• Top car rental origins with the greatest number of searches were considered as the origin destinations. Road trip destinations curated by KAYAK travel experts from each of the top 10 rental car origins to destinations no more than 4 hours driving distance away.
• Median car rental rate: Based on search dates 12/01/2019 – 05/31/2020 for travel dates 06/01/2020 – 10/31/2020.
• Median Hotel Rate Histogram: Based on search dates 12/01/2019 – 05/31/2020 for travel dates 06/01/2020 – 10/31/2020.

Top 10 off-the-beaten-path destinations

• Destinations considered had the highest number of hotels and lowest number of hotel searches with the constraint of the top 500 most searched hotel destinations.
• Median Domestic Airfare: Based on search dates 12/01/2019 – 05/31/2020 for travel dates 06/01/2020 – 10/31/2020.
