me get to have a full Thanksgiving with a girl I’m in love with, all with a smile on his face. Please give him a raise or someone is going to hire him out from under you. I’ve usually rented from enterprise, but I’m going with y’all first from now on just because of that guy. Thanks! Y’all are the best!

Service by staff at pick-up and drop off was great. The vehicle was not really what we had expected and I did have to take a lot of photographs due to damage and scratches on the vehicle upon pick-up.

Pros:

Staff was friendly and helpful. Upgraded the vehicle (with a charge) to make our trip the best it could be. Vehicle was brand new (3 miles on it when I drove it off the lot), clean, and had a full tank of gas.

Cons:

The rental counter was short staffed (1 person working the main counter, 1 person working the "Gold" counter) with several people standing in line. I arrived at 3:05 for a 3:00 pick-up and didn't get out the door until almost 4. Service was great, once I got to an agent.

Waited 2 hours in line during check in in order to get a car. Slowest system I’ve ever seen for car pick up. Can’t believe in 2024 this isn’t a kiosk or there isn’t a more efficient way to check in. I’m all for face to face business but in this case 2 people to check in 20+ people in 2 hours detracts from the customer experience.

Well, after making me wait in the 10° weather for over half an hour these people refused to rent a car to me because my ID had a piece of tape on it. I literally had to walk over a mile in the snow and got sick because of this. The manager was one of the rudest people I’ve ever dealt with in my life. Stay away from this place and rent from anywhere in the world but this place.

Your website had a picture of a convertible which is what we wanted. Of course there were none but the people from National said that this is a trick by Kyak to deceive their customers. We were really wanting that car and got screwed. Thanks for the LIE

The car was great and drop off was quick and easy.

Cons:

The pickup was terrible. Attendant in the lot just stared right through me as I asked a question 3 times and then yelled into his radio. Eventually I gave up and figured it out myself. He never acknowledged that I was even standing there. Then i walked all the way across the lot to the building and the clerk inside asked a bunch of questions about insurance even though I purchased it when I booked the car. I didn't know it was third party but he acted like it was no good. Then told me to go out by the fence to get a truck. The only vehicles by the fence were needing maintenance. Someone drove by and told me to go back in and have him call for one. So I did. Waited 15 more minutes and the lady from Alamo came to ask if I was waiting for a truck and that it had been parked on the other side.

I was able to choose the exact car I wanted and was even able to reserve a cooler and boogie board to use for the week. The car was in like-new condition. The free shuttle was convenient, fast and the drivers were nice. The location was a little bit further from the airport, but it wasn't a problem.

It was the first time we rented via Turo, so I don't have a good base reference to compare in general, and can only compare to car rental experiences with commercial fleets (like Budget or Enterprise). In general it was okay -- we made it to where we were going and back, with no major issues. It's doable. However, there were some "surprises" where things didn't quite got as we expected: * We made rental reservation with expectation that we're picking up at the airport. When we got there, it turned out that the car is not at the airport, and the address given to us turned out to be what seemed to be Portland's airport Fire Rescue Tower (where, obviously, we can't even walk to or be at). We called the owner, and turned out that the car is at some house that's "not far" from the airport, and gave us new address. So additional expense of taking Uber/Lyft to get to the car (and apparently that address exists in two neighboring towns, and somehow Uber/Lyft took us first to the wrong one, so we had to take another ride, but that's not a Turo issue, just more expense as a consequence of car not being at the airport as promised). * When we got there, we called the owner to get the keys: "-- Keys are under front door's floormat. -- Nope, they're not there. -- Then try mailbox? -- Yes, they're there." The owner wasn't there, which is okay to do this all remote, but would be nicer if owner was in general "on top of things" such as where the car is and where it is expected to be picked up, where exactly are its keys, etc. * Then owner requested that prior to return we take the car to be washed and cleaned inside and out. We neither planned on looking for car detailing places in Portland, nor for time that it would take away from sightseeing, nor for extra substantial expense it would be. We pushed back and the owner backed off saying that he'll let it go due to confusion with pickup location (and apparently he didn't send some email that he was supposed to send, or something along those lines). * And while the car wasn't too dirty, it wasn't clean to begin with (which made detailing request that more amusingly odd). Crumbs on floor and seats and luggage compartment. Worst part was that windshield was dirty on the inside that was minor unpleasant at daytime, but as driving progressed into night time, it was quite significant as it was blurring lights and affected visibility substantially. * We also added additional driver thru Turo and let the owner know. The owner requested that we send him picture of drivers license directly to him. We refused (as it didn't seem right, given that Turo is the one that manages that aspect) and he backed off. * Of course, additional expense of Uber/Lyft after return drop-off as we weren't dropping it off at the airport as originally planned. So all in all we probably spent additional $50-60 in Uber/Lyft for getting to and from cars location instead of it being in the airport, and lost about 3+ hours for dealing with additional unplanned travel. The rest was okay. Car drove fine and didn't give any problems.
