#8 off-the-beaten-path destination

Northwest Territories

You’re going to love Yellowknife

Summer brings 20 hours of sunlight to Yellowknife – which means plenty of hours in the day to enjoy all the outdoor activities on offer. Relax in the sand and catch some sun by Long Lake (temperatures can reach 30 degrees!), rent kayaks and paddle the Back Bay, or go sailing on Great Slave Lake (also perfect for fishing).

Hacker tip

Yellowknife is known as a prime spot for viewing the northern lights twice a year – winter and autumn. But the autumn season actually starts in mid-August (and runs until early October). Camping is a great way to position yourself under the night sky during the limited hours of darkness.
