Dar Ben-Gacem - Tunis - Building

9.2 Excellent (216 reviews)
C$ 135+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Dar Ben-Gacem, you'll be centrally located in Tunis, within a 5-minute drive of Habib Bourguiba Avenue and Carrefour Market. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk and multilingual staff.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Markets, restaurants and touristic area nearby, but it's not too close so it's quiet. Great fresh breakfast. Nice, friendly and very helpful staff. They are passionate to share their recommendations. Pick-up at the airport was perfect, despite it was crazy hour of 3am... Next time, I'd like to order dinner in-house!
Cons: Might not suited for the people who are used to staying at the hotels and expect everything new and clean. If you are after rustic charm, you will get it. :)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked everything about this charming hotel. The location is superb. The staff were remarkable and went above and beyond our expectations to make our stay perfect. They offered to make a reservation for dinner for us and when we were ready to leave to go to dinner, they insisted on having one of the staff walk us through the Medina to the restaurant so that we would be able to find it easily. I was very impressed with the service. The restoration of the hotel has been skillfully and beautifully done. It was decorated with a wide variety of interesting antiques that gave a warm and welcoming feel. Our room was very spacious and lovely. The rooftop terrace would be a comfortable and private place to relax and good weather. The breakfast was ample and the coffee, bless them, was piping hot! That’s a rare accomplishment in Tunisia! Even the milk was very hot. I can’t say enough good things about the charm, location and service in this hotel. What a great value and a wonderful experience
Cons: It’s a minor point, but it would’ve been nice to have a television in the room
6.3 Good
Pros: A lovely Medina property, renovated a little ago with great taste. Some staff very friendly and efficient
Cons: The renovation now feels a bit tired and grubby. The hotel lacks the detailed management attention it needs to sustain its reputation. The wifi was practically non existent throughout my visit. Guests were locked out one day with no one on the premises to open the door (at about 6.00pm). The bathroom was dirty. There were dead plants in the courtyard. The airconditioning struggled (but it was a hot period). On the whole, the breakfasts were very good but on the first day rotten fruit was offered. These issues were raised with staff but there was no management presence.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely staff who speak English and have lots of good recommendations. Room was beautiful although in need of a bit of a refresh. Everything worked and was comfortable.
Cons: I think the breakfast was a bit disappointing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: it was all fabulous, very kind and helpful staff, wonderful breakfast, great location
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing breakfast! Super delicious fluffy omelettes. Staff were great and very accommodating
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything Friendly kind staff (all of them) Breakfast was more than enough to us Location n the centre and near from everything else ,not noisy area Felt like home Il stay there again again (take the suite*)
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We really loved everything. It’s a very charming boutique hotel with a lot of attention to details. Many places to relax, great view from the roof and a beautiful room, friendly staff, great location.
Cons: The breakfast could be slightly more variety; the tour described on their website doesn’t really exist as such.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location with warm and friendly staff and immaculate old building in the heart of the Medina.
Cons: Because of the thickness of the walls internet is a problem. But that means you get out in the amazing public courtyard or rooftop and mingle with people. It’s lovely.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was beautiful. In the room you felt like in a small Tunisian Palace. Breakfast was delicious. Everyone there was so nice and took very good care of us.
Cons: The shower could have more water pressure. Everything else great.

9.0 Excellent (119 reviews)
C$ 90+
Overview Reviews
Located in Le Kram, Dar El-Màa,maison d’hôtes sur la plage is by the sea, a 4-minute drive from St. Louis Cathedral and 12 minutes from French Embassy. Featured amenities include multilingual staff, a library, and microwave in a common area. Limited parking is available onsite.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The house was very nice and clean, working AC and quiet at night. At the balcony one can enjoy the view of the beach. Breakfast wad always waitung for us with croissants, yogurt, fruits and beverages. Friendly staff!
Cons: The location is great to have a sense of local culture and to go to the beach every single day. Only there are not many restaurants or shopping places around. One has to go to the main street to get a taxi. Wifi worked on and off.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in suite (as I understand only room with private bathroom) and it was really great. Plenty of space, furniture, spectacular looks, (shared) terrace. Location is great, direct train to Tunis centre (or La Marsa) is 200 m away. Public beach is sort-of maintained, busy with locals, but OK. Woman can use it in "european" swimming suit. There are lot of shops, fast foods around, but don't expect to buy beer there (christophe got two for me :-) .
