Very easy to drive in Tromso, lots of roundabouts and as it’s snowy, always look out for people crossing the road as even if not on a zebra crossing you will be expected to slow down far in advance.

Many tourists visit Tromso to see the spectacular Northern Lights. Other activities you can enjoy here include whale watching, reindeer sledding, and touring the Polar Museum. Many attractions are on the outskirts of Tromso and not in the heart of the city, so you’ll need a car to get there. Additionally, Norway is known for its scenic highways and roads, so you’ll enjoy your trip more if you rent a car.
Tromso Airport serves the Northern region of Norway. It is also the largest airport in Norway and offers numerous domestic and international flights. When flying into this airport, you’ll have access to duty-free shops, restaurants, and bars. For added convenience, there are also several rental car agencies located right inside the terminal building.
With their tolls, most of the roads around Tromso are in excellent condition. Note that when driving anywhere in Norway, you must keep your low beamed lights on at all times for safety. Tromso is also a pedestrian friendly town, so be prepared to stop or slow down to allow pedestrians to cross at corners giving them the right of way.
There is really no rush hour traffic to be concerned about in Tromso. Inclement weather during the long winter season, however, can cause traffic backups and slow downs, so give yourself ample time for travel and drive cautiously. You’ll also want to make sure that you have an ice scraper, brush and a blanket in your rental car in case of emergency.

Passenger Van

The staff at Tromso Airport was great. However, while travelling to Tromso by bus, we had an accident and I contacted Alamo's online chat for cancellation, because we won't be able to reach Tromso on time and we won't be able to use the car as much as we would like to. The person at the chat told me that the booking is cancelled, but we didn't receive any notification regarding cancellation. And we were able to check the car's readiness next day and the car was waiting for pickup as stated on the instructions, this is why we picked up the car 1 day later. Even so, we paid complete booking cost, and 1 day is paid for nothing. If possible, we would like to receive a refund for 1 day, because we didn't use the car. If required, we can send the pictures and videos of the accident we have been through to prove.

Pickup took almost 90 minutes because a person in front of us was having issues and held up the line for at least 70 minutes (I'm not sure when they actually arrived) and the agent wouldn't assist other people. Car return area was not clearly marked like other rental services, and was not communicated to us. Office was closed on the day we returned the car.

Hello, dear customer support, I am writting to you hoping to resolve an issue with my recent booking with Hertz in Tromso Norway. When I was on the way to Tromso, my personal belongings were stolen along with my drivers license and credit card, which I used to book a car (I’ve already reported the issue to the local police and I am waiting for an official statement). When I arrived to pick up car and explain the situation, your norweigen collegues managed to change a driver and attempted to chrage another credit card but due to a technical issue with their system (this is what they claimed happened), we were unable to pick up our car. Subsequently the reservation were cancel as a no show and we were told to report the issue directly with your customer support. I would like to kindly ask you for a refund as you are a benefactor of the payment (I am able to provide account statement, that shows Hertz.com as a recipient of the payment). Also I have written statement from your norweigen collegues aligning the issue, that I am able to provide as a screen shot or pdf as they recommended to acompany my claim with this statement to help resolve the issue. If you could, please, let me know, what the next steps are, that would be very helpfull. Thank you for your time and I appreciate your help. Kind regards Irina Kondratova

I rented a car on a snowy day in October, and was a bit worried about driving the 3 hours North on Rural highways. But the car we were given was a Suzuki hybrid equipped with excellent studded snow tires that performed very well on the snowy roads and got very good gas mileage.
