I hadn't realized that if you choose whatever the least expensive car available is--a 'mystery car,' rental companies now reserve electric vehicles for that option. I was relieved Agent Romy offered me a hybrid instead. Although it seemed very peculiar to start a car that had no sound, I'm not sure I understand how I would have been expected to charge an all-electric vehicle for the time I rented the car. Honestly, an electric vehicle for rent is not a viable option for most people.

Don't penny Pinch on a vehicle when you have a long trip ahead of you. Comfort far outweighs gas milage.

I lived in St. Augustine for nearly 11 years. Learning the alternate routes saves time and anxiety on heavy traffic holiday weekends.

With car rentals in St. Augustine, it’s easy to go anywhere you need to both within the city and the larger region. While the town does have basic public transportation, St. Augustine car rentals remain one of the easiest ways to move between neighborhoods. Having your own vehicle will also make it simple for you to go to places that are a bit further from downtown St. Augustine, such as Fort Mose Historic State Park, which is around a 15min drive away. There is also the Davenport Park, which is approximately a 12min drive from the city center.
One convenient and efficient place to secure St. Augustine car rentals is the Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), located about an hour north of St. Augustine. Rental car counters can be found on the Lower Level of this single-terminal airport, next to the baggage claim. Agencies at JAX include Avis, Enterprise, Hertz, Budget, Thrifty, Dollar, Alamo, and National. You can collect and drop off your rental vehicle on the first floor of the parking garage next to the terminal.
If you’ll be flying into the area, picking up car rentals in St. Augustine directly from Northeast Florida Regional Airport (UST) can be a convenient choice. Northeast Florida Regional Airport hosts several car rental companies on-site, and their offices can be found near baggage claim in the main terminal. Some of the companies that can be found here include Avis, Hertz, and Enterprise.
When you opt for cheap car rentals in St. Augustine, you have the freedom to explore Florida's beaches and the great outdoors at the Osceola Wildlife Management Area, less than 2 hours to the northwest. You can take a 45-minute drive to Jacksonville, rated by Forbes as the second-best city in Florida. St. Augustine car rentals can also get you to Daytona Beach in an hour, where you can enjoy sun, sand, and world-famous auto-racing.
When driving car rentals in St. Augustine, it’s important that you read up on local driving laws and tips so you can operate your vehicle as responsibly and safely as possible. Downtown St. Augustine is quite busy and has many pedestrians, so drive with extra caution when you are in this area. In the state of Florida, there is a mandatory child restraint law for passengers under 16 years of age. Whenever you are using your windshield wipers, make sure that you have your headlights on as well.
In Florida, children five years old and younger must be restrained in a federally approved child restraint device. If you need to add on a child, infant, or booster seat to your St. Augustine car rental, make sure that you mention this when you make your vehicle reservation. Cheap car rentals in St. Augustine often have a certain number of car seats available, and if you wait until you pick up your rental to mention that you need a car seat, there may not be any available for your use.
To avoid getting caught in a traffic jam, try not to drive during rush hour, which usually falls between the hours of 7:00 and 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. There are some roads that are known for having a particular amount of traffic, and these include Coquina Boulevard and A Street. Pay extra caution when driving in the rain, as the roads tend to be more slick and dangerous during these conditions.

Supplier choice

Agent Romy at location V8Z was exceptionally helpful. He was patient enough to educate me on my first experience with a hybrid vehicle and again when I had to extend my rental. I needed a vehicle while waiting for a new engine in my own car--a very stressful situation. Romy made it much easier for me. Thank you. I work for a car repair shop; I'll be referring anyone who needs a rental to you.