Cons: Advertised WiFi is not usable in room. Yo have to move to common kitchen to use it. AC is very noisy and can't be used at night. Breakfast is really basic (bread+jam+butter+croissant). Suite is expensive. For 120 EUR/night you can get AI at 4* hotel in Hammamet, but that's price if you need to stay in Tunis at that level. Surroundings are definitly not at house's level. My wife was really not enjoying walking there at night.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice place close to the sea. Comfortable room. The maison has a nice garden and a cosy pool. Perfect location during the spring/summer season.
Cons: Nice breakfast but bit simple. Toilet outside the room
3.8 Mediocre
Cons: Booked a sea view room, on arrival tried to put me in a side room, if wanted the sea view would have to pay extra. The location with beach is poor and occasionally noisy, breakfast minimum, no housekeeping services. It was not worth £50 pn
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Wifi, cosy guesthouse, Nice staff
Cons: Location, not very good beach
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly kind family. Beautiful place.
Cons: neighbourhood is noisy and beach is always crowded n not so clean
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location and property itself are amazing. Right on the beach, and a short walk to the main road or to the light rail stop, so it's easy to get to the sights in Carthage and to Sidi Bou Said. Facilities were nice, there was a communal kitchen to use. Pool and garden were nice as well. Breakfast was good.
Cons: Check-in/arrival time seemed more flexible than it is, and the doorbell doesn't seem to work very well. The wifi didn't work well while we were there, but it appears we were subjected to unlucky timing more than any fault of the owner.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The house is beautifully decorated, the water is boiling hot, the bed is amazing, the sound of the waves as an alarm in the morning is magical, the view outside the seafaced room is just wow!
Cons: Nothing, plus i just dont understand some of the complaining guests and negative reviews written before. I think some people can always find something to complain about, its a pity for themselves :).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Christophe and Ayette are running a beautiful Bed & Breakfast, they are so kind and helpful that we felt welcomed and like home from the moment we booked (our Email contact was excellent and friendly as well). We enjoyed our room as much as the breakfast, the sea view and the pool. The beach or the train station are only a 4min walk away. We enjoyed our stay very much, thank you!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved staying at Dar El Maa. It's beautifully designed, located right on the beach and with easy access to both downtown Tunis and Sidi Bousaid/ La Marsa, its owners are welcoming and easy-going, the pool is awesome, and there's even a very cute and quiet dog.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Felt like home. They were really kind and helpful. Breakfast was very good. Breathtaking views from the room and from the terrace! About location, close to ancient monuments and Sidi Bou Said. 100% Recommendable!
Cons: Nothing.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Dar Traki is a wonderful guesthouse tucked away in a quiet corner of the medina of Tunis. The house is incredibly beautiful, with spacious, clean and comfortable rooms, a lovely courtyard and an amazing rooftop terrace. The best thing about this guesthouse is the lovely staff: Roland and Didier were so kind, hospitable and helpful - they made our stay perfect. Breakfast is delicious and it is definitely prepared with love. We felt very safe and happy in Dar Traki - we will definitely stay here again if we return to Tunis!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The professional staff, service and location
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is in old Medina, very good and beautiful. The traditional RIAD is very good with good fuinitures, plants, chirs , tables with excellent decoration. The staff are hard working and the breakfast is very yummy. The room is clean and quiet.
Cons: nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is in the middle of the Medina which gives you a LOCAL EXPERIENCE!The decoration is traditional and beautiful, rooms clean and comfy, everything feels like home! The staff is super kind and helpful, always with a smile! Bravo! I highly recommend this place!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Such lovely two brothers who took care of our every need; with fantastic crepes every morning for breakfast, and a wonderful location.
Cons: You have to pay the property with cash when you arrive (no credit card machine or EFT facilities). While they were very accommodating on receiving part-payment every day, this makes it hard to pay for business travellers.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff was very friendly, they helped us with all the questions we had. The hotel itself is set in a beautiful traditional house, which make you feel you are far away from the city. The rooms are spacious and have comfortable beds.
Cons: At night it was not always pleasant to walk through the dark alleys of the Medina. However, the main road is really near.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff were extraordinary helpful. Went way beyond the call of duty to assist with minor crises.
Cons: Room fans. Mosquito coils or repellent.
