The house is very old and traditional and located right next to the historic quarter of Kurashiki as well as only a 10 minute walk from the station. During the day, the hostel is transformed into a coffeeshop and they give you a free welcome drink if you're a guest. The staff were all super nice and spoke English well. Through the design of the house as well the concept of the hostel itself, a very homely atmosphere was created.
I had a somewhat noisy roommate that went in and out of the room late at night and also talked in her sleep. The walls in the house are very thin and the rooms are also not that big so I was able to hear everything that went on which made it hard to sleep. Maybe bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper.
Friendly staff, good location.
Very nice location and friendly staffs
Not much option of breakfast
Anyone could acquire a heritage house in the middle of touristic spot and run an accommodation business. Some might be skilled in building restoration techniques and able to create a new heritage building within a month. But they won't be able to imitate the hospitality spirit that this guesthouse delivers. This team of professionals who mostly play multiple roles in the business seemed happy doing their jobs, and some were exceptionally good at reading my needs and emotions before I even asked for anything. The well-kept heritage building itself provided a unique cultural experience and the staff made me feel at home. It was also quite impressive to watch how bedrooms turn into a cafe every morning. I am willing to visit Japan again just for the sake of staying at this place again!
