Pickup & drop-off was smooth despite of rush. Fresh coffee and the espresso machine at drop off made us feel so good after a long day of driving in snow.

Cons:

The website said open 24 hours. I got to airport desk at 2:00 AM and it was closed. There was a sign with a phone number...I called and it said the number was not in service. I found another international phone number online...that also was not in service. There was no one at the airport information desk. I was only in Iceland for the day and that is why I needed to pick up the car as soon as I landed. So the car was useless to me and I never picked it up. I need a refund

Misplaced key resulted in fee that exceeded entire cost of five day rental. Payment forced under duress!

Pros:

The check in and check out process was fairly quick and simple. We got a small Toyota Yaris that took us all over Iceland, including the Westfjords and up mountains!

Cons:

Our Garmin GPS device was very out of date and in a few cases didn't even register the roads we needed on its map. It led us after several times which was frustrating.

Friendly staff and clean car

Cons:

The insurance offered by Kayak is a joke in Iceland! Wipers were falling apart , alignment was way off and suspension was shot

Cons:

I asked for Jeep and I got a Duster. It meand I looked for more reliable car. No spare wheel was in car. For winter and snow/frost - wind screen is not heated enough.

Pros:

loved the car. The duster was awesome.

Cons:

The service was horrible at pickup. The gentleman was extremely rude and tried to scam us. Fortunately at drop off, we had a different gentleman who was nicer. They didn't mention the discount chips we could have used at certain gas stations, and again, weren't helpful.

the agent did not let us know that no spare tyre inside the car, hence there is something that we can do to inflate but was not told about it, luckily we did not get a flat tyre

It was good. The kiosk at the airport was not open when we arrived. With insurance coverages, the vehicle came out to be several hundred dollars more than I expected.

Pros:

Pick up and drop off was quick and easy

Cons:

Actual cost was FAR higher than quoted and it did not state that if using debit card and not credit card that you had to prepay for a full tank of gas.

Pros:

Very easy process, staff was attentive and welcoming. Car was nice, no issues.

Cons:

My only complaint was that I feel I was upsold how 'Iceland is different from other countries so the insurance is more worthwhile here.' I came in November and other then some rain and higher winds, I really didn't think the weather was all that special. I didn't encounter any gravel roads going to the main sites along the southern coast and their certainly wasn't need for the wind and ash insurance. Now certainly these things happen, of course, and it's good to be aware, but I felt like the way everyone was talking about the weather I would be stupid not to take it, yet the changes were really not that different from my home country. So maybe I would amend the shtick on insurance to 'useful if you only drive in sunny weather' or something similar.

The staff was very friendly and got us into our car very fast. No issues with extra fees or aggressive upsells.

Cons:

The airport bus that was supposed to come every 10 minutes was very late when we dropped off our car, probably 25 minutes late.

Pros:

The cars were new and clean. The RAV4 we got had only 4,000 KMs. Well optioned with a free GPS that really didn't find any locations. For $15 per day you can rent a wifi adapter we didn't get it as my cell had internationals calling and data. Check in was pretty quick.

Cons:

The check in to get your car was painfully long. After waiting a long time for the rental car shuttle to load up with folks ~ 20 minutes we were off to the rental car drop offs. Once we arrived there we waited around another 40 minutes to get our RAV4. The car GPS couldn't find sites to see by name. I plugged them into my Google Maps and it had no issue finished where we needed to go.

Pros:

The interaction I had with Europacar staff both at pick-up and return was first rate. Both were pleasant, professional without any intent to hassle or nitpick. Or that I felt pressured to add something I did not want to add. The car was new, clean, comfortable in excellent working order. I highly commend Europacar for their excellent, professional and I might add nice staff with excellent English speaking skills.

Cons:

The cost which was not excessive by Icelandic standards but far more expensive than my home country. This of course is not a criticism of Europacar but a function of the reality of car rental/hire in Iceland. The cost to return the car at the Eastern end of Iceland doubled the cost.

Pros:

Relatively new van, ran great, and the custom shelving was quite handy, especially the pull out cutting board table. Plenty of room for 2. Friendly crew.

Cons:

It was a panel van so with the custom shelving there is zero visibility of whats behind you or in your side blind spots. Outside of the city you can get by but be prepared to have your passenger on the lookout for you. With the new law / rule you need to park at camping sites and pay the fee, so seems to defeat the point of the camper van.

Far better service than the Budget office next door (at Reykjavik/KEF), which is what we used last time. Fast, friendly, helpful, and no-nonsense. The car was in great condition, and met our needs perfectly.

Pros:

First vehicle I was given had a flat tire light on - but it was immediately replaced with a nicer vehicle when I pointed it out. Vehicle rental overall was great. On returning, there had been some minor issues (chips due to gravel roads) that I reported and this was handled very smoothly and professionally by the team.

Cons:

Since this rental was in Iceland I would have loved the option to get a larger 4x4 vehicle. However, this was not available for 7 passengers! Overall, very good though.

Pros:

The staff were very friendly and professional.

Cons:

I had expected a slightly higher quality car. The various categories/tiers made it difficult to honestly assess value. For example, we selected a "VW Golf or similar" and ended up with a Kia. I do not consider the Kia similar given we did not select the economy category.