7.0 Good
Pros: Charming little guest house, great spot in the medina, and great bang for buck if you're looking for a good deal and don't care about luxury accommodations. Beds are comfortable and staff are lovely and super helpful.
Cons: The place is generally run down, could use an overall makeover (the furniture looks like it's been sitting in someone's grandmother's attic) and a few simple amenities, i.e., more electrical outlets, light switches that work and better lighting in the rooms, better quality matching towels.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was incredibly helpful and kind. The hotel was in a perfect location and was a beautiful property.
Cons: Hotel was hard to find. A sign on the main street would be helpful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I had an excellent experience at Dar traki! The staff was wonderful and extremely helpful. They assisted with everything I needed help with. They were very friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend staying at this property for your visit to Tunis!

Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely beautiful hotel right in the centre of the Medina with excellent and courteous staff. The hamman experience was so relaxing with a lovely masseuse. We also really enjoyed the breakfast, which was probably one of the best ones we had throughout our time in Tunisia. Although tucked away in the alleys of the Medina, it was worthwhile finding the beauty of the hotel comparable to exploring the Bardo Museum. Strong wifi access throughout. Highly, highly recommend!!
Cons: A little tricky to find, but there is fairly good signage to guide you.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: It is an old mansion converted into a hotel so its different from normal hotel buildings. This is the charm of this facility. You get transported back in time and get to relive the high life of those days. I really enjoyed my stay here.
Cons: Can't really think of anything that I didn't like from facilities, staff or the location perspective. For the sake of nitpicking, the pillows were a bit hard for my taste and the credit card machine didn't accept any of my cards at checkout which created some embarrassment for me but I have sufficient USD to cover the payment.
7.5 Good
Pros: I liked the location and the beautiful building.
Cons: The price is very expensive. Besides, when I went to pay upon check out, I was informed that they don’t take cards!!! Basically I had to withdraw cash from the atm (which has a maximum withdrawal limit per each transaction). So I had to do three different withdrawals from the atm (which charged me a lot of money because it’s an international withdrawal). This happened simply because the hotel couldn’t be bothered to fix their card machine. So how about the amount of money that I lost doing those transactions? Tough. No apology from the hotel, no compensation, no discount, nothing at all.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Its a palace! Great for experiencing something different. 5 minute walk from tunis main mosque and markets. Hotel very helpful with excursions.
7.5 Good
Pros: I did not eat breakfast because it was way too expensive. I once eat a salade and a couscous at the very beautiful restaurant and it was extremely good. I know every trick of the arab cuisine but had never tasted anything like this. But please dont eat there until you really have too much money. We payed 28 dinars for a starter (a salad) and in halk al wadi (La Goulette) we payed 48 dinars for 5 persons (soup, salad, fish, sidedishes, beverages). The tea and the cafe and even the citronade (a freshly made lemonade of lemon juce, suger and water - taste it!) were not so good. Its better to drink them around the corner at the souk (the market) or just getting out of the medina (the old town), two steps from the hotel!
Cons: I was shocked and very angry to hear the women at the reception tell a client he cant find any taxi in Tunis and has to take a driver from the hotel for 100 dinars. We took several taxis a day, its just the common way of transport. We never payed more than 15 dinars (ok, once we payed like 30, but the driver was driving us from out of the town to the medina, back to the outskirts, then across the town to halk al wadi and then more or less to Berger des Lacs; lets say it was a private driver for half a day and we were a lot of people). Never ever accept to pay more than what is shown in the machine! If they tell you it does not work, take another taxi or take it anyway but dont pay! You can always take a taxi and ask to stop near a police station or any police - they will help you not to pay too much. Sorry to say that, but what the woman in the hotel told a client of the hotel was awful, completely wrong and just bad!
7.5 Good
Pros: Great location, helpful and friendly staff
Cons: There was zero privacy in the room (bathroom didn’t have a door, rather a curtain). Nice for couples, not friends).
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful historic place. Very peaceful. With private hammam. Personel was cery kind and helpful. Breakfast were very big and tasty (not buffet).
Cons: Major issue if you stay for relax: no public space to chill out. I saw 2 beautiful courtyards and both lacked even a single place to sit. So if you want to stay and relax, it must be your room. Dinner price advertised/promised at booking com is in fact higher. Massage in hammam is not worth taking - very delicate and your muscles are not really worked on.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect Location!! Perfect SERVICE !!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and real nice folks
Cons: Not a proper standup shower in my room
7.0 Good
Pros: Breakfast was excellent. The Palace is very beautiful.
