Canadians are feeling extra patriotic in 2026 with domestic flight interest up 12% compared to 2025. Looking ahead to summer, KAYAK data is showing a similar surge in domestic trip interest with flight searches up 11%, hotel interest up 26% and rental car interest up 23% compared to 2025.

Summer may still be a ways off, but travelers are already planning, and the early data is painting a good picture of what the season will most likely look like. Here are the biggest insights shaping summer 2026 so far:

Interest is up, prices are down.

Overall summer flight interest is up 20%, while domestic airfare is down 19% and international airfare is currently down 2% vs summer 2025.

Canadians are already finding major summer ’26 deals.

Summer airfare to Asia is down 21% at the moment, and to Europe down 10%, fueling early deals to places like Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Tokyo and Reykjavik. Even domestic hubs like Vancouver (-23%) and Calgary (-19%) are trending cheaper, signaling a more affordable summer travel season.

Canadians are trading “classics” for alternative destinations.
