Alamo presented a can do attitude from beginning to end. The car was spectacular and we had a ball driving the cobalt blue Mustang Convertible around Palo Alto, up and down Highway 1, 3 days in Carmel and spin down to Big Sur. I had wanted to rent a convertible for years, and finally did it! Thanks Alamo, check in specialist Jenny, and the whole Alamo team.Reviewed 10 Oct. 2023

Cons:I was able to reserve online, but the location I reserved at was closed with no signs indicating where I should go. I asked a parking lot attendant nearby and he directed me Towards another car rental lot nearby for a different company. There were no signs outside that the new place was where I could get my car, but it was.Reviewed 4 Jul. 2020

Pros:I was offered an upgrade, which I accepted. Unfortunately, the upgrade changed my drop off location. My original reservation was cancelled. It cost me $140 extra for the very same vehicle.Cons:When I dropped off the vehicle, there was a long line. The employee took my keys and said he would mail a receipt. I still have not received one.Reviewed 23 Jun. 2020

Top tips for renting a car from Alamo in San Francisco

  • The best type of Alamo car rental in San Francisco depends on your plans. If you're staying within the city, compact or hybrid cars are practical for navigating narrow streets and for fuel efficiency. For family trips or exploring nearby areas, an SUV or minivan offers more space and comfort. Given San Francisco's steep hills and variable weather, choosing a vehicle with good traction and strong brakes can be essential for a safe and smooth driving experience.
  • By enrolling in the Alamo Insiders program you can unlock exclusive discounts and perks. Members receive a 5% discount on standard rates, can benefit from expedited check-in, and have access to exclusive promotions. This complimentary program streamlines the rental process, making it particularly valuable if you’re a frequent traveler looking to save on car rentals. It offers an excellent opportunity to optimize your Alamo rental experience by enjoying rewards and cost savings.
  • Alamo offers convenient one-way rental options, allowing you to pick up your vehicle at one location and return it to another. This flexibility is perfect if you’re planning road trips or need transportation to a specific destination without the hassle of returning to the original rental location. Alamo's one-way rentals give you more freedom in your travel itinerary, making it easier to explore different cities or regions. Availability and fees may vary by location and rental terms.
  • For added peace of mind during your rental, consider Alamo's Roadside Plus (RSP) program for an extra fee. With RSP, you get 24/7 roadside assistance, including flat tire service, lockout assistance, jump starts, and up to 3 gallons of fuel delivery (if you run out of gas). This service is available in the United States and Canada. If you don't opt for RSP, roadside assistance remains accessible, but standard charges will apply. RSP offers a cost-effective way to ensure a worry-free rental experience.