Cons: The rooms were lovely but as we were travelling with a toddler, they were a bit uncomfortable, meaning there were many hazards for a toddler. Also going around the hotel with a pram was very difficult as no lift or ramp to push the pram around. Not suitable for families with young children or wheelchair users. I understand this is due to the fact that it's an historical building, but I think they should invest in some wheelchair friendly facilities. I wouldn't have noticed these things before having a child, but now it is very important for us, so maybe next time I will be choosing more carefully. Other than that, we really enjoyed the hotel and the food was amazing too.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff is amazing! They are very helpfull and give you great tips for your travels. The place is very beautiful with Tunisian decors and there’s an amazing breakfast in the morning.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location and staff were great.
Cons: Common bathrooms don’t allow for privacy.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The room I had was GORGEOUS and HUGE. I had a hand-carved arch above the couch and hand-painted tiles all around the beds. The most unique and beautiful sleeping arrangement I've had. My friend got slightly less lucky as hers was plainer but both rooms were clean and in good order.
Cons: I would have loved to have had non-instant coffee in the morning but the older couple that served breakfast were so sweet that and friendly that I wasn't THAT bothered by it. What did suck was that the little rooms where the toilets were located were so small that I could only sit down with my knees raised. I'm tall though, so that's not a problem most will run into.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We were a family of 4 and initially wanted to stay for 1 night and ended up extending another 2 nights. Very welcoming atmosphere, nicely decorated rooms and super polite and friendly staff. Shout out to Yusef the receptionist for his sense of humour and his friendliness!
Cons: We encountered a few friendly but frightening cockroaches lol.
7.5 Good
Pros: The beds need to cleaned or renewed.
7.5 Good
Pros: it is locatted in the narrow streets of medina and a bit far from the heart, 10 min walk. cleanness, staff were good. price was ok for the supply.
Cons: a bir far from heart. my room didnt have air conditioner but only a fan, so it was not an extremely comfort sleep.
5.8 Okay
Pros: nice decoration.
Cons: our room (suite) was noisy. Next to kitchen (thin walls), so preparation for breakfast wake us up. Maybe 2nd loor rooms are better. Breakfast is not too good. In Moroccan riads it is great thing, here not.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff, reception recommended me to try great local dish in small resto. Located in the center of medina, beautiful building with clean rooms and shared bathrooms.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I HIGHLY recommend Dar Ya for anyone traveling to Tunis. The staff was very helpful and nice, offering extra delicious peaches after each breakfast and chatting regularly. If you would like to experience true Tunisian hospitability, I think you are at the right address. You can easily reach the city center with a less than 10 minutes walk, passing through the historical center Medina, the breakfast food is very nice, the bathrooms were clean and smelling fresh all the time and the inside decoration of the hotel and the rooms was truly authentic. They also offer shuttles to and from the airport for 10 euros. Five stars!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: architecture location
Cons: No towels.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really authentic in the heart of sidi bou said
6.3 Good
Pros: The staff were very nice, showing us the room, asking us preference for breakfast. the breakfast was very nice as well. the interior design of the hostel is very arty and cozy, the rooftop has a nice view.
Cons: The room is small and simply equipped. Maybe it's because of the rain but there were so many mosquitoes in the room and nothing to prevent them. The sink smelled bad which was disturbing as it was right in the entrance of the room. The windows face directly to a cemetery and at night there are dogs barking a lot until 2am in the night. Overall the room is not worth the price even in France.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was excellent! The property was amazing and the staff super kind. Loved the rooms it felt like home. Will definitely come back for a longer stay.
7.0 Good
Pros: Nice location and breakfast.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff were outstanding and very helpful. Special thanks to Salwa and Aziza. There were very friendly and gave a lot of information about the city history and places
Cons: Very clean and room was cozy
5.8 Okay
Pros: The authentic feel of an Arabian courtyard house was obvious. The place is run by a family and the ladies are lovely. The room with our view is lovely - we stayed in Mouna and so we had a window with a tree and the med sea. However, any of the other rooms would only have a view of the graveyard or no window at all if on the ground floor.
