Nice location and great shower
As I was leaving the desk after checking into the hotel, the desk person (young woman) asked “Oh, do you need a parking pass?” Of course I did, since I am driving a car??? She handed me a pink slip to place in my car...okay, the next day I was charged 10.00 in addition to my rather expensive room rate. I think this was an inappropriate way to do this. I should have been made aware of this charge when given the slip of paper. There were assigned parking spots in front of each room...why do you charge for parking? I was told there was free coffee for us in the room/cafe next to the registration desk...but only between 7 and 8 am. I was told twice we could only have 2 cups of free coffee. Did I look like a person who would drink too much of their coffee? I was not going to be up before 8am anyway. Next, the room was very warm and stuffy when we entered. I turned the thermostat off of heat and to cool. The room stayed between 72 and 76 degrees all night. I called the front desk and they sent a maintenance man to check the thermostat (very nice young man). He tried, but nothing helped. He could not check it out on the roof at night...understandable. It was a warm and uncomfortable night. Last, but not least, the mattress was very saggy and kept pushing us to the center of the bed. Wow, we were glad to get out of there! This was our first stay in a Graduate Inn...never heard of them before. It will be our last stay, too. The surprise parking fee took the cake!...and compelled me to review and mention the other unpleasant happenings. I hope the air conditioning works for the next visitor in room 303...warmer weather is coming. Bottom line, we felt taken advantage of and rather abused. I still don’t understand the stressing of ONLY 2 coffees?
The decor was really unique, great location!
The rooms smelled of mildew.
The rooms smelled like mold. I asked to be moved to another room but it smelled of mold as well.
The room is welcoming.
The food, virtually everything about the food service (speed, quality, variety) was awful. The walls are so thin we could hear our neighboring guests say and do everything.
The vibe of the Graduate Athens is awesome. It's eclectic and fun and is located in a great location. It's a couple of blocks from "downtown." The staff are very friendly and helpful. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are clean and it's a great place to stay in Athens. It's my go-to when I'm visiting my daughter at UGA.
The doors could have better seals. I could see daylight around the edges of our door. I had to pay for parking which I've never had to do before. I'm not sure if the difference is that normally I book directly with the Graduate. Just be forewarned that if you book through booking.com, they charge $10 per night for parking.
Athens, Georgia is famous for a few things: Georgia Bulldog football, music, and food. This town has everything travelers need when visiting a popular college town. The hotels here are great too. The Graduate Athens has everything that its guests need. It is historic and charming, and it is located in the Foundry Building at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is a very short walk to the University of Georgia campus and features an outdoor pool, fitness center, spa, and on-site dining.
The guest rooms here have flat-screen television, triple sheeting on the beds, WiFi, iron, cooler, coffeemaker, Malin+Goetz toiletries, and USB charging station. The on-site dining that guests can enjoy is at The Foundry and Iron Works Coffee.
Athens has quite a lot to do for guests who stay at the Graduate hotel. They can check out a show at the Georgia Theatre, Cine, Cheeky Peach, Wuxtry Records, Agora Vintage, White Tiger Gourmet, The Old Pal, and Jittery Joe’s. There is a lot of shopping in the area and guests of the hotel will get a taste of college life when they walk down the streets of the downtown Athens area.
Booking a room here can be tricky because of the peak times of the year. The staff will be able to educate guests of the hotel about the busier times of the year for them and help them to book their room early in case of any college happenings. The staff will be able to answer all of the guest's questions to make this a fantastic visit!