Cons: They advertised as having a pool. There is not a pool. It is a small area with water where you could sit and be submerged from knee down for two persons max. The “pool” was not cleaned with bird poop everywhere.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice staff, location and breakfast
Cons: Cemetery view and room not soundproofed
8.3 Excellent
Pros: This is an interesting authentic house with nice roof terrace, but the basin pool is very very small. The house is located almost in the center - the room is very small but cosy. The staff is very friendly but almost do not speek English - only French
Cons: Location is by the cemetery (( This house is not so easy to find and to get in ))
7.5 Good
Pros: Lovely rooftop swimming pool, good WiFi
Cons: We paid 120 per night for three nights, with views of the graveyard (!) where a fresh grave was being dug on one of the mornings. Family of ours rented a 5 bedroom, stunningly decorated house, literally next door with indoor people and beach theme throughout for 1000 euro's for the whole week. I feel like we've been shafted with the price we paid and what we got in return

9.5 Excellent
Pros: very pretty and charming hotel; very serene atmosphere; great for a romantic vacation
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Recomnded beautiful place to sty
5.5 Okay
Pros: Centrally located and fairly comfortable. The breakfast was nice. The hotel itself is a cute old house, with nice parts for chilling.
Cons: If you're traveling alone, then you may want to avoid staying here. The area is not safe and (especially for female travellers) walking in the medina after 6-7pm is not advisable. The staff should have warned me of this, which they didn't. Also, most restaurants nearby close by 8pm so if your flight arrives late, forget about dinner. Overall, the staff was polite but not providing any helpful guidance or information. A mediocre experience.
5.5 Okay
Pros: The building itself is very nice.
Cons: This place is very expensive for Tunisian prices and it has nothing special at all. Service was very poor. My review is based value wise. If this hotel was twice less expensive then it would be a totally ok place but it’s definitely overpriced.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The design and decoration are amazing; a mix of authentic and modern. The rooms are extremely comfortable. Very good bathroom, warm showers. Very good location and selection of restaurant on the surrounding area.
Cons: The breakfast is good, but could be better. Just coffee or tea, bread, yogurt and eggs. There's no orange juice or cold cuts.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The air con of the room I booked didn’t work and the sofa was dirty. Then the staff here upgraded me into a very nice room which was great! The staff here was quite helpful and nice. Plus the location is great. In general I’m satisfied!
Cons: Breakfast should have more options.
4.3 Okay
Pros: I was expected to be amazed, I wasn't at all. Nothing really stands out.
Cons: To start with, they never replied to my emails and messages before we arrived. Our room was on the ground floor, quite dark and damp, also quite cold, and not too clean. The receptionist wanted us to pay cash, because the card terminal was broken. Miraculously, the card terminal was working the next day... The neighborhood is not very nice even though it's in the middle of the medina. Facilities around are quite poor, we had to go downtown to get some food on a Sunday evening because everything was closed nearby.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Had send a couple of emails requesting specific services through booking and never got a response.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Design of the hotel and rooms are cozy and rooms are quite big and comfortable :)
Cons: it was a bit cold in february

Pros: Just a '' small'' problem at check-in.... The dates change wasn't sent BY Booking, so when we arrived, no room available anymore, because of a considered no show the day before... Pros: Myself and my wife stayed at this hotel for one evening and in just one day we are so pleased with this hotel. We felt very welcomed when entering the hotel. The staff were very professional and went out of their way to to give us a great experience. Our room was very clean and comfortable, with a great modern look. The hotel is in the middle of the centre so close to everything, fantastic location. The breakfast experience was very relaxing, the croissants were delicious and the quality of the breakfast was great. Our flight is in the evening and so the hotel allowed us to kindly stay an extra two hours in our room and will look after our bags while we go out in the centre. We are extremely pleased with this hotel, quality services and location for your money. We would defiantly stay here again. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel for children but for business, solo and couples I would. Thank you for our stay.

Pros: Location
Cons: I have booked bed and breakfast for 2 persons but they charge me again the breakfast
5.5 Okay
Pros: Breakfast was a modest buffet, but restaurant staff were friendly and helpful.
Cons: 35 dinars each for airport shuttle. It was a small car, even though we told them in advance 3 adults with 3 cases and a wheelchair. This meant we were forced to carry heavy luggage on our laps too. Novotel airport shuttles in other countries are both large, confortable and complimentary. The service should be the same in Tunis too. Also the chair in the room was broken and nearly caused an injury- the hotel staff didn’t seem to care.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All staff, including housekeeping & security.
Cons: There was water leakage from toilet sheet,I will not say anything. You can understand.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Room was very comfortable, nice air conditioning, nearly all staff were very friendly and helpful. Quick and efficient room service.
Cons: Few, if any, vegetarian options for room service. It took me over 20 minutes to check out, making me slightly late for my trip to the airport. I think the staff member did not appreciate the importance of moving faster to get people checked out. Only a few English channels on the TV.

Pros: A pleasant stay. The room was clean, comfy, with a good shower and lots of hot water.
Cons: The bar is a bit dingy.

Pros: Breakfast was pleasant with good choice of local fare served in a nice breakfast room. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. The staff was very helpful and cordial.
Cons: I missed a hair dryer in the bathroom and there was no plug for the bath. As the climate is warm, I think it would have been good to have a few bottles of water, either complimentary or in the minibar. The Wifi was regularly off.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing at all
Cons: Sorry to say it was very bad experience in this hotel , very dirty room and very old and not clean towels , food was so bad and in the end staff was so unhelpful and didn't let us leave the hotel without paying all the days charges even we stay only the one night because we can't stay more there
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The service was excellent - everyone on staff was very nice and helpful. The location is convenient if you are going to be going to meetings in other parts of town. The building is beautiful, has a lot of potential. The food for dinner is actually good, if you are tired and don't want to leave the hotel.
Cons: Breakfast could be better. Lacked a level of freshness. Exact same thing every day. Also, there are no non-smoking rooms, but I heard it is a standard in Tunis.
7.0 Good
Pros: The location. Excellent housekeeping staff!
Cons: I was travelling from Istanbul for work. The room was booked for two people because my Tunisian colleague (another male) was supposed to come stay with me. As he was checking in, they made us so uncomfortable asking all weirdest questions such as how we knew each other, what were we going to do in the room, what was the purpose of our visit, how long had we known each other etc. Later when I wasn't around the receptionist interrogated my Tunisian colleague with even more questions. I had explicitly made the property aware of the names of two guests in advance. And I had told them that he was going to arrive at a specific time. Then we found discovered a hotel policy - heterosexual couples had to present a marriage certificate to prove they were married. So, please be aware of this guys. On day one the breakfast was okay, on day two when we arrived there was nothing for us to eat. Only a few pieces of bread, yogurt and marmalade. Mind you it was only at 8:45. The breakfast is served from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Food in general was not very good.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: breakfast is varied and lovely, serving traditional items and crepes :-) Our room was big, spacious and always clean. The balcony was overlooking a side-street which was very dirty. (but that is not in control of the hotel management). We loved the staff as they were very helpful in suggesting what activities to do and places to visit. Location is superb and the area is safe too.
Cons: Being a 4-star hotel, there weren't many facilities like an indoor/outdoor pool, a nice terrace with a view or a backyard garden. We would have loved to enjoy relaxing time at such facilities.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I will say very very nice everything.
Cons: Nothing
6.3 Good
Pros: Breakfast was excellent and the staff was helpful and all spoke English. Beautiful old building in the center of Tunis near the historic Medina. I must say that the front dest staffers were absolutely the best. Helpful, friendly and speaking perfect English/French and Arabic interchangeably. They arranged extra nights stay, they called taxis and gave quality information on places to see and visit in and around Tunis. If you are a smoker and you want to be in the heart of Tunis, this is a great hotel for you.
Cons: Cigarette smoke everywhere, even in the so called non smoking areas. In the restaurant there would be three people smoking at the table next to you during breakfast or dinner. The bar was so smokey that I could not even stay in there more than one minute. Even the outside patio was layered in cigarette smoke. If I moved to another table away from the smoker, another smoker would sit down next to me and light up. In the lobby there was a "non smoking" area but it too had smoke coming through from the restaurant and bar, just a few steps away. One evening the smoke was so bad in the dining room, I asked to have my meal taken in the lobby "no smoking" area. The Restaurant manager was confused as to why but agreed "this one time" to allow me to eat there. People smoked on the front entryway steps leading into the hotel thinking they were outside, but the smoke just blew right in to the lobby. This was a general problem throughout Tunis.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is in a good place, the room is comfortable and the staff could help you all the time.
Cons: The breakfast could be better.
